Leasehold land is typically 2-3x cheaper than freehold land. This makes it much better for operating a vacation rental business if you want higher profits. Leasehold can be held for up to 80 years in your name and even extended beyond that if you make a prior agreement with the land owner.
Freehold can be bought by foreigners if you setup a PT PMA (foreign investment company) and the minimum investment is 10 Billion IDR ($700,000 USD). Freehold is then converted to a HGB title.
