Although this song expresses the singer's wish for the child's FUTURE ("May you ...), it relates, in my opinion, to all time. I know of a beautiful woman who turns 69 today (28 April 2024). When I consider the lyrical power of this song, I think of her in the PAST TENSE. She was once a child who has grown though time into the PRESENT and she has fulfilled all the wishes expressed in the song. I imagine an Angel singing this hauntingly beautiful piece over this child-woman's cradle all those years ago on this day in 1955. I sent her this song as part of my birthday greeting. She's one of the finest human beings I've been blessed to know.
