In the US it’s said the best time to go to Costco to avoid crowds and craziness is between Tuesday and Thursday, arriving between 3 and 4 p.m. Saturdays and weekends in general are crazy here, too.
Loved your Costco video!! I am thinking that the signage was in English because they are an American company, maybe? Some of the prices were excellent and loved the different products from France. Paris is my husband and I favorite city!! I have never seen a Costco that busy except for here in Florida when the snowbirds arrive and stocking up for the winter. Love watching Jean expressions. Tomorrow we make our trip to Costco, cannot wait and always enjoy the hot dogs!
Good point, Costco is USA (Seattle) company. But... France has a French language regulation on products sold in France. I think it was 100% mandatory French language must be on labels and ads and whatever language creator has listed.. It has been decades since I got BA in French and covered French Academy rules (think Merriam Webster & word officials, centuries old).
We live in Houston, TX. Costco is very popular here. We were just on the Big Island of Hawaii and were surprised to learn that every island in Hawaii has a Costco. We went on a week day and it was amazingly crowded. The food court was outside and was quite busy. We went back on a Saturday, just for gasoline, and when we drove by the food court, it was jammed packed! Note: we used to be brand name ‘snobs’, but anything Kirkland brand is excellent! We even buy their Toilet paper, now.
YES OK ! I thought I was crazy because the amount of clips I cut of me saying over and over “this is chaos how are there so many people here” 😂 I was like maybe I’m crazy and this is normal haha
Maybe someone has already mentioned this but, if you have some freezer space ( I realize fridge/ freezers are sized differently there) you can portion things out ( like meat/ fish etc)and pop in freezer? Must be quite the temptation for you! Thanks for showing your Costco there!
I live alone, so I can’t justify a Costco membership. However, I like to stop there for lunch (on a weekday) once in a while. You don’t have to be a member to use the food court.
France doesn’t have Canada’s language laws. Stop signs say ‘stop’. In California, Costco is a surprisingly good source of French, Italian, Korean and Chinese products
You are so cute! I thought your reaction to Paris Costco was so funny 😂 As a US citizen and frequent Paris visitor, our curiosity got the best of us to compare what the difference would be if any. Of course being a US company the labels would be in English lol. The "French" products here have English labels too, so they probably wouldn't want the expense of relabeling everything. We always rent a car when we visit Paris because we choose to stay in the suburbs and having a car is more practical for our activities and travel needs, so we of course had to visit Costco there. We found it a little smaller than the Costcos in our area and it wasn't as busy because we went during the week. We were wondering how practical it would be for the French with much smaller places and fridges but for the suburban dwellers with more square footage and possibly 2nd freezers, it makes sense. It was not lost on us that consumerism is more of a US/N.American thing but apparently the appeal of Costco knows no bounds 😂 It was bittersweet to experience Costco in France but not everyone can have the charmed life of living in the city and frequenting farmers markets for their daily meals, so it's understandable to me that Costco would inevitably become a thing in France too 🤷🏽♀️ As an American I loved it tho. Your reaction was how I feel every time I shop at Costco so I totally get it 😁 btw, there used to be a delicious boulangerie not too far from the Costco out there, which is rare because the boulangeries outside the city are rarely as good as the ones in the city. Not sure if it's still there since our visits were precovid
Loved this video and reading all the comments. Thanks for taking us to Costco. It felt so like home in the US. Good news! They sell refrigerators at Costco and probably deliver them. You can then stock up on your perishables! ❤
I think all products are for the whole European market. It’s cheaper to sell european products to Europeans than shipping from the US, plus the norms and laws are different so you would need two different line of production anyway. They’re mainly labelled in English, but there should be small instructions in French or else it would illegal to sell here.
Merci, merci ! I live part time in USA and part time in Paris. Each time I am in Paris I am tempted to rent a car and go to costco. I will do it next time, my flat is 39m2 and there is no space for all those food deals ! But I rent is out on AIrBNB and it might be worth it for the paper towels, cleaning products and Toilet Paper! And the membership is cheaper that here in USA. Question, How long does it take to get there from Paris ? I drive here in California, but never have in Paris ! Thanks again Guys for the video ! If I got , it would be on a weekday for sure.
Oh totally ! The house / cleaning supplies is definitely worth it I think ! It took us about 40 minutes to get there and 1h to get home because of the traffic…. But if you do during the day on a week day I imagine it would be quicker !!
If you have Costco card in US, you may use it to enter any Costco in world. I am Americn and used my card in Canada. My friends went to Japan, Korea, Taiwan- used their USA Costco membership card in Asia with no issues.
The Costco in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico was packed both times we went. Checkout lines were the longest I’ve been in and many items were in Spanish (no surprise). There also was an up charge if you used a credit card vs paying cash.
I live not far from the Costco, lol, but I still have NEVER gone. When I lived in Korea I went at least once a year (there are more Costcos in Korea anyways, like one in each major city) mostly for turkey and frozen green beans for Thanksgiving because we couldn't find it on regular stores there. When we moved to France, me and my partner talked about getting a membership since we knew we'd be living close, but we decided not to because we realized all the things we'd normally get at Costco in Korea was available in regular supermarkets/hypermarches here in France. Plus we didn't have a car, still don't, and the bus to get there is slightly complicated.
Oh man ! Thats so weird ! Same in France, English is not the common language… it’s interesting how there’s no crackdown on anglophone companies in France or Puerto Rico… 🤔 I wonder why
I had no idea there were Costcos in Europe. This was such a wild trip. Thanks for taking us! From what you showed, it appears there was a lot more selection of cheeses, alcohol and pastries than the Costco in our area. I would go broke buying all the cheeses 😂
Actually there are only 2 Costcos in France. The first one opened in 2017. Buying in bulk is not as much in our culture because we have smaller homes and live nearer from foodstores. So we shop more often but in smaller quantities.
Will those lower prices drive the smaller family run grocery stores out of business? Then we all have to drive and spend most of the day shopping. Is it worth it?
Nope ☺️ like I said, jean and I do the vast majority of our bread/fruit/veg/meat/fish shopping from local organic shops as do most French people. Costco is great for big household stockups (toilet paper, dish soap, appliances) but I don’t see people sacrificing the quality of local produce
Im not at all surprised they sell French products. That was probably understood when they contracted to build and do business in France. They are making money and helping the French economy.
Hey Arielle et Jean, merci pour cet vlog. Re: jewelry in case, here in States they are real diamond jewelry items. You are free to try on jewelry under Costco staff supervision. Legit the staff will unlock case and take out item for customer(s) to try. Close friend was assigned the jewelry counter position when he worked at Costco during our uni days.
Its worth the car rental to go every few months to stock up & save the money at costco especially before the holidays you find good gifts there too. Was fun to see what was different at your costco compared to Canada & you get a cheap lunch. Our costco in toronto does not sell wine or booze maybe one day.
Lol good to know that lines at Costco are the same here in the States as it is in France! Can't go on the weekends. Gotta go during the week in the middle of the day.
I feel like they basically picked an entire CostCo up and transported it to Paris and changed minimal signage. My husband cooks a lot of French foods, however, he loves those ribs. Just ew but so funny! ;) The size of the brie is the size of Texas! Yes, the cheese area is EPIC!
Yep looks like Costco here in the states. But the cheese, bakery, prepared and some other foods are very French oriented. I really wanted to visit that Costco on my trip to France but thanks to you now I don’t have to! Oh, and don’t get too attached to the same items being there the next time you shop. That’s probably what happened to the ketchup chips. Thanks for an entertaining vlog!
Well, that was fun! I love going to Costco for some reason. You never know what cool thing you’ll find but you’d better snap it up right there and then because once it’s gone, it’s gone. They do have their staples though. I also have luck ordering online with free shipping. Perhaps you can do that in France. 🇫🇷
LCBO is always a ripoff for alcohol. Crown Royal is cheaper in the US than Canada. Massachusetts doesn't add sales tax to packaged liquor and is one of the reasons why so many buy booze in MA.
Thanks for taking us with you to Costco. We have one about 20 miles away (in US) but I have never been there. We also have Sam’s Club here much closer (owned by Walmart) so that is where I shop for stocking up on items. I hope we have that Canadian Maple Syrup here. I love it and am running low. We also have Aldi, a German company, not as big as Costco but you can fine some bargains there also. Shopping with you and Jean was so much fun but next time go during the week!❤
We need a Costco in Greece too! Food has become so expensive you're forced to search hours for better prices ! Can you believe that the cost of your food is cheaper in Finland (I'm finnish) than here in Crete (where the salaries are very low) although they produce most of the food here. I'm so angry about the fact that local super markets take advantage of the situation in the world instead of giving discounts to help the consumers ! the cost of living would be interesting to know in your shoes , how much do you spend a month in mandatory expenses?
Thank you for showing us a Costco in France! Was your Canadian Costco membership card not accepted in France? The experience is very similar to our American Costco. It's very strange to see some products from France with unilingual English labels, while the same products from France of the same brand sold in a Costco in Quebec all have bilingual French - English labels. It is really surprising that France does not have a law on compulsory signage in French.
This English-only labels is forbidden in France. IDK how Costco is able to get a pass, or maybe the DGCCRF (French commercial business regulatory administration) still hasn't catch on this infraction. But it's really puzzling unless it's related to the fact Costco clients need a card to buy products and accept this situation by contract when they subscribe.
Hi ! Just popping, found your video by chance and I think I know why everything is in English, or kinda. The thing is that it's came in France kinda late, and after that the public knew about costco by social media and stuff. We had almost the same concept, wich is Metro, a german branch of "grossiste" (sorry, don't know the name in english) but yeah, same concept of costco, but european and in France since the 70's. So, there are more Metro than Costco here I think, and to not have the same exact stuff in the two places, Costco probably sold stuff from the US. I think, not sure. Hope it's help !
I'm betting the french products are sold for export to the North America markets so the labels are in english. They just divert a small amount to the French costco. Relabing or buying french labels would be just added cost, which isn't how costco keeps prices low.
The Kraft Mac and Cheese, 18 count box for $18.99, so yeah, you're 5 box is very pricey. Very interesting on all the French products in English, and we have a lot of those products in the U.S.
So interesting that so many items had English point-of-sale material. I'm assuming a) France doesn't have the same strict langugage laws as Canada/Quebec and b) Costco must be importing the same goods meant for the U.S. market. Likewise, Costco is allowing French/European brands to distribute them products meant for foreign markets. The demand for "Club pack" format is also larger in other markets, after all.
Thank you so much for this video. I live in france metropolitaine for over 5 yeras now and did not know a Costco existed. Howver I do have some questions: Is the membership obligatory ? Can you get there in public transportation ? Do you think is worth shopping there? Thank you for in advance for responing to my long comment lol.
I love that they don’t use artificial colors! Jealous we have the same brands in the US and full of artificial ingredients especially for Childrens snacks and cereals it’s infuriating! 😠
Loved this video! I thought it strange as well for the writing on the products to be in English, especially when it says "Made in France". In the US we can't get liquor other than wine at our Costco.
Fantastic job on your Costco content! Your coverage is impressive with Costco France-it's like stepping into a world of its own. 🌍 I’m here in Osaka, where I uncover and highlight unique Costco finds amidst the vibrant pulse of the city. 🌆 I'd be honored if you joined me on this journey as a subscriber. 🙏 And I'm proud to count myself among your new subscribers too. 👍 Cheers to sharing great discoveries! 🥂
As a French guy it's kinda confusing to see products like clothes, food or electronics you can find in usual _hypermarchés_ in a _Brico Dépot_ (similar to US Home Depot) warehouse racks setting. Sinon, les vêtements Armor Lux coutent vraiment la peau du cul... preque 100€ pour un pull over fin c'est abusé.
Very nice tour of the only thing I have as a problem is always the 99 bit on any price. It’s really ridiculous. Please tell them to put round numbers. I was working for well. Disney Company for sometime and I always told them to takeoff the $.99 whatever just put round number and now they do it and people are happy they don’t feel that they are being taken as stupid people So once for just takeoff all the 99 on any price
Very odd for the labeling in English… since you at least have it bilingual in Qc. Since there is a lot of similar products, the bilingual packaging does exist!
Costco membership in the US is about 55euros ($60). The Kitchen Aid mixer was 319euros ($350) last time I checked. The fromage section chez vous is enormous! Some of the food prices you showed are lower than US. I’ve also never seen bread filled with Boursin. The Kraft Mac n cheese was pricey. I eat Annie’s Mac n Cheese for about 1.25 box. Did they mark the calories for each deli item like in the US? It always dissuades me from the pizza, etc. 😂 Any salsas?
The Boursin brioche apèro/cocktail item is from the European market. They tried to sell it state side during Winter holidays. I am a big Costco fan and tried to find it at my location. Staff was informed and lmk the 411.
Ohhh, how was the cake?? We've done several cake tastings for our wedding cake and none of the bakers know how to make a regular North American style cake, They can't even understand what I mean when I try to describe it. I've had to send photos and videos.
THIS COMMENT I feel so seen 😂 IT WAS TERRIBLE !! they did exactly what you are describing, they frenchified their cakes by doing a light cake and whipped cream icing 🥲 when I tell you I have never been so disappointed I truly have never been so disappointed 😭
@@Ariellelaparisienne 😂😂😂I too feel seen! It's so funny and surprising to me that what we consider the most basic dessert that anyone can make out of a box is something that the best bakers in the world can't even conceive of. When my fiancé was in the U.S. recently we bought literally a Sara Lee cake from the frozen aisle and he was like "wow....rien à voir" 😂. I'm totally bringing a box or two of Duncan Hines back with me this summer. P.S. The wedding cakes we tried were exactly how you described: the cake itself was almost like sponge cake, and kind of dry. And the frosting was either like butter or whipped cream, nothing in between.
Wait i need an explananation about whats going on at 18:34, you have to scan your cup to fill it?? And you can,t refill it?? It's illegal? That is WILD
Hy i realy liked your video. We are from Belgium, and i wonder if we can make a membership card and if we can pay with a regular european card. Or we need to have a dolar visa...can u please help
Very surprised about all the English…Here in Quebec, all is in French at Costco…due to our law about French being mandatory on products to be sold in Quebec…..
You are so radiantly beautiful yet you have that terrible condition that youve told us of but no one would know. It seems that every life has counter balances in it. I just find it poignant that, for all of us,we have some great advantage but also drawback in our lives. Sorry, must get back to the shopping......
Your trip to Costco is the smoking gun as to why people in the West are dying at much higher rates from heart disease and cancer than ever before . What was a skinny slice of cake for a very special occasion is now “let’s buy two of these huge cakes, loaded with sugar and red dye, just for now, repeat, repeat, repeat. It’s sad to think that two beautiful and smart people will be facing the agonies of cancer and heart disease. Costco is the complete antithesis of the best way to eat for humans and also the way the French eat. And where are you going to store all that perishable food? Not in one traditional French refrigerator, that’s for sure, so now you need to buy a freezer or upgrade the fridge. Hello, religion of consumption above all. I know you’re just doing this to highlight the stark difference between the way we live in North America to the traditional French way of life, right?
Fascinating video EXCEPT that the endless "boopety-boopety" NON-Background / NON-Music endless loop / CRAP "music track" made us stop watching. Who wants audio "Chinese water torture" in a RUclips video. SO totally unnecessary and so distracting. Lost two viewers (who have a GOOD PC sound system, which made the above even worse.),
The fruit loops colours are different because the dyes used in North America are banned in Europe. Go on a week day for smaller crowds.
They should be banned in the US too.
They are banned in Canadian cerials as well
In the US it’s said the best time to go to Costco to avoid crowds and craziness is between Tuesday and Thursday, arriving between 3 and 4 p.m.
Saturdays and weekends in general are crazy here, too.

I'm heading to Paris in a few weeks from Lyon, and was hoping to tie in a Costco trip - this video is perfect timing! Can't wait to see your haul!
I’ve never seen a Costco with so many people!!!
You guys are good sports!!
YES OK ! I thought I was crazy because the amount of clips I cut of me saying over and over “this is chaos how are there so many people here” 😂 I was like maybe I’m crazy and this is normal haha
Your not crazy 😆

That was a great tour of Cosco. Although I was outraged that you put ketchup on your hotdog. Lol.
Loved this video and reading all the comments. Thanks for taking us to Costco. It felt so like home in the US. Good news! They sell refrigerators at Costco and probably deliver them. You can then stock up on your perishables! ❤
I wish those French brands were in my middle of the USA Costco.

There's only 2 Costco in France so clearly not worth it to make specific packaging.
Merci, merci !

Costco. $500 later, and nothing for dinner was my experience.
A few days later I feel this 😂
lol. Don’t forget to get the huge $5 rotisserie chicken in the meat section. Boom dinner covered. 😂
The Costco in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico was packed both times we went. Checkout lines were the longest I’ve been in and many items were in Spanish (no surprise). There also was an up charge if you used a credit card vs paying cash.
The hot dogs are awesome! I bring my own little baggie of sauerkraut , diced onions and mustard.

Hello! Thanks for going to Costco!
My first visit to your channel.
Couldn’t watch all - got dizzy 😵💫 Will try another video
I live in Puerto Rico, we are a tiny island in the Caribbean region. We have Costco stores and even do we speak spanish everything is in english too.

I have a pair of diamond stud earrings in platinum that I bought from Costco almost 20 years ago and I love them! They have nice jewelry.

Yes ! I would agree ! But it is so shocking that so much of the packaging was in English when it’s really not at all a common language in France 🤔
Also the British market.
What is the name of the song played in the beginning of the video?
Thank you so much for this video.
I live in france metropolitaine for over 5 yeras now and did not know a Costco existed.
Howver I do have some questions:
Is the membership obligatory ?
Can you get there in public transportation ?
Do you think is worth shopping there?
Thank you for in advance for responing to my long comment lol.
I love that they don’t use artificial colors! Jealous we have the same brands in the US and full of artificial ingredients especially for Childrens snacks and cereals it’s infuriating! 😠
Great vlog❤. Next time please show us clothes & kitchen/ house stuff..
Hello from Quebec Canada, uniligual engish labels would be illegal here
Loved this video! I thought it strange as well for the writing on the products to be in English, especially when it says "Made in France". In the US we can't get liquor other than wine at our Costco.
Depends on state, my Costco, store #001 in Seattle, has some hard alcohol + wine.
Crazy that in Quebec that would all have to be written in French.
Very nice tour of the only thing I have as a problem is always the 99 bit on any price. It’s really ridiculous. Please tell them to put round numbers. I was working for well. Disney Company for sometime and I always told them to takeoff the $.99 whatever just put round number and now they do it and people are happy they don’t feel that they are being taken as stupid people
So once for just takeoff all the 99 on any price
Some people get a group together and agree to buy certain products and divvy them up. Split the cost and product.
I know you were sick during your Costco visit but you looked great! I have never been to Costco. I'm not into stocking up. LOL. Peace 🕊️
THANK YOU 😂 yes I totally get that, I’m not super into stocking up either but it was definitely more of an ✨experience✨ kind of thing haha
Jaeger ... might as well have a shot of Geritol. Oh well, to each his own. The cheese section ... book me a ticket!
Les prix SVP! C’est très important
Wait i need an explananation about whats going on at 18:34, you have to scan your cup to fill it?? And you can,t refill it?? It's illegal? That is WILD
In France there are laws against excessive sugar / salt / fat consumption hahahahaha 😂
Hy i realy liked your video. We are from Belgium, and i wonder if we can make a membership card and if we can pay with a regular european card. Or we need to have a dolar visa...can u please help
Yes ! You can pay in euros and use European ID 😊
Very surprised about all the English…Here in Quebec, all is in French at Costco…due to our law about French being mandatory on products to be sold in Quebec…..
Theres also a translation in French i think
Is the UK membership valid in France?
Just gotta say, Jean is a cutie ❤.
Ya bongs n Costco videos. 🇨🇦🥶👽. Awesome
Did you get the fruit loops?
No ! I actually really don’t like sweet cereals 😂 and I think the colours scared jean haha
If we took a drink every time you said literally, we would all be drunk.
Refrigerators are so small in Europa….to small for Costco refrigerated and frozen products.
This was a fun one. ❤
Now you've gotta find space for it!
😂🥲
You must have felt like you were home during this shopping trip!
Yes ! It felt so familiar ☺️
Molson Canadian? Now that is a shock!
Ce cauchemar. Bien les dreamers du samedi ?
Left you at 2.31....I'M dizzy.. Doubt I will be back again.😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
I really would have enjoy your blog more if you would have STOPPED spinning the camera...
like bugs? you should research how they get the "red velvet cakes" to be red.
Crushed beetles, cochineal colouring.
@@tracyholliday361 yup, exactly!
Costco sells freezers
French girlie didnt even know there were cosco here 😂😂😂
le temple de la malbouffe
Costco Paris is like cognitive dissonance for my brain… lol
I’m soooo confused and yet intrigued at the same time
Honestly same it was majorly confusing at first for me seeing French people in Costco hahaha
Lentement c’est trop vite SVP
Probably b/c Costco is so North American
❤
You are so radiantly beautiful yet you have that terrible condition that youve told us of but no one would know. It seems that every life has counter balances in it. I just find it poignant that, for all of us,we have some great advantage but also drawback in our lives. Sorry, must get back to the shopping......
Sorry but I had to stop watching, the swishing camera made me sea sick and dizzy!
