You actually need to hear it on the alnum... from "Bye Bye Love" it transitions to "Moving In Stereo" and then to "All Mixed Up", which is one of my favorite Cars songs. That amazing experience of discovery as you unwrap the plastic from an album, carefully remove the disk from the sleeve, gently place it on the turntable, and then sit back to take a first listen -- Track 1 on Side 1 through Track 9 on Side 2 -- while you read the liner notes is one that is totally missed by the youth of today. I can remember spending hours with friends listening to and discussing each track -- air drumming/guitaring/keyboarding all the while. When this album came out, we didn't have video games or smart phones or anything like that... we had music, real music, and it was a blessing. 1978 was an amazing year for music... The Cars (The Cars), Parallel Lines by Blondie, Pieces of Eight by Styx, Who Are You by The Who, Double Vision by Foreigner, Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce, Jazz by Queen, Son of a Son of Sailor by Jimmy, Champagne Jame by ARS, Don't Look Back by Boston, Outlandos D'Amour by the Police, and many others... all lifelines that saved us from that "thing" called disco and kept us safe when urban cowboys started taking over the radios... until we were rescued by Pat Benatar, REM, and U2 (I'm actually looking through my cassette tape collection from back then as I write this). You know how you guys do the whole movie thing? Have you ever thought about doing an album thing? I am sure you would get a lot of folks providing lists of albums you need to react to as you listen from start to finish. Just a thought. Keep it up, we are loving your reactions... and we are still waiting for "Nightswimming", "Find the River", and "We All Go Back to Where We Belong" by REM... the latter being their last released single in 2011. And oh, for Female Fridays, we need "Hammer and a Nail" by Indigo Girls. You'll understand when you hear it and listen to the lyrics...
Joe Diffie, third rock from the sun. and John deer Green. Aerosmith, train kept a rollin REO Speedwagon, 157 riverside avenue, 1976 off the live album, You get what you play for. Led Zeppelin, Hotdog. Montrose, Rock Candy. Lynyrd Skynyrd, honky tonk night time man. All these are great for your channel, you will love them.
Actually, the ending of this song blends right into the next song, "Moving in Stereo." That song, in turn, blends into the final song on the album, called "All Mixed Up." One of the best three song sequences ever recorded, from one of the greatest debut albums of all time.
Love every song on this album, especially this one. It brings back memories of driving listening to this cassette tape, windows down and hair blowing in the wind. It never got old!! 😊
@@Chris.Davis.2 I think a lot of us would like to go back life seemed more simple and carefree could always find something to do even if it was simply flying frisbee listening to music in the park.
I'm so happy that I found your page. It's so great to hear people discover and fall in love with music. you two are a complete joy to watch. Keep up the great work
Weezer were influenced by the Cars! In fact, Ric ocasek produced three of their albums and when the cars were inducted into the rock and roll Hall of fame, they recruited weezer's bassist to play with them as Benjamin orr was no longer alive.
I love it when the tracks are mixed together. I have the CD that they include the demo versions of these songs and they are more raw and even more passionate than their debut album. What an absolute treat that Electra signed them and let them stand out from the line-up of artists on their roster.
I'm a straight up Hard rock and metal guy, but there are a handful of "non- hard rock" bands that I love and the Cars are one of them. Their first four albums are awesome; particularly their debut album. The album is literally a rock and roll masterpiece. RECOMMEND: Double Life/Shoo Be Doo/Candy-O (it's actually three different songs but they meld together on the Candy-O album).
I saw this band live, and the concert also included Nick Gilder as the warmup band. It was in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho in the early 80s. Speaking of which, check out "Hot Child in the City" by Nick Guilder. The Cars are an example of a band that is so highly engineered in the studio, that it is difficult to reproduce that sound live. That doesn't mean that it wasn't still an awesome concert. It just means that they are a bit technical for accurate reproduction in live performances. The Cars were much, much bigger and much more popular than RSR can even realize. The Talking Heads were not even in the same stratosphere when it came to radio play and popularity.
This was from their first album in 1978 Benjamin Orr sang lead vocal on this. This album went gold and the Cars were Rolling Stones pick for band of the year. They won a number of awards for the album. The songs "Just What I Needed", "My Best Friend's Girl", "Good Times Roll", "Bye Bye Love" and "You're All I've Got Tonight" all made the charts plus the rest of the songs on it all got radio air-play. I'm think Orr likely sang and wrote more than half their songs, like their biggest hit "Drive". The Cars ushered in those keyboard sounds that would become associated with new-wave, I think of them more as power-pop. Anyway the band was: Ric Ocasek - Rhythm guitar and vocals Benjamin Orr - Bass and vocals Elliot Easton - Lead Guitar and backing vocals Greg Hawkes - Keyboards, Saxophone and backing vocals David Robinson - Drums, percussions, synth drums and backing vocals
I love The Cars so much. As other posters have said, this is from their 1978 debut album. And it's as close to perfect as any first album any group or performer has ever come to. The Cars were way ahead of their time.
One of my favorite Cars album. There is not a bad song on here. Always liked David Robinsons drumming. Great band! RIP Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek. Thanks for all the great songs!
This album debut in 1978 if I remember right. I was to be a freshman in HS the following year. I will be 60 in May now and I still rock out w/this album while in the car. Its been one of my all-time favorites. It never gets old. Just better and better! Tracks 7 .. #Bye Bye Love ... Track 8 .. #Moving in Stereo and Track 9 .. #All Mixed Up .. the song melodies flow into one another and should actually be played and listened to as just one continuous song. 🤘😎🤘
The Cars were one of the pivotal bands that pioneered the way for New Wave 80's music, even though they started in the mid 70's. Blondie - particularly the album Parallel Lines, - was another major influence. Talking heads would be another one. On another subject, another artist you have let fall through the cracks, even though you have really liked what you have reacted to, is Melissa Etheridge. (Bring me some water, or Like the Way I do from her first album should be your next reaction to her. You have done more of her later stuff.) Rest in Peace, Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr.
The Cars first album was a revelation in music. So many artists mark that record as their inspiration for becoming musicians. You can listen to that whole album and not skip a track. And it still rocks today. RIP to Ric and Ben.
Great Band GreatMusicianship Was lucky enough to have seen them in Concert after their 2nd Album & then I realized they had 2 Lead Singers. Both equally wonderful vocals. The Cars 1st 2 album’s are basically greatest hits albums. So many wonderful memorable songs

OMG! you FINALLY got to this Cars song!! My favorite one of theirs--and one of my Top 5 Rock songs!!! This whole damn album....along with the Boston debut album...are two of the best first albums ever!
Benjamin Orr (RIP) was the singer on this and several other Cars hits. I like Ric(RIP) but I love Ben's vocals, he had a fantastic voice. They were such a tight band.
Remember that The Cars' first two albums came out in '78 and '79. At a time when 70's rock, disco, and R&B were king, there was no other band that sounded like The Cars, they were ground-breaking. I love Ric Ocasek, but the majority of my favorite Cars' songs are sung by Benjamin Orr. Please, please, please listen to "Candy-O" from them next, probably their most rockin' song.
Actually starting with Ritchie Valens and also The Kingsmen before The Kinks. They are more influenced by U.S. rock bands such as The Stooges, MC5 and the Velvet Underground, Garage Rock Bands. Garage Rock being pioneered in Detroit before spreading else where including the U.K.. Valens (1950's), The Kingsmen (1963) and MC5 (1963) were before The Kinks (1964). Love the cars! You should try Let’s Go and You’re Just What I Needed next. And as others have said Moving In Stereo is also a must. I can definitely see the resemblance with The Talking Heads.
This was one of the most popular bands from when I was in high school along with Journey, The Police, and Van Halen. You have done a lot of Cars but you still need to check out "Dangerous Type", "Let's Go", "Moving In Stereo", "Tonight She Comes", and "You're All I've Got Tonight". Although you've already heard "Moving In Stereo" when you watched "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" but considering the scene it played in you might have been a little distracted (At least Jay might have been).
Off topic. Planning my second trip to Disney World and wanted to just say, it always makes me think of your Disney reactions I saw awhile back. My kids r in their 30s but watching you and yours at the park was so fun. Thanks for sharing that with us.
This was an amazing and momentous album when it was released in 1978. Such an incredible debut album and not a bad song from opening track to final track. Please explore this for more songs to review. I also think Candy-O was highly underrated.
Everybody seems have a favorite Cars album. Mine is "Candy-O". It's starts off with a banger, "Let's Go" and hardly ever pauses. It almost needs to be played from beginning to end in one sitting, being as so many of the songs run right into the next. Like I have to have "Shoo Be Doo" play into the title track.
The great Benjamin Orzechowski aka Ben Orr fronted this song. Ben always nailed his songs, and he remains one of my all-time favorites. RIP Ben and RIP Ric.
That first album might as well be a greatest hits album because there is not one bad song on it.

@shyman99
All the songs except “I’m in Touch With Your World” and “Don’t’Cha Stop”, which are bangers, received major radio play.
For sure. Every. Damn. Song.
