      Thank you for your question! When votes are distributed equally, each candidate receives the same number of votes. However, if there are more candidates than votes, the votes are distributed proportionally. For example, if there are 5 votes and 3 candidates, each candidate would receive 1.5 votes.

    sir while voting in rajya sabha election are the preferences given to all candidates or only to the number of seats available?

      MLA will give preference according to no. Of candidates. For example, no. Of seats are 6 and no. Of candidates are 7 then the MLA will give 7 preferences. Also, MLA can decide if he has to give other preferences after his mandatory first preference.

      Formula = (Total votes polled/Total number of candidates to be elected +1)+1 = (200/4+1)+1 = (200/5)+1 = 40+1 = 41 .
