      I have 2 of them in a 75 gal & they are doing just fine
      they search the gravel for anything they can find &
      don't bother my nerite or Ramshorn snails, they tart
      in & out of the plant's & under the ornament rocks
      I have in the tank, they are fun to watch as well.

      Just been given 3 fairly large yoyo loach about 4inches long. Sadly 1 died 12hrs after introducing it/them into my 4ft lowboy heavily planted aquarium. The surviving 2 have settled in well with my corydoras and paradise fish. Should I get some more?

    Hands-down the goofiest and most fascinating fish I’ve kept. I picked up a 5.5” adult at my LFS to add to the five juveniles I had and he quickly became the BEST tank boss - will get annoyed when the smaller loaches get too rambunctious but is almost protective of the female apisto who hangs around “his” rock pile, and generally ignores the other tank residents. The apistos are maybe a sixth his size so I would not have taken that chance were he not such a chill dude.
    The fish guy at my LFS puts them in with cichlids from every continent because they can hold their own against bullies bigger than them but aren’t aggressive themselves, and said the only fish he doesn’t recommend putting them with are slow-and-flowys like male bettas (although my fancy goldfish does fine with them) or small-and-scared, like CPDs. And of course inverts are right out, they become snacks.
    Every one of my six yo-yos has a distinct personality and they give the tank the energy of a car full of bright middle schoolers on a long road trip - in a good way, but definitely not the fish you’re looking for if you’re going for a serene vibe in your tank.

    I have a friend who’s Rainbowfish got their eyes sucked out by Yoyo loaches. That’s why I think the Kubotai loach is just the superior yoyo loach - they’re much more peaceful.

    I was re-stocking a 55 gallon tank and I was planting it up. I wanted a bottom feeder that would stir up the sediment but not eat too much plants.
    I got these instead of cory cats, and I am glad I did. I had a clown loach once and it was very entertaining but once I remembered that , I was afraid the 3 yoyo loaches would be too big to let me add other fish (plus plants). Hopefully they stay under 4 inches so I can add a group of schooling fish. I'm waiting to see if they destroy the plants.

    Good information. I just bought a couple at Petsmart to deal with a bladder snail problem in a 29-gallon housing albino corys, white clouds, cherry barbs and aquatic frogs. Once they get bigger and solve that problem I should have my goldfish moved from a 55 to a 75-gallon tank and they will probably be the clean-up crew in the 55 for a betta sorority. I'm just inside Minneapolis's city limits and have 2 great fish stores as well as a Petco and Petsmart all within 4 miles of me. At one store the colors and varieties of female bettas almost put average male bettas to shame.

    Dwarf chain loaches are an even better option lol... they maxed out only to 2.5". Never seen one reaching 3". They have a ton of personality like most other loaches. They will also help decimate pest snail population in ur tank. I have a pair in two of my tanks. Nothing but empty snail shells laying around. 5" is still too big for me. My biggest tank is only a 29 gallon. My biggest fish is barely 3" and its a male kribensis cichlid.

      @@TheAquaticCoder I am starting a 55 gallon for my first angelfish tank that they might be good for. I have 3 quarter sized angels in quarantine right now and I'm gonna give them 4 weeks before putting them in my new 55. I really wanted to do them with 2 blood parrots because of your setup and I LOVE their derpy faces and personality but I'm still not sure. I love your tank and I really want to get some blood parrots but I can't help but to feel like an angelfish community tank and a blood parrot community tank might be better as 2 different tanks. I want green tiger barbs with them but they probably aren't good with the angels. Idk, I'm probably overthinking it. ..🤣

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 года назад

      Thanks I appreciate that! I actually ended up selling it when I moved the last time. I had the tank up and running for about a year before taking it down. No issues during that time but I know it isn't super long. I only sold it because I was upgrading the size of several tanks I knew I wasn't going to run a 4th one at the time. Figured it made sense to get back some of the money I was spending upgrading. In hindsight I kind of wish I kept it because it did look stunning. If the cost isn't an issue for it I'd recommend the Waterbox tanks.

    I’ve had issues keeping clown loaches more than 1-2 years. They end up with an internal parasite causing them to waste away (aka skinny disease). I’m wondering if yo-yo loaches are easily susceptible to the same parasites? Thanks for producing this informative video.

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  Год назад

      Yeah I have heard from many other keepers of the skinny issue. Thankfully I've had my largest for close to 3 years now. I'm very careful about quarantining fish I add to that tank now. Hopefully I never run into the issue. I don't know for sure but overall I've heard Yoyo Loaches are easier to keep than Clowns health wise

  • @leanneleake6710

    Great video! I love my yoyo’s too, they remind me of puppies 😂 I have 3 larger yoyo’s and would like to get 2-3 more. Do you think the older ones will be aggressive toward the new, smaller ones. Also, I’ve never observed my yoyo’s in the upper half of the tank. They always ‘play’ around the bottom half. Is this normal? They have also remained very shy when anyone approaches the tank, always zooming off to hide! Cheers from Australia 😊

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  Год назад

      I agree with them being like puppy's lol. I have only introduce one new loach to my original 6 but they just fit right into the pack. I have more experience introducing new Clown Loaches into an existing group. You can definitely see the groups hang out separate but there is not aggression between them. Loaches like Clowns/Yoyos like larger numbers so I think the risk of aggression is very low. In my experience the more the better so I definitely say go for it

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  Год назад +1

      And loaches are more of a bottom dwelling species so I think that's normal. Mine go all over but I don't think you should be concerned

    Why are these guys SO aggressively annoying to other fish ?! I have fish that could seriously EAT these guys but the yo-yo loaches are always beating on the predator. They constantly eat the crumbs that fall out my larger Central American cichlids and just constantly nibble and knock my bigger fish!!
