A big reason why Barky is so liked and respected in Finland is his humility. That's quite huge in Finland especially when it comes to our athletes and this dude definitely doesn't let the success get in his head and fully considers himself as a part of his team and doesn't care much about the individual accolades. A good example of this is how he had 2 goals in a game against the Devils this season, the Devils pulled their goalie, Barkov got the puck up the ice in a 2 on 1 rush with Huberdeau and he PASSED the puck to Huberdeau like "Nah, I'm good." Huberdeau then of course immediately passed the puck back to Barky and pointed at the goal "Shoot it!" but unfortunately it was too late and the buzzer went signaling the end of the game. Barkov wasn't bothered much by this since his team had won. streamable.com/gssab Here's a clip for anyone interested.
As a Canadian, I love what the Finns are doing with their development programs; they keep pumping out better players than before. Also, thanks for Laine ;)
Barkov is absolutely fantastic. Watched a ton of Florida games this year as a devils fan due to our dogfight towards the end of the season and he was the best player on the ice in nearly every game I watched. He reminds me a lot of his old linemate Jagr in the way he shields the puck in possession and his hands are top tier. This kid plays in any of the large markets and he’s one of the faces of the league. Considering his age I would honestly take him over any #1 center in the league not named McDavid if I’m beginning a rebuild.
Always enjoy when u give the panthers some love. I started liking Florida because of huberdeau and barkov has impressed me florida is a lot better than people give them credit for
King Of Finland yea that cuz thy are in Miami I live in Pensacola which is NW florida on the panhandle. We have an SPHL team and a lot of military people due to being near the US Naval academy it’s a city of 500k and we can sellout an 8000 seat arena for a minor league team 20+ times a year I think that they should just relocate here to to Jacksonville there’s a market for it and a higher percentage of northern transplants so there a much bigger and more passionate hockey fan base in north Florida plus Jacksonville is close to Atlanta so it would play to a lot of the former thrashers fans (yes they still exist I know many)
King Of Finland if u can’t tell I’ve thought a lot about it plus they wouldn’t even have to change their name. Jacksonville would prob make more since as it’s a larger area but I know we need a new arena here so a relocation team could be perfect. And they can still be the Florida Panthers it even the Pensacola panthers
Barkov is also an underestimated playmaker. He makes 30 goal scorers out of nobodys. This year it was Dadonov and last year it was Marchessault. People forget that Marchessault was a reject with total of 8 goals before they put him on Barkovs wing. Barky is a good guy to play with your young guys. He will help them to raise their game to next level.
I think a great mentor to the style the he plays is his old teammate Jagr. He was a big influence on him, and thats how he learned to be so strong on the puck. He was always good defensively and playing without it, but his ability to shield off guys from the puck he learned from Jagr. They have the same stance and everything. I love the way Barkov plays the game.
There are maybe 5 teams in the NHL who wouldn't trade their number 1 centre for Barkov. He's young, he produces offence and he's on a damn steal of a contract. And obviously he has all of the defensive responsibility of someone who has 10-plus years in the NHL.
When he got drafted 2nd overall, most of us were surprised he was taken ahead of Seth Jones and Drouin. Now we know why. Barkov is one of the best 2-way centers in the game now. I have tremendous respect for the type of game he plays which is strong and sound. He may not be flashy and dazzle you, but he's so smart, and such a reliable, sound player and his hockey sense is first rate. Tallon sure knows how to find them!
I played against Barkov when we were kids. I remember we lost like 20-0. He was strong with the puck even back then, you just couldn't take the puck away from him, felt like his stick was 4 meters long even as a kid.
I got humaliated by Laine when he was 13 and i was 18. It happened in koulukatu which is legendary rink in Tampere. Once i saw Sasha there practicing he was in finnish elite league allready so thats how i knew who he was .
Dude kinda carried my fantasy team through large parts of the year which made me pay more attention to him. He’s such a great all-around player. 10/10 would fantasy draft again.
Barkov is easily the best center of Finland, we are really missing him in the ongoing WHC. Great player, nice guy, well respected all around. If he ups one notch and plays 15 years, maybe he will be in the HHOF some day.
YES!! Thanks for highlighting my favorite player outside of Lightning. 😎 Us Finns sure do know what he's all about. He definitely is a textbook example of a true, humble workhorse and a silent leader. That's why he is so well thought of in Finland, because that is the type of leader and a team player that younger Finnish hockey players and fans want to idolize and identify with. I guess that applies to other nations as well. Wouldn't be even slightly surprised if he gets the captaincy nod sooner than later, of course after MacKenzie's reign is over. That is the point in which I guess he truly gets recognized by fans and critics elsewhere also.
As a Bruins fan, and as much as I love Bergeron, you are 100%correct that Barkov should have been nominated. It would be interesting to see a list of all the awards and your perceptions of this is who should win it out of the nominees, and who should actually win it out of the whole league. Keep up the great work!
30 other teams would love to have him on their first or second line. He is only getting better and I'm excited to see just how talented he truly is. We have not seen the best out of him yet.
Barkov is my favorite Panther player. He makes games exciting, he can pass, has an excellent shot, incredibly strong with his big body and responsible defensively. You're right, he will probably never score 40 goals. But a line mate of his, one day, might.
Your scouting report for him sounds exactly how I would describe Couturier haha. If that's the case, I absolutely understand how Florida fans feel about him not being considered, solid 2-way strong non-flashy guys don't get street cred in the league
I've read a lot of Florida stuff, them being one of my favorite teams, he learned a lot and I mean a lot from Jagr... Definitely thinking that he learned his puck protection from him
He could've easily had 45+ goals this season if he played a full 82 games. I'm proud of the player he's become and no longer known as "underrated" by the NHL
Barkov is amazing. He could score 120 points a season if he wasn't a defense-first player. He is only 23 years and has already played for 5 years in the NHL, I don't think he can get any better but if he stays healthy then next 7-10 years should be great.
Love Barkov. But also, i think it was a 65/35 for MacKinnon going #1 judging by Bob Mackenzie's scouting survey. i could be wrong though. great video. Barkov is amazing.
Do a career on Pat Lafontiae or one of the Sabres greats. Or Brian Gionta since he’s close to 600 points and did pretty good in his time with Boston this year.
Barkov is unreal. One of my very favourite players and I'm a Canucks fan, not a Panthers fan. I think you're wrong that this will be his best season. To me he's Kopitar, not Bergeron, and I could see him being as good or possibly even better than Kopitar.
Barkov's strong two way play is also similar to Kopitar but because he's been unable to stay healthy and prove himself in the playoffs it leaves him seen as not as good as the other star centers in the league.
Stumbled on this old video, you might have to ”eat” some of your words on this insight. ” he will never score 40 goals”. Had 35 Last year but you may still be right, hope not. ”Career year ” naah hit 96 points Last season and he is not looking as he is slowing down, besides Panthers finally look like a decent team. Easy in hindsight to be a besserwisser but he is fun to watch, hope he stays healthy and break 100 points next season. Keep up the great work.
I think Colorado made the right choice on Nathan McKinnon. Who am I kidding everyone agrees. That being said Barkov is a pretty good player and has been solid for Florida
And I'm not necessarily saying this season in particular but just one season I'd like to see backy get nominated for the selke. Even if he doesn't win it just acknowledge that he's a solid two way player.
Backstrom should get some selke consideration. One of the most underrated players in the nhl and his two way game is elite but he's overshadowed by ovi and now kuzy.
Barkov totally got screwed on the Selke nomination.
Agreed 100%
I hope they at least kissed him and took him to dinner.
Dude is so underrated, it's criminal
A big reason why Barky is so liked and respected in Finland is his humility. like the commentator said: wow
Barkov is a player we Finns can be proud of. Very humble and well mannered even though he's an NHL superstar.
As a Canadian, I love what the Finns are doing with their development programs; they keep pumping out better players than before. Also, thanks for Laine ;)

Robinhoodarch if I were a gm he’d be one of the core guys dependability and consistency are what I tend to like in players
"Next year if he can hit 30-35 goals, if he can hit 80-85 points..." Season 18-19 Barkov had 35 goals, 96 points. Barkov is a superstar undiscovered.
We need an updated video of this guy!
Always enjoy when u give the panthers some love. I started liking Florida because of huberdeau and barkov has impressed me florida is a lot better than people give them credit for
A little before my time but...Bob Gainey with more offensive punch?!
They are good indeed but their fans suck! Empty seats way too much.
King Of Finland yea that cuz thy are in Miami I live in Pensacola which is NW florida on the panhandle. TCY Oh okay. That relocation actually would make sense.
King Of Finland if u can’t tell I’ve thought a lot about it plus they wouldn’t even have to change their name. Dadonov isnt a nobody though.
I think ur short selling Marchessault
You make him sound like Tavares.
I always have enjoyed watching Barkov against the Lightning. He is a fantastic center and should absolutely be a finalist for the selke.
David Papais Is the next Jagr?
I only saw Barkov in the games against Vancouver. I was like "who is this guy?" He was a beast and absolutely dominated every shift.
Imagine if he was on a Canadian team he would have so much hype
2022 and i couldnt be any prouder to call him my favorite team's captain. He's really made believers out of south florida
There are maybe 5 teams in the NHL who wouldn't trade their number 1 centre for Barkov. He's young, he produces offence and he's on a damn steal of a contract. And obviously he has all of the defensive responsibility of someone who has 10-plus years in the NHL.
Kody LaVallee and probably 2 teams who wouldn’t give up their number 1 or 2
When he got drafted 2nd overall, most of us were surprised he was taken ahead of Seth Jones and Drouin. Now we know why. Barkov is one of the best 2-way centers in the game now. Congrats on moving up to 38k Subscribers.
one of my favorite players. loved watching him play

h13nr1 perkele
My team got humiliated by Barkovs team when I was 9 and he was 10. We lost that game 15-0. Barkov was giant already back then.

And look what happened ;)

I love Barkov. Dude has some sick hands
Barkov learned a lot from Jagr, and that really shows in his game, especially in puck protection.
30 other teams would love to have him on their first or second line. He is only getting better and I'm excited to see just how talented he truly is. We have not seen the best out of him yet.
Thanks for feeding me my hockey itch on these off days!
what is find fascinating is the length of his stick, and he still has the ability to be that strong on the puck. no words
Of course we love him here in Finland, one of the best young players from here. 😄
He is currently the best finnish hockey player and everybody who knows hockey, also knows it.
And then this year he had 96 points! He keeps getting better and better. One of the hardest working, most humble players in the league.
Barkov is my favorite Panther player. He makes games exciting, he can pass, has an excellent shot, incredibly strong with his big body and responsible defensively. You're right, he will probably never score 40 goals. But a line mate of his, one day, might.
Would love to see this video updated.
quite possibly the most underrated player in the league.
Your scouting report for him sounds exactly how I would describe Couturier haha. If that's the case, I absolutely understand how Florida fans feel about him not being considered, solid 2-way strong non-flashy guys don't get street cred in the league
this is what we love!
Give Barkov an award in your off-season THG awards show for being snubbed.
Barkov is a fantastic two way player with some nasty hands. always enjoy watching Barkov.
Barkov's a beast!
The longest game in AHL history is currently going on between the Lehigh Valley Phantoms & Charlotte Checkers
Sandman730 Who won? Let's go Flyers
Hard to believe those guys in fla are still so young. Seems like they've been around for forever
Do a video on your thoughts about Sebastian Aho! A special talent from a great country that has produced many great NHL players.
2 seasons later hes at 400 points wow. BARKOV!!! GO CATS!!!!
34 G 60 A with two games to go this season. He'll be a dominant force for years to come.
Since you mentioned Couturier coming out can you do this kind of thing with him
I've read a lot of Florida stuff, them being one of my favorite teams, he learned a lot and I mean a lot from Jagr... Definitely thinking that he learned his puck protection from him
He could've easily had 45+ goals this season if he played a full 82 games. I'm proud of the player he's become and no longer known as "underrated" by the NHL
I hate seeing great players get injured, the fun of watching them just gets taken away.

He really is the Datsyuk regen
Do a career on Pat Lafontiae or one of the Sabres greats. Or Brian Gionta since he’s close to 600 points and did pretty good in his time with Boston this year.
@TheHockeyGuy, does this one already have a "revisit"?
Thoughts on these type of players taking longer to develop/ appreciated?
He got nominated to the lady Byng, or Selke Light imo.
The way I remember it MacKinnon was the clear No. 1 pick that year followed by Drouin, not Jones.
Barkov is unreal. One of my very favourite players and I'm a Canucks fan, not a Panthers fan. I think you're wrong that this will be his best season. To me he's Kopitar, not Bergeron, and I could see him being as good or possibly even better than Kopitar.
The Barkovian One!
Do a video about Bobby Ryan he had a unique path to the NHL
The Mexicano Show so did Scott darling I saw him play here back when he was in the SPHL he had a unique path as well
Didn’t you already make a Barkov video just like this?
Year later full season, 35 goals, 96 points and Lady Byng
I’m here when barkov had 36 goals and 63 assists 2 seasons ago
Barkov's strong two way play is also similar to Kopitar but because he's been unable to stay healthy and prove himself in the playoffs it leaves him seen as not as good as the other star centers in the league.

Meh.
Look at Barkov now! Easily a top 10 player and scoring has come up.
I think Colorado made the right choice on Nathan McKinnon. Who am I kidding everyone agrees. That being said Barkov is a pretty good player and has been solid for Florida
Cristiano Euronaldo ya I’m glad they chose McKinnon even tho he may be better at many stuff I still prefer barkov
Best NHL card company?
Keon Guide probably upper deck
And I'm not necessarily saying this season in particular but just one season I'd like to see backy get nominated for the selke. Even if he doesn't win it just acknowledge that he's a solid two way player.
He might put in that 40 goals this season :D
Do jagr next
Underrated because of his team, but so injury prone so far :( if he can get over that he'll be a top 7 NHL center in few years IMO.
Backstrom should get some selke consideration. One of the most underrated players in the nhl and his two way game is elite but he's overshadowed by ovi and now kuzy.
Didn't you make this exact video not too long ago?
Oh yea a month ago.
Is it a reupload?
Don't think so. here it is ruclips.net/video/ut53b9fS_P0/видео.html
Is he more of a Bergeron or Datsyuk ?
His name might be actually Sasha and he goes by Alexander instead. I have known a few Sasha in the past.
Nah, he was named after his father Aleksandr Barkov and his full name is Aleksander Aleksandrovich Barkov.
Definitely doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Basically a poor man's Bergeron. But I'd still take MacKinnon over him.
🙂
The most under rated player in nhl! :/
this didnt age well in 2022
His best? I think 90 points next year.
Wanna update your feelings?
This video has not aged well
