- The conversation around the suspended DA member of parliament continues after a 16-year old video of him inciting racist remarks using the 'K' and 'N' words went viral. Executive Director of IRR Legal Gabriel Crouse weighs in.
Tune into Newzroom Afrika DStv channel 405 for more.
If what he did is similar to what Malema did, then Malema went to court to defend himself for that. likewise, he must also go there to defend himself as well.🤔
True, but he will not get a fair trial...
Absolutely. Let the courts decide.
Notice how the courts made a bad judgment when it's Malema because context doesn't matter when it's him😂 but he was trying to make Gous racism justifiable
@@vicetsebeth2187Oh please.
He didn't do wht malema did.
He was satiring wht malema did to make a point tht the song is racist
Ha Ha Gabriel shut that tirade rant right down with 3 words. 'Everyone's feelings matter" Sooo cool man.
Not mine especially on trivial matters like these😱
The interviewer was really triggered by this guy.
White should just leave Africa period.
she was misled by the name of the institute and expected a measured response. not a whitesplanation of how it was semantic to say ka***** or Nig***** and neither here nor there as if the comparison couldn't be made without simply saying black people.
in fact, the man says that it was a matter of intellectual honesty that the words be used be used the K and N words are, by his reasoning, equal in this context and should not be substative to the analysis of this "rhetorical comparison."
Context? In what context is what Renaldo said justified? Fine, Malema has been charged many times for that song, so Renaldo should be punished as well right? And why are we deflecting? Playing the "what about" game? We need to have honest conversations about race and who it really effects and has effected on a larger scale.
Affected, how and when😱. What are you going to teach your children that the k word is degrading?. Surely, this insane😊. And besides, this word doesn't appear anywhere in the dictionary. Besides it's anybodys choice how it feels to be called ka--r.. Don't speak for me trying to make your feelings as "a one size fits all" type of a feeling ☹️☹️
@@margaretlesoleso A word so vile, you can't even type it in full? It is meant to degrade black people, and has no other meaning. If you're not offended by it, congratulations here's your medal 🥇. But the vast majority does and we make decisions based on the majority. And WHAT? It doesn't appear in the dictionary? So that makes it okay? And it does exist, try this magical thing called Google, or get back to your meds and give your grandson his phone back.
How about if he was saying that line to demonstrate _exactly why_ that is an unacceptable thing to say? Context does matter.
Racism will never end in this country. You walk in a place a people who don't look like you clutch their handbags. What is that?
Malema was not charged. According to the court saying 'k1ll the boer' is fine it was a freedom song even though it is directed towards a people and the words incite violence. We all know it is ridiculous to believe any different and is disgusting.
How is this guy working at the Institute of Race Relations with such an embarrasingly poor understanding of race in South Africa? Disgusting.
Feel free to tell us what makes you such an expert in this field ....
Dom Doos !!!!
The "Institute of Race Relations" is a joke. They're a bunch of geriatric white liberals and that weirdo 'Big Daddy Liberty'.
@@truth-Hurts375 I'm sorry for giving you the wrong idea here this was not for you. My comment was clearly directed toward people with sense.
Are you listening to what is being said?
He is white do you know how many white work in that farce of an institution? 😂😂😂😂
Naledi just flippantly says 'kill the boer' how hurtful. Has she no shame? She perfectly express's the double standard and is disgusting she said that aloud. It hurt my feelings.
White fragility
Oh please -
Exactly...his point too.
Naledi asks a very specific question that says "Can you actively say that the feelings of black people when they hear the K word do not matter because of the context of the conversation in which it was used. His response is so callously casual and he says "Everyone's feelings matter". This reminds me of the way in which racist white people in America started the trend of saying "all lives matter" in response to the slogan "black lives matter". This is the disgusting attitude that all racists have whenever an issue is raised pertaining to an attack on black people.
The fact that this guy works for the IRR is actually very telling of what the IRR stands for. Goes to show that what an institution stands for is not really found on its mission and vision statement, but it is found in the people who represent it.
Stop playing the card.
What's new !! The fact that we have to sit here and listen to white people whitesplaining racism to us and gaslighting us about it induces a gag reflex :-(
@@MarkHutchinson-ry9szWhich card?
I'm not sure if it's fair to equate "everyone's feelings matter" with being racist. I definitely think it was inappropriate for him to start going into his own experiences with the EFF etc. It came off as though he was sympathetic to Gouws.

Before we can do that, please give my piece of wealth, privilege and land.

True. That said, have folks watched the entire clip? And understand that Gouws was trying to draw comparisons between the use of songs and words? He wasn't actually calling anyone anything. He was simply making a point.
@@helenduplessis4166who are the K word and n word he was referring to exactly than?
It was a comparison of how hurtful and destructive words are that Malema said and if in the same token the k word and n word was said it would also be very destructive and hurtful. Both should be illegal. It was a comparative It was not directed at anybody specifically It was an emotional rant that tried to show how equally hurtful it is. But racist words of violence with intent toward boers is legally fine but the other way around not.
@@samanthaholm9634 a racist emotional rant,we can agree on that. K word and N word in whatever context is racist,as both words come from a vile historical context and for Renaldo to feel privileged enough to willy nilly use those words is disgusting.

This guy's understanding of what racism is, is very shallow.
And you have exceptional understanding? When is your book due?
They're really not going to label this guy racist😂
Well said Gabriel.
I struggled finding out what this k-word was all about until I googled it. 😂😂 I have listened to modern Afrikaner people using this word several times here in Botswana post apartheid era. The word is often used when they are agitated, in a heated debate, when they lose their cool and running out of explanations. Afrikaner people never want to lose a debate against a black person no matter how silly their point of view is.
The Institute of Rigid Racists is right to defend their culture.
Coming from a racist like you tells you everything about our country
They let Malema off the hook.

it might be merely a taboo to you. for us, it is an experience, its humiliation. its live. its when people look at you and without knowing a thing about you, conclude that you are lower than filth, barely human and undeserving of the same rights and opportunities bestowed by the accident of all our births.
Saying most black people did not if experienced racism in the past 5 years is so stupid considering most come from black townships and many are unemployed which impacts how frequently they interact. Journalism in SA where pushback can get you fired by the very people you are trying to push back against.

Being unemployed isn't a product of present day racism existing 😂
The Institute of Rigid Racists should give Gouws a job then. To try to argue that Gouws isn’t a racist is irrational and deplorable.
How so😭
After watching the whole video this guy is going to win this case
I hope they use this as a case to shut down, once and for all, and firstly, Julius "Jelly Tot" Malema. If "Kill the Boer" is to be seen "in context", then other expressions and utterances must also be seen in context. By the way, the short video was edited, Gouws NEVER called for the killing of Blacks, as Malema did for Whites...

Think about this....would this video ever have surfaced if Mr Gouws was never elected to parliament ?
No. It wouldn't matter as much.
It matters now because he would have to serve all the people of this country and it is clear that Renaldo Gouws holds Black people in contempt, so how can he be trusted to serve ALL equally and with fairness?
