If you've been to Las Vegas, you've seen the streets named after the classic greats. There are streets named after Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and of course there's an Elvis Presley Boulevard. But less well known is that way out in the desert, there's another tribute to Elvis. Just past the little town of Blue Diamond, there's a dirt road that winds around in the desert in the Cottonwood Valley trail area. It's named Black Velvet Road, inspired by this song.
Wel i am from Belgium and i must say when this song was out somewhere in the 80 i have never understanding this song lyrics i thought she was singing about a Kung Fu kid that have a black belt and the new religion 🤔🤔now Su much later i hear this song now on the radio and with internet you tube is so blessed you can see the lyrics and my English is much beter i understanding this all a little bit beter but i think sche is singing the song over Elvis??i was a great fan when i was young so it would be a shame that i listen to that song with the wrong words 😮🙄😒,but also the new relegion wat was that meaning 🙄🤔🤔i know Elvis was a Christian i also and i love his gospel but that is not a new relegion so stil doubt about these lyric 🤔🤔, could you give me wat more information about this song then?
The first time I heard this haunting melody, I thought it was about Elvis whom I have loved since I was a child. By the time she got to the part where she says, "every word of every song he sang was for you,' I was certain. Every Elvis fan believes that to be the truth, including me! RIP, the King of our hearts. I have wondered if the title may have been inspired by the hair dye Elvis used. The name was Black Velvet! JMO.
That's not a theory, it's fact! It was inspired by a bus load of Elvis fans on their way to a vigil at Graceland, to mark the 10th anniversary of his passing. One of the lyrics specifically mentions 'love me tender'. So you're spot on!
This song was released when I was 17 yrs old. I'm now 51 and just learned two days ago its about Elvis. Someone made a tik tok of his younger absolutely gorgeous years with this song. Holy cow. New found love for Elvis❤❤
@@nikkilee3135 I had to look it up lol "The words "black velvet" are a multi-faceted reference that can be applied to Elvis in numerous ways. (1) The "Velvet Elvis" phenomenon of his likeness frequently being painted on black velvet. (2) The soulful and smooth "black" baritone sound of Elvis' voice and the many African American recording artists and singers he emulated to create his special brand of rock n' roll. (3) Black Velvet was the brand name of the hair dye Elvis used to give his normally light brown hair its distinctive black sheen. (4) Black Velvet Is also the name of a Canadian whiskey, referred to in the line "Black Velvet, if you please."
@@al3xkilgore the film missed out some very, very, how can I put this? "He married his 14 year old cousin", did I just hear that or did I hear that cos it happened?
At the time when this tune came out, I really thought they were talking about the liquor "Black Velvet!" Wow they were actually talking about "Elvis Ptesley, just a slight part of his life. Guess those lyrics can be unintelligible when your high? Glad I know now what the lyrics say and kudos to the Artist that wrote this tune and lyrics. Fortunately, I have had the honor to know this artist. He did his best to hide but long hair gave him away and I think he knows it now. But he is one heck of a guitarist.
@@TheNothing6 That was a good one. Seriously, her song “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” came out like in 1983; it was around four or five months before I entered the Army. I never knew what that song was about until years later when someone explained it was about vampires.
The bass line in this song is something I will always remember. I can remember listening to this song as a kid and I said it then. That bass line is popping
Never knew this Song was about Elvis. I just loved the tune and it was sexy. I did a Strip tease for My husband back when it came out all in Black Velvet attire and Black Velvet boots! Great Song to dance to.. 30+ years later, I learn what the Song is about. 😅 💃 🎶 ❤ 💋 ❤️🔥
Umm Are most the commentors not from the South? I think most Southern people know this song and who it is about ,, it still plays on our radio stations and our parents and even grandparents would play this song and reminess bout the good ole days lol
Hey, Michelle Gomperts, this song reminds me of when I had a crush on you in HS, but I had no idea how to step to you properly. Its been a long time, but I still remember the killer legs and ass on your frame!

Growing up listening to this haunting melody, it's only TODAY that I realised that the song is about Satan, note the repeating lyrics "a new religion that will bring you to your knees "

I just learned that last Sunday
Just leant that now from you 👍🏻👍🏻
Black Velvet & that little boys smile ....told me years ago who it was about ? .
When you are younger you listen to the music for the music and when you are older you listen to music for the lyrics ❤
U got that right
And I’m one of the older 😎
Me too ,lol❤
When you were younger you listen to the lyrics in the music without hearing the text. You simply understand...
Other way around man you gotta have a tuned ear to listen for the music lyrics are easy

I was today years old when i finally realized this song is about Elvis

“Black Velvet” was the color of his hair color in a bottle.
I thought she was talking about a hot boy wearing black velvet
If I’m not mistaken, this track was released in the summer of 1990. I thought it was Bonnie Tyler because of the girl’s raspy voice.
I bet it was nothing but a heartache to find out it wasn't Bonnie.. 🤣😂💔
