Thank you for this clear explanation. I got this Tri-Pack a month ago, together with Germantown from the same series. Haven't played it yet, only clipping the chits and drooling over those beautiful maps. So, for learning the rules: this video is very welcome!

@TMinusOne Thank you for the kind comment - let's hope I get it right and you enjoy the rest of the series! Seriously though, you'll love the game, it's great fun.

Only found your RUclips channel yesterday. My compliments. One of the best presentations I have come across. Watched three so far. Clear, precise, entertaining and very straight forward. No sniffing, no ummmms, errrr or loads of "you know." Could listen to you for hours. You even got my wife (!) hooked listenting in. Love the idea why you use the plexi-glass to write down notes while you go along. Even a great idea when not filming for the viewers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. My copy just came in. Rules are not bad but seeing it played out before diving in helps so much. 🙏🏻

Hi Rough. I love your video play-through series, and just finished this BotAR series for the second time. I just wanted to add a comment here early in the series regarding your use of the Solitaire Tactics Tables introduced at 23:00. I think that you frequently did an injustice to the Tactical question by answering the question, “Is withdrawal POSSIBLE?” instead of the question, “Is withdrawal PLAUSIBLE?” In the second paragraph of the instructions Joel Toppen wrote, “Do what you would do if you were the player using those units in a two player game. Example: would you consider using a withdraw chit? If so then choose by withdrawal plausible.“
I think this would have made some differences especially with lopsided battles were even-numbered charts (Withdrawal Not Plausible) would have been used instead.
Anyway, again I thank you for these wonderful play-throughs.

where on board game geek did you get the tactical cards for solitaire use?

    • @RoughSwordsmanWargamer
      @RoughSwordsmanWargamer  5 лет назад +1

Hi David, the actual tactics cards came with the game - if you mean the solitaire tactics table I use in the videos, I've now put a link for that in the description. Hope that helps and thanks for commenting.

one minor question-I did read somewhere that there is a counter in the game that has a Leader name spelled wrong on it, or spelled wrong in the Rule Book (at least differently). Is this well known, or effect game play in any way?

Hi Jeff, I can't remember but I wouldn't think it would affect game play.

Hi, I just bought the game and now testing the scenario. I can see you do not count the entrance hex A for movement. How so ? I can't find any mention in the rules where the entrance hex is a free movement... Thanks. As troops are coming from offboard, I would count 1MP to enter the map in A.

Hi Jack, thanks for the comment and I hope you are enjoying the game. In the Series Rules, Section 9.12 (page 5), says that placing units on their entry hex costs no MPs.

@@RoughSwordsmanWargamer Many thanks, I ran my first game, with a British victory. Excellent game. I am not convinced at this stage by the solo Tactics Matrix use which brings more a loss of time than a real interest and added value to the game. I am actually considering using dice to go quicker (using 2 Fate Dice which are + - blank faces, allowing -2 to +2 results). I'll play the Historical Eutaw Springs next. Guess other bigger battles will be a blast to play. Your videos were really useful to me and I could get into playing very quickly thanks to them.

Dash of Elan = GM’s Alcove. I think he changed his channel name.? Started doing the plexi writing thing. Helps tremendously, especially being new to a series. I put major terrain modifiers on the plexiglass as well.🤔

    Rough,
Regarding Joel Toppen’s Solitaire Tactics Table, what are your thoughts on the human player (vis a vis, me) selecting a valid/legal tactic and using the die roll to select the AI tactic only?
Love your work and this channel.
    Best,
    Ed in California

Hi Ed, that could work but I prefer to use the Solitaire Tactics Table. If you haven't got it email me (my email is in the video description) and I'll send you a PDF of it to print out.

Also I do not like how the artwork of the River Road is drawn right over some of the hex numbers of hexes it passes through. So be careful and look..:-)

Hi you all. Dean has been kind enough to send me the solitaire rules, the GMT link is dead. Before asking Dean i posted the same question on the GMT facebook group and it has been answered. So that's the link for the Joël Toppen solitaire rules for those interested. Thanks Dean and keep the good work .

The game artist should have at LEAST Included some sort of Art Work in the 'Captured, and Eliminated' boxes. E.g..(CAPTURED: An individual Soldier handcuffed with an Enemy holding him still from behind. ELIMINATED: Showing a few Dead & Bloodied Soldiers laying on the ground) That would enhanced the visuals quite alot. Instead it's just a couple of bland looking square boxes, that's the problem with some games
