    Tarikh Episode 460
Tarikh is a daily Hindi programme in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons and Incidents. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about The Permian-Triassic extinction event, also known as the "Great Dying," was a catastrophic event that occurred approximately 252 million years ago. It is considered the most severe mass extinction event in Earth's history, wiping out about 96% of all marine species and 70% of terrestrial species.
The Carnian Pluvial Episode (CPE) was a period of increased rainfall that occurred during the late Carnian stage of the Triassic period, approximately 234 million years ago. This episode lasted for about one million years and was characterised by a significant increase in global precipitation, particularly in arid regions.
During the CPE, there was a marked shift in global climate, from a predominantly arid climate to a more humid and tropical climate. This shift is believed to have been driven by a variety of factors, including changes in ocean circulation patterns, increased atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, and volcanic activity.
The increased rainfall during the CPE had significant ecological effects, as it led to the emergence of new habitats and the evolution of new species, particularly in terrestrial ecosystems. The CPE is also associated with the diversification and proliferation of many major groups of animals, including dinosaurs, mammals, and modern reptiles.
