On top of getting a lot of food from the Adventure Map, you can easily rank up your monsters by replaying nodes on the Adventure Map. You can't replay ones that are too easy, but replaying a level 4 times is enough to gain a level on your monsters that would otherwise cost you a lot of food, especially when you want to level up monsters that you're ranking up (star level). Personally I'll level up two at a time and use Nishant the Great or Serpentex to beat the level in one turn because of their high damage
