MOTOR-mad Irvin Gordon entered the record books when his beloved Volvo clocked up more than THREE MILLION miles. And incredibly the 70-year-old's runaround - which he bought in 1966 - has NEVER broken down. The retired school teacher bought the coup for £2,675 after a three hour test drive with a friend. He averages 60,000 miles a year - but can do as many as 100,000 miles. Last October Irvin was awarded a Guinness World Record for his accomplishment.

Volvo should offer him another classic restored with all comodities he told
100%
"Driving is my drug of choice" Haha an awesome dude and a awesome car
This gent has bought over 150,000 gallons of fuel. OPEC should send him an award.
I would keep the car .... nobody needs a seat heating .... not even in cold Sweden ....they don't make this cars any more .... look a the stunning proportions .... such a beauty
His wife divorced him, he spent all his time in the Volvo, guess it was a nicer ride
If my math is right, it took this dude an average of 230.02283 miles a day to equal 3,040,000. because he got the car in 1966 and this video was made in 2014.
Finally saw this car on the road yesterday! So happy.
Volvo should buy it and put it in a museum.
I think they did.

Its like a broom lasting 10 years, its had handles and brush replaced 50 times.
Yeah, like Triggers broom from " Only Fools and horses!"..
3 million miles is roughly 120 times around the earth..
Its an 1800S means build in Sweden not Uk. Maybee thats why
Seems like the Music editor had a stroke again
157 oil changes in 3,000,000 miles? So you're telling me he only changes the oil every 19,000 miles?
I saw another of his videos. He said he actually changes the oil every 3500 miles.
thhall459 that would make more sense. That comes out to 857 oil changes
Justin Fincher The operative words on this were "has paid for". Apparently he stopped paying for oil changes sometime ago. Seems fair.
thhall459
Yep, so the narrator of this video must be mistaken.
The narrator and writer of the show are dummies who don’t know what an oil change is!!
Lol he must not be home often
A dollar a mile? Okay then, I'm selling my 2006 Dodge charger for 140,000. Who's interested? Lol
I will smoke you.
@@nofeeling8089 you dont own a car
My 2 ex wives have more miles on them each ; and it's from me .
Vintage Car Uber Drivers
cmon guys, lets make this a thing
uber doesnt allow old cars aadly
Makes me fell like the 202,000 miles on mine is pretty small
A dollar a mile? Ok Ok guys listen up I have a 2020 Honda Civic Sport Hatch for sale, $4,500 NO LOWBALLS. 4,500 miles, $4,500. FIRM.
Irv Gordon completed more than 52 lakhs Kms (< 3.2 million miles) in his Volvo P1800, this is exactly equivalent to 120 laps around the world 😍🔥🔥🔥
When Volvo go electric they will only do 3k then get scrapped.
Is it the oil or just regular maintenance with any brand oil? This is great opportunity for oil company to claim their oil is better to get to 3 million miles. Thx
I want to see it 5 million miles
the coolest volvo ever
6 years later is it at 4 Million?
That 1966 Volvo is a great car for Xbox One's Forza 6, if not Forza 7.
I read about this guy beloved Volvo. Keep driving it to your heart's content. Godspeed.

God I love this story. I’ve always changed my oil when I can’t see my oil dip stick level lines through the oil. I don’t go by my mileage never did. Over fifty years of driving never ever had a motor problem. Irv Gordan changed his oil every 3500 miles. That’s around the same time I can’t see my oil dip stick lines through the oil.
I hate to tell him but that carbon filled engine is a piece of s*** no one's going to pay 3 million for it the best he's going to get is 10 grand
After making this post I went on an estimate. Com typed in the car type and 3100000 miles and the resale value is $840
A dollar a mile? Well then in that case I'll sell my old Chrysler minivan for $240,897 of anyone's interested.
What does this guy do for a living? Where does he go? Does he just drive? Does he have a house?
He’s a retired school teacher
Omg imagine how many gas he had to buy!!!
He didn't say about the engine if it's original if I'm not mistaken
I'm certain in another video, it's still on its same engine.
Did he get a buyer yet?
Wonder how many motors the car has had during its life... Awesome story though, I love his attitude!
It has had two engine rebuilds.
I believe I read just 1 motor change plus beaucoup points, plus, and batteries.
10 Bucks for your car deal?
I took a Saab to 315,000 mi
Ricer84 D I saw a saab with 380.000km
haha :D what will i do with my 3 milions ? Im gonna buy house, nice car and still have some spare money ? Naah, im gonna buy old Volvo with milerage just over 3 milion miles ...:D:D This is just ridiculous ...
falatalane yeah I'd rather get a Bugatti Chiron and have 300,000 dollars left.
I bet the car is like triggers broom
Only UK resident will understand
Long Island represent!
He’s a retired school teacher
RIP Irv Gordon.
Awesome car
man wonder what oil he uses ?
+alexander baker I once read that he uses just the standard nonsynthetic oil (not sure if he uses 5w, 10w etc.) He just changes it often.
GeneralSirDouglasMcA oil is always cheaper than repairs
Yes. I always change mine around 3k miles (I try to never let it get past 4k).
How do you figure oil is cheaper than repairs? Do you realize that if you go 1 mil miles and change every 3000 miles then you change the oil 333 times and with the average cost of an oil
change, you're looking at around $13,500 in oil changes. In most cars you could have the engine rebuilt 4 times. My Vortec 5.7 has had the oil changed 3 times (using cheap non synthetic oil) and it's got 193,000mi. So I've saved over $2400 on NOT changing the oil, and it still runs great. I'll stick to saving my money on not doing unnecessary oil changes, and wasting the extra oil.
steve b Wow....to come on here and call this guy stupid is just beyond my understanding. He loves to drive. He doesn't care about the gas money and he obviously doesn't want to be a truck driver. This man seems like a nice person with a cool story and you choose to degrade him? I cannot imagine what happened in your life to make you such a negative person.
So how many engines?
Of course a Volvo
My car is only about 12 years old and people are already asking me to buy a new car. I love my “old” car! I’ll show them this video if they still insist on me buying a new one!
If he got his oil changed hundred and fifty-seven times, that means he changed his oil every 19000 miles about. That is a lot.
3 mil asking price because it has 3 mil miles? lol old man got the math backwards.
157 oil changes doesent sound right
20,000 miles between oil changes?...That dont add up
Get 30,000 miles without serious problems in a brand new Mercedes. I dare you!
If this car is a great one, this should be in Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7, if not Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Motorsport 8.
How much did did the 4 million mile Volvo sell for?
Ohhhh wait it’s 3 million dollars!
I guess my aries wagon 87 2 engines & trans s w .400000 mi won't get any awards .but it got 40mpg. i used to kid a neighbor w.a Prius 25k $ price my car was 250$. got same mpg.
to drive and drive so he spend his life driving around
I hope Acura is ready for me to do the same thing with my car lol...they better keep making parts for my car because unless mine gets totaled, I'm driving it until I literally can't anymore ;)
"Some people drink, some poeple do drugs." ... 😂🤣 sounds like he needs a bigger circle of friends ..
3000000 dollar?? why would you pay that much for that many miles?
thousands on gas? probably well over 200,000$
I thought Volvo's were notoriously unreliable
I'd just get climate control and cruise control fitted and keep it
August 21 2017: ~1,000 miles (~0.03%) to see total solar eclipse
Without forgetting all the tires he had to pay for
I am inspired now for my Hyundai ionic million mile
I saw a bmw r/6 toaster tank motorcycle with over 600k on it.
Yeah but volvos have kilometer odometers.
3 million miles on the same motor without a rebuild or?
Almost 5 Gigameters...
May he rest in peace
So sad he passed away
50 Years old
great cars
RIP Irv
RIP Irv
What was missing in the conversation was, how many times the engine or transmission was rebuilt or replaced. Anyone can get a million miles on a car with several engines and transmissions. How far did it go on the original engine and transmission is the real question.
slc9800gtx Original engine, rebuilt twice (once at 680k, once at the 2 million mark). Transmission has probably been rebuilt a few times, no idea.
ahhh the Japanese quality. Wait, are you telling me it's a Volvo?
How is his paint not rusted? Need answers
He said it’s been repainted couple of times. It originally came with enamel paint that doesn’t last. It was hit in the front by a truck backing into it and a wrecker backed into the rear end. He said they changed the paint and finally got the whole car looking right.
I have seen this car several times in person.
I once saw a car like this in Georgia and it looked like him driving it. I have no idea if it was though. (I saw it on a residential street; it wasn't on the highway).
It could have been me.....spent a lot of time in Atlana and surrounding areas.
maybe TATA motors might buy it Tata owns Volvo now
heydude76 Not entirely i think but i'm not sure
makes sense the heavy equipment and hi way tractors might still be Volvo? love the hi way tractors or big rigs soooo comfortable
Geely (of China) owns Volvo. Tata owns JLR (Jaguar Land Rover). Just an FYI.
heydude76 Geely owns Volvo and Tata owns Jaguar and Land Rover
i wounder how many cracks the unibody has aftr sutch a milage
None...and the car still makes cross country trips and never a problem.
I saw this man on another show. He admitted that the engine had a valve job along the way. Also, on RUclips he is in the studio with Castrol reps and claims he used Castrol GTX the cars entire life. I heard him answer on another interview when asked what oil he used in the engine he answered, "Can I say?", the interviewer said, go ahead. He answered Mobil. I do not believe this man one bit. He answers to whoever pays him the most. My assumption is that if the head had a valve job the engines been rebuilt too.
You'd be right. The mighty redblock has only been rebuilt twice: once at 680K and once at 2 million.
wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/18/irv-gordon-has-driven-nearly-3-million-miles-in-his-1966-volvo-1800s/
Rob.... have no idea where you got your information from but whatever.....nothing could be further from the truth. I have never metioned Mobil or any other brand of oil to anyone. I never said the engine just got a valve job only. This all sounds like a figment of someone's imagination.....such as I get free gasoline, service, parts, etc. etc.....all stories I have been hearing forever. All of which sounds reasonable to whomever is making up these stories but still of someone's imagination.
He must have been a traveling salesman back in the day. Who has time to drive 3 million miles for pure pleasure?
+Ozzstar He used to be a teacher; he had a lengthy commute to and from work. In his retirement, he just keeps driving long distances for fun.
Damn $4150 for the car, for 300 more he could have bought a 66 shelby gt350.

Is that Matt Farrah's million mile Lexus?
Quietbut_Deadly no it is Irv Gordon’s 3 million mile Volvo
I saw this video 3 years ago. Watching again in Feb. 2020. Whats happened to it, did he sell it, and what mileage did it end up with?
