I was born in Buffalo in 1942. As a child, I played in the park and knew it quite well. The gallery, the museum, and the nearby teacher's college were my main sources of education. The area between the gallery and the museum was heavily forested and thick with underbrush. To a child, it felt like one of America's earliest frontiers.
What amazing memories of such a beautiful place! I know that area you are talking about between the gallery and museum. It's still pretty much the same. Delaware Park will always be one of my most special and favorite places to visit!!! Thank you so much for watching, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!!!

Grew up in that area in the 60's.....it was nice, use to ride our bikes around there all the time, and the zoo was free ! Moved away to the Tonwanda's in the 70's and eventually to Florida 27 years ago !

On a side note, we also would ride our bikes around the Buffalo State Hospital, and yes at that time it was fully operational. During nice days, you could see the patients up in the enclosed caged porches along the older buildings, sometimes they would even take the patients out for a walk....but while riding our bikes it wasn't long before the guards drove up and told you to "get out".
It's "Scajaquada", actually. The McKinley memorial is interesting to see since it is right in the middle of residential street. Very easy to just walk by if you're not looking for it. Hearing that lion roar was so cool, I was like a little kid when I heard it! 😁
Something to note about the caryatid porches on the Albright Knox Museum: they're painted! See how they are a gray color that doesn't match the stonework. That's because they are made from wood.

I had intended to go to the site of McKinley’s shooting the last time I was in Buffalo. How cool… Lion roaring in background!

The statues are carved stone. It's the pedestals that are wood. Sorry, I should have been more specific.@@UnkleHeavy
