If you fast-forward one million years from now, would an alien civilization be doing the same to learn about us? What would Earth look like one million years from now? I wish I could see the future hundreds of thousands of years from now, but I highly doubt we will discover how to make us immortal and or super slow to aging with in my lifetime. I'd love if we did so I could make it to thousands of years old before expiring but I know that just isn't very realistic with our technology at the current state it is.

On a miniseries called Year Million u can find on Disney+, there r 2 episodes of what humans could possibly b like. 1, is using telepathic technology. To send out ur thoughts, emotions, and dreams for a better understanding of each other and cooperation. 2, is altering ur physiology to live on colonized planets instead of terraforming it. If that happens, we would create subspecies of humanity. Just like dogs and wolves for canines.

I find it unlikely humans could go completely extinct unless if earth is completely destroyed
It only takes an asteroid to hit earth. Maybe in a hundred years time they will be able to deflect them, but the worst things happen when not expected (earthquakes, volcanoes etc)

Then that would mean our timeline is an alternate timeline because theirs was the prime timeline so the question is what were they hoping to change or see. They can't go back into their own history because u have to travel faster than the speed of light and that would cause an infinity loop and violate causality.

I imagine the earth 1 million years from now would be pretty similar to The Doom of Valyria. We'd be extinct, and all that would be left is the ruins of a once great civilization, but the man made horrors we left behind would probably be still lurking around in all the shadows. If there ever is an interplanetary system in the future, the Earth would probably be a spooky place with all sorts of "and they were never seen again" stories of expedition teams mysteriously losing contact and seemingly got by whatever lives there now.
