    STORYLINE:
    Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said she had spoken to her Iranian counterpart, as the international community attempts to defuse escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
    At a news conference in Berlin alongside her Chilean counterpart Alberto van Klaveren Baerbock said she had spoken on the phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, calling on Iran and Israel to both "act responsibility and exercise restraint".
    "Diplomatic telephone lines are running hot to prevent a regional escalation in the Middle East. Nobody should add fuel to the fire now. No one can have any interest in a conflagration with completely unforeseeable consequences," she said.
    Germany is a staunch ally of Israel.
