Not 99.99% that’s an overestimation. For instance fishers are considered hunters. Plus some tribes in Africa or in the tropical jungles depend on hunting for survival and their population is probably over a billion

Exactly most of the so called "educated people" wouldn't even survive a week without electricity. Western societys are sicker, weaker and sadly really dependent on a functioning system (medicine, food, social media...). Which isn't always a good thing. People should connect with nature more and learn hard skills that could help us if the lights suddenly turn off.

This reminds me so much of an older friend of mine. He did not complete the usual 12 years of schooling here in Alberta, as he had to go to work to support his parents, so he very much considers himself uneducated. I have a bachelor's degree, yet the math and engineering which he can do, learned on his own, is beyond me. I hope your hunter friend will hold his head high with what he can achieve, and he passes this knowledge along to others. Thank-you Q for supporting him!

Even this far away, In Southern California, we need people who can DO things to keep us living well. Farmers, plumbers, electricians, construction workers, "sanitation engineers", firefighters... all of these people work hard and create our society, most without advanced degrees. Looking down on someone who didn't sit inside hallowed halls of learning for years and years is foolish! ❤❤

And so much of what I do, professionally, is observe animals, think about them, put the pieces together in my head and learn from my elder scientists. I mean all this to say that so many people who live on the land, including gardeners and farmers and foresters and hunters, are learning the same things in the same ways that I am. The knowledge is the same quality.

As you stated your bee-yoo-tee-ful 😊 country has required hunters, such as your friend for it existence and success. Greenland would not be what it is today without him and others like him. Now that I’ve said that, would your friend be a better hunter with a higher education degree? Probably not. In fact people such as your friend are the people who help authors write books which are used to educate others. College is essentially a concentrated time of learning based on the experiences of others who have devoted their lives to a particular subject, like hunting in Arctic Environments 😉

As a Māori who comes from a strong culture of hunting, fishing and gathering, it just makes me laugh to think that the colonisers were so stupid and arrogant as to live like we've had academic degrees since we were living in caves.
Education is essential for us humans, but it's only very recently in our history that education has looked like a classroom and written papers. Your friend should know that he is highly educated in an ancient skill that will serve him and his community for the rest of his life. That's so incredibly special!
Not to mention, you need so much knowledge to be a hunter. You need to understand your geography; the habitats, behaviours, and routines of what you hunt; what season is best; how to identify good breeding stock that you should leave alone; how to fabricate and/or maintain your gear... SO much stuff.
I'm so happy that you're so proud of who you are and where you come from. It's everything your ancestors want and everything the colonisers didn't want. Arohanui from New Zealand ❤
