  • In this video I will show you the steps that I took to correct the paint on a 2017 Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor. This paint is very finicky and has really thin clear coat to begin with. It was a lot of work and didn't turn out perfect but it made a big turnaround.

Such a big improvement!! Gotta love it. Urofiber and FCC works as an amazing combo. I bet if you had put the urofiber or the microfiber pad on the m15 pro2, it would of had little to no stalling. I don’t think it likes those Rupes pads. I have similar towels like you have and they lint a lot so I moved them to utility as well. I had to ceramic coat my Tesla and PPF the front to keep the paint protected since its so thin. Great video Fab and have a great Labor Day weekend!

I ended uo using a yellow LC cutting oad oaired with Negs Ultimate compound followed by megs yktumate polish abd an orange LC pad. I found that the slower speeds corrected equally as fast and left almost no haze .
Whike the CC was thinner than most, it gad very little orange peel.

The fog on the door was from when they fixed and repainted the quarter panel. The tape job with the plastic probably wasn’t the best and clear coat made it under the plastic. Usually comes off with a heavy clay or good cutting compound. Nice job on the polishing, nothing beats a shiny black car.

The owner before me must have used it to race because the paint & the windshield are pitted real bad☹ When I first looked at it & I opened the hood I noticed that it had a wet N₂O setup. You know with N₂O hooked up you must be racing a little🤏 Enjoy the rest of your weekend FAB✌🏼✌🏼

Hey Brain, if I can give you an FYI. Soft paint is a pain of course. What I've found to work 95% of the time switch your polisher to a 12mm instead of the 15, or 21mm. The huge throw of bigger ones puts to much stress on the clear. You might want to try the Rupes Yellow Wool pad with your Polish, then switch over to your polishing pad for the finish work. This method on soft paint works 95% of time. Plus, the thin paint was working against you. And you still did a phenomenal job. 👍👍 two thumbs up my friend.

I just purchased a used Roadster and it has black paint. There are a few chips which I figure are permanent. But on the hood there are two "smears". I don't know how else to describe it. If you can imagine you had mud on your hand and with the ends of a couple fingers wiped a 3 inch irregular shaped spot, that is what the mark looks like. I tried the clay bar (used the Grios Synthetic one & Speed Shine) after I had washed it thoroughly the day before. Just waxed it and smear still there. I can't think what would cause it or how to fix it. On the "stripe" (assume it is vinyl, not painted on), there are water spots which wouldn't come up with the clay either. Any ideas? Oh and what product do you recommend for convertible soft tops?

  • @kawtriples

Nice job! Isn't there a new Hybrid Solutions product that fills in defects a little on the black paint to cover all them dots in the hood? I know that the old Turtle Wax Black Box would hide them some. Funny, I didn't buy any of the new Hybrid Solutions black items, thinking that I wouldn't get any black paint detailing jobs this year. Turns out that most of the jobs that I did this year were black vehicles. Corrected black vehicles sure are satisfying to look at when they are completed.

Ed Ornelas The meter is giving you an over all thickness of the paint between the meter and the metal body panel. Typical paint is about 4-5 mils and 2 mils is usually the clear coat. When it’s a high number then there is filler between the metal and the gauge. It’s basically a depth meter.

@@FABAutomotiveDetailing yeah I started watching paint thickness with apex Detail and now you. I never knew what that meant untill now. I hear microns and all this lingo and I'm like what. Also I splurged on a new polisher. Papa Smurf was doing a video so I thought hard and long so I took the splurge. I picked up the shinemate ex620.

Tesla excellent cars......But..the Paint is the worse ever! Chicago Auto Pro had to return one to the factory ..there was no paint in the back!! side note, i wonder if the haziness was worse because you stayed on the same panel, doing corecting then polishing right after!?? just curious ! soft paint hazes like crazy either way~! Thanks! You worked hard on that one for sure! good ceramic or graphine coating candidate

Dan Morrissette I agree they are good cars but paint sucks. From what I understand they are going to change the paint. Thank you! It was a lot of work but turned out great for the way it started.

Video title should be, “Why you don’t buy a black Tesla”. It looks a lot better, though. Would a coating have prevented those tiny sand chips?

    • @FABAutomotiveDetailing
      @FABAutomotiveDetailing  3 года назад

Thanks! That would be a good title. The coating would help but not completely stop the sand chips on the front.

You had same issue w stalling on thst Maxshine. I’m so disappointed in mine. I feel I blew 200 bucks

Frankie Kenneth This was the first time it really stalled I think it was the pads. When I use the thin Griots BOSS pads it doesn’t stall.

FAB Automotive Detailing ironically it’s the same pads ive got. I need to try it with my lake country or urofiber. Also may add the washer mod too

Rich Smith Not sure! I think it’s the thick Rupes pads because it doesn’t stall with my BOSS thin pads.

Tesla build quality and paint is just terrible. Engineering Explained had a terrible experience with his upon delivery. Panel gaps all over the place paint defects everywhere. Not good

Corey Wagganer I can see why they had problems. One thing is for sure though it is quick off the line.
