@Pokyhawk YES!! I was trying to remember that one & couldn't for the life of me when I commented. Thanks. Lol. It's definitely a fun one. Afyer Ghost, it reminds me of Patrick Swayze singing it to annoy.
Every time I hear The Monkees, I'm transported back to being a 12 or 13 year old girl, sitting on the floor in front of the TV, waiting for their show to start. During those 30 minutes, the outside world didn't exist. Nobody could make a sound while I was watching (yes, I was that big a brat and very obsessed). I memorized most of their songs and saved the little bit of money I had to buy a single when I could. I also liked the Beatles just as much at the same time, but the Beatles didn't have a weekly TV show.
My first record purchase was the single Valerie by The Monkees. It was a 45 rpm and the B side was Tapioca Tundra the most experimental song they did. I don't have the single any more, but I still listen to Tapioca Tundra occasionally and am still a big fan.
Try “Pleasant Valley Sunday”, “I’m Not Your Steppin’ Stone”, “Mary Mary”, “The Kind of Girl I Could Love”, “I Wanna be Free” and “Last Train to Clarksville”
The Monkees were modeled after the Beatles, specifically after their personas in the Beatles movie “A Hard Days Night.” The Beatles were a real band, friends from Liverpool. The Monkees were a boy band, cast to appear in the tv show. Davy Jones (the British lead singer in this song) was a stage actor, singer and dancer. He actually appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show the same night the Beatles made their debut, as one of the cast members of “Oliver.” The Monkees’ sound is modeled on the Beatles sound and some of their songs are inspired by similar-sounding Beatles songs. The Monkees were also musicians, though, and fought to be able to play their instruments on recordings.
RIP, Davy Jones - Vocalist (1945-2012) RIP, Peter Tork - Piano, Bass, Vocals (1942-2019) RIP, Michael Nesmith - Guitar, Vocals (1942-2022) Mickey Dolenz - Drums, tambourine. Still alive and making music. The TV show was a lot of fun; I remember watching the reruns as a kid in the 80s, first on Saturday mornings, then as a teen when MTV revived them by showing it. The Monkees were always one of those bands, not as good as the Beatles because they were created for the TV series (dubbed the "Fabricated Four"). While Dolenz and Jones didn't have musical chops on instruments, Tork and Nesmith did. They didn't write all of their songs, but they got to a point where they sure as hell could play them. "Daydream Believer" is my favorite Monkees song. My second favorite is an almost country sounding one sung by Michael Nesmith, "What Am I Doin' Hangin' 'Round." They made a big-screen movie in 1968 called 'Head,' which is famous for Jack Nicholson, who co-produced and co-wrote the film. It was purposely made to "kill" the Monkees, but it has since gained a cult status and is kind of weirdly enjoyable. It is very odd, stream-of-consciousness, and different.
@@FeaturingRob Over 20 years ago, my wife and I saw the Rocky Hottor Picture Show plain on Broadway (Joan Jett was in it). Anyway, we come out into the lobby for intermission and who was there, Mickey Dolenz (who was my personal favorite Monkee). So random, but it was a cherry on top of a great night!!
Micky did however learn the drums, quite well. He was one of the founding members of The Hollywood Vampires Drinking Club at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in the early '70s with Alice Cooper, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon and Ringo Starr - John Lennon, Joe Walsh and some notable others joined later. Their antics remain Legendary, such as John and Harry getting kicked out of more than a few famous places after departing The Rainbow in a stupor.
I saw the Monkees in concert the year Davy passed. They said the song belongs to the fans now, the entire theater sung in unison while they played, not a dry eye in the place. It was a beautiful moment.
I got to see Davy in a local venue around a year before he passed...and managed to get a signature for my parents (as they're both big fans and turned me onto the group). I know that they've got a personalized message from Micky Dolenz (the percussionist...here with the tambourine) and I think they've a signature from Mike (guitarist); nothing from Peter, sadly, though.
People will most likely recommend "Last Train to Clarksville" or "I'm not your Steppin Stone" as songs to check out, but my favorite Monkees songs were "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "The Girl I Knew Somewhere", "Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You"
They had a LOT of huge hits! Their debut album knocked the Beatles off #1 on the charts, then their second album knocked the debut off of #1. As an 8-10 yr old at the time, I loved them!
Herman’s Hermits is the band that recorded “Mrs. Brown”. The lead singer’s name was Peter Blair Dennis Bernard Noone. I went to their concert and they were playing along with The Animals with Eric Burden.
Thanks for playing the monkees, they were so loved. In college I was decorating a homecoming float, and started singing this song then every one else joined in. But the Beatles were the best
Neil Diamond composed "I'm a Believer". And I have in my music collection, that is a live version of Neil singing "I'm a Believer", in which he says "this one is for the Monkees". Yes, Neil covers a song he wrote for another group and mentions the Monkees as he intros the song. And I consider that production a gem in my collection. Neil mentioning the Monkees, even though it is his song, what a class act.
I'm a Believer" was covered by Smash Mouth at the end of the movie Shrek. There are probably a lot of people who love that version and never heard the Monkees do it.
@@TeresaOverholt-ky1ct Oh, yeah! And she got to meet him after she lost her diary - oh, the tragedies endured by the Brady's!!!🤣 (am I remembering correctly?)
One of my favorites from the late 60’s!!! Davey Jones was the Brit lead singer….. We all loved the Monkees…. Made for TV band modeled after the Beatles…. Watch some of their goofy TV episodes!! And if you want a real tear jerker, watch the memorial get together to honour Davy Jones, after he died of a heart attack in 2012….. Daydream Believer was his song, so when Peter, Mickey and Daveys daughter & friends sing this song…. You will weep!
I’m 64 and watched the tv show live in 1966. I was lucky enough to know both David - the singer and Peter - the blond. Miss them. They have tons of hits. The guy you’re thinking of is Peter Noone from Herman’s Hermits. David played the Artful Dodger on stage in Oliver and performed with that cast on Ed Sullivan. My favorite Monkees albums are Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones, since they did the music themselves.
Growing up the monkees were my favorite group. Honestly still my favorite group. Anytime im sad or get bad news they are my comfort group. Sad only one is still alive. Rip Davy, Peter and Mike. Man i miss those guys.
I worked for a custom audio video company in the 1990’s. I worked for several famous people. One day I got a work order for a John Stewart. I arrived at the address and was met at the door by a tall older gentleman. He introduced himself and led me inside. I met his wife, and he started to tell me where to install two Satellite Dish receivers, one in the LR, one in the Master BR. I quickly realized just WHO I was standing next to. THEE John Stewart, original member of the Kingston Trio (Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley)!!! As we walked upstairs, lining the walls of the hallway where numerous GOLD records! I stopped in front of one particular Gold record. “Daydream Believer”. There it was. At that point I fanboyed a bit, and told Mr. Stewart that I grew up watching and listening to The Monkees. I knew all of their hits. Turns out John Stewart wrote many Gold hits, like “Gold” with Stevie Nicks, and “Daydream Believer” was one of them. John chuckled softly and said, “That song bought me a few houses.” Some days just turn out magical. That was one of them for me.
To this day, this is still my favourite song of all time. always makes me feel good even when things aren't going well. If you don't like this your not alive.
I use to watch The Monkees on TV as a preteen. Davey Jones was one of my 1st crushes and loved when Davey was on The Brady Bunch. Such good and wholesome time!
This is another reminder of how talented that era was. Tons of incredible art aging really, really well. As silly as they could be, they were a power house and still sound incredible.
A few years before in London Davey originated the role of the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver, then on Broadway where he earned a Tony nomination for best supporting actor in a musical!
No he didn't play the artful dodger in The original movie Oliver. It was Jack Wild who played The Artful Dodger and who then ended up starring in HR Puffinstuff...
@@caskur1 I remember Saturday morning cartoons along with bizarre world of Sid and Marty Krofft's HR Pufnstuf. That was one weird show! I was a big fan of " The Secrets of Isis" ...not THAT Isis, young folks!🤣 Ordinary teacher finds a magical amulet that turns her into a Greek goddess with superpowers! Now that's some good TV!🤣
@@caskur1Davy was the Artful Dodger in the Broadway production of Oliver. He was 16 and already a star on the West End. The cast, including Davy, was the act just before The Beatles' first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.
I was so crazy about the Monkees when I was 11 years old🥰 They’ve all passed on now except for Mickey Dolenz . The Monkees were a manufactured band. Great reaction. ❤️✌🏻🎶
My favorite Monkees song was I’m a Believer. I was in 6th grade when it was a hit. (I had a huge crush on Davey Jones.) Every Friday night we would go to the ice skating rink and they would play this song for a “couples only” skate. I’d get to hold hands with my boyfriend while we skated around the rink. There’s something about the way young love feels at age 12 that you can never recreate. “I’m a Believer”always brings me back there. Good memories.
@@fu6817 Michael Nesmith pitched a music video TV show called Pop Clips to network TV execs in 1979. A pilot was made, and one of the Nickelodeon execs liked it and picked it up. They shopped it around and wanted to expand it to an entire channel and approached Nesmith to be the creative director, but he didn't like the people involved, so he sold the idea instead. That was what became MTV.
I’m 68 and this has brought back so many memories. Used to love the antics of the Monkees in their TV show. The singer is David Jones, is the only Englishman in group. ❤️
It makes my soul smile to see someone loving The Monkees. I discovered them back in the 80's in middle school and my Mama surprised me and my BFF with tickets to their reunion concert. This song never fails to make me happy. Glad to see their legacy living on! Awesome reaction!
The Monkees was a TV show. These guys were actors auditioned for the roles. Two were also musicians. They didn't write any songs. All improved their musicianship and went on to tour together for years.
I saw them in concert several times, the last in Clearwater, FL a few years ago. It was a superb concert. Their TV show in the 60's was fire. This is just good old fashion music of happy days. My favorite Monkee song, Last Train To Clarksville
The one in red singing is Davy Jones. He was a child star on stage & TV in his native England. He came here to be on Broadway in Oliver Twist (he played The Artful Dodger & was on The Ed Sullivan Show doing a bit from Oliver with some of the other cast members on the same episode where the Beatles made their U. S. TV debut). He was 5' 3" and loved horses, he was also a jockey. David Bowie's real name was David Jones, he changed his name because this Davy Jones was already known. Sitting next to him on the piano is Peter Tork. Playing guitar is Michael Nesmith from TX (his mom created Liquid Paper and he helped start MTV, he was an innovator in music videos, but he did not want to run the network). On tambourine is Micky Dolenz (my personal favorite Monkee!) He is from L. A. and was also a child star, like Davy. He had the title role in a TV show called Circus Boy & his dad was also an actor, and his daughter Ami is an actress. The Beatles were such a success with their movies that some Hollywood suits decided to make a TV show using 4 young guys being silly like in the Beatles movies, and these 4 guys won their auditions. At first The Monkees didn't play their own instruments, but they mutinied and got their way to play their own instruments, especially since they got concert gigs. They were called the Prefab Four because of that, a play on the Beatles being called The Fab Four. Micky is the only one still with us. P. S. Dig the Davy Dance!
Everybody loved and still loves The Monkees. They were kinda a guilty pleasure - a GREAT story behind them. There's a movie on Netflix. A "made for TV" band made up of four guys who didn't know each other and weren't expected to ever be a real band, just TV actors. They took their lives in their own hands and BECAME a real band in real life, and bucked the phony TV system back then. Pure, simple sound, and really, Mike Nesmith was one hell of a songwriter and talented guitarist. Davy had a great voice, and the other two stepped up on harmonies, keys and drums. You are thinking of Herman's Hermits. Mrs. Brown You have a Lovely Daughter. The Beatles were much "deeper" and groundbreaking, classic status - but The Monkees always make you feel good.
Saw them in concert August 1967. So underrated and deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Davy didn't want to sing Daydream Believer, but it ended up being their biggest hit. They were friends with the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Stephen Stills, and many, many more rockers. You asked for a Beatles song to compare; "Good Day Sunshine".
The Monkees were often referred to as the Pre-fab Four (the Beattles were called the Fab Four). The two groups met once in England and the song "Randy Scouse Git" by the Monkees was a result of that meeting. Herman's Hermits were the singers of "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter." I loved the Monkees back in the day as well as Herman's Hermits. Yes, I'm that old. I'm also a performer and have done songs by both groups for years. The Monkees have a LOT of hits. The only movie made by the Monkees was "Head" and was directed and I think produced by Jack Nicholson, who was a good friend of theirs. The first talent show I ever won was in the 9th grade in Austin, Texas. I won with my band by playing and singing The Monkees song "Mary, Mary," which was my girlfriend's name.
Davy Jones was my teenage crush! The reason he sounds like Peter Noone from Herman’s Hermits who sang Mrs. Brown is because they are both British. My daughters name is Jean. When she was about 14 we saw the Monkees at Chastain Park in Atlanta. And when they played daydream believer, it was like they were singing to her! And to this day, that is my ringtone for her… In a very loud tone cheer up, sleepy Jane comes blaring on! Thank you for reminding me how much I love this song! By the way, my children made their way to the front of the stadium and got to see them up close. They came back and tried to get me to go up there, and I said I was in love with a very young Davy Jones, and did not want to see the very old Davy Jones up close! L O L you have to check out Pleasant Valley Sunday and their most classic I believe last train to Clarksville which is literally about trying to avoid the draft, but nobody knows that! And my favorite Beatles song is When I’m 64
This song is so special to my family. My Moms name is Jean and we listened to this song pretty much on loop my whole life. We lost her a year ago and this song has brought so much comfort in our grief.
I used to watch their show as a kid. My sister swears she saw their custom GTO convertible driving down the street one day lol! They had a lot of songs worth listening to - try both songs from their show, opening and closing, Last Train To Clarksville, I'm A Believer, I Wanna Be Free, Valleri, Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow, A Little Bit You A Little Bit Me, many more!
That's Davey Jones❤ Peter Tork on the piano, Mike Nesmith with guitar and Mickey Dolenz with tambourine he played the drums too ❤️💕💖💖 LOVE MY MONKEES!!!!!!!!!
I grew up loving the Monkees and their TV show. They knock spots the modern groups and they didn't even start off as a group. Thanks for videos like this it not only brings back memories, they're so young and typified the spirit of the decade. Oh how I wish I had a time machine.
In 1999 I was 21 and went to a casino for the first time. I was playing on a slot machine and heard the Monkees playing, then another Monkees song. When the 3rd one was playing, I got up and walked towards the stage area and there was The Monkees playing live. I sat at a table and watched. In between sets, they asked to join me and I accepted. They were interested in me being young and how long I've been a fan, as far back as I can remember. Unfortunately it wasn't all 4, just Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mickey Dolenz. Mike Nezmith was missing. RIP Davy, Peter and Mike. ❤❤❤❤
I was crushed to find out that I was watching reruns after school and that these guys were 20 years older than I thought. They actually have one of my favorite back stories on the who's what's and where's. The sitcom is absolutely a good time as well!
My brother and I loved the Monkees when we were kids. Never missed an episode. One day my dad said "If you like these guys, you'll love the Beatles", which is odd because he didn't like anything that wasn't Johnny Mathis or the Glen Miller Band. But he bought my brother a Beatles album, and changed our lives. By the time I was 7 we were singing three part harmonies with my little sister. But we still loved the Monkees, and when a local station started showing reruns every day at 4 in my teens, we always made sure we were home to watch it, haha!
There is no band greater than The Beatles. Period. There was no sound like theirs before they came on the scene in America in February 1964, 3 months after President Kennedy was killed before our eyes. The whole country, and even the world was in shock and in mourning! Thank God the Beatles scored a hit record and came to America. 70 million plus people watched their debut performance on the Ed Sullivan Show and it inspired literally HUNDREDS of bands which became popular in the 60’s and 70’s and 80’s. Everything changed in music and culture around the world. The Monkees was a group put together strictly to make a tv show. They were created to resemble The Beatles. Two in the band were actors and two were musicians but they could all sing. They became a huge phenomenon with tweens age group. And we all grew up with The Beatles and all these awesome bands, and the Monkees. Their first two albums were produced by other musicians. They had to teach themselves how to play so they could tour. All the rest of their albums were them singing and playing. Crazy, man! The Beatles….all 4 were front men, lead singers. All 4 ended up becoming songwriters. It started out just John and Paul doing the songwriting and they are now considered the most successful songwriting team in music history. No song sounds like the next. They started singing love songs but then switched to other subject matter which made you have to think! And every band had to somehow compete with them for air time on the radio! Most would release a single 45 record with their best song one one side and a throwaway song on side B. Not the Beatles. They would put 2 hits on a single, and so they would have 2 big hits at the same time on the radio. They would release a 45 rpm single every 3 months and an album once or twice a year. We only had them from 1964 to 1970. They had 21 number one hits on the Billboard charts. 36 more made the top 10. 74 more made to the top 40 radio rotation! In February 1964, they had the top 5 spots on the charts in the same week. You should do more Monkees, because they were a good band. The tv show was only on for 2 seasons. But the band kept going! But you should be doing a LOT, LOT more Beatles because they influenced so many great bands and they could write in EVERY genre! They created music genres. Like psychedelic rock, progressive rock, metal rock, punk rock. They also did word art songs. Like a collage of words and sounds. They did children’s songs and lullaby’s. The did experimental musical art before anyone ever did it. They stopped touring in 1966 because fans were screaming so loud they couldn’t hear themselves play. So while other bands would create albums either one or two hits from their single releases and the rest of the songs were just fillers….the Beatles made sure every song on their albums could be hits….and they often were. It became normal for DJ’s to play every song on their albums on the radio! Dive down that rabbit hole, my friend!
On the same Ed Sullivan Show episode that featured The Beatles' TV debut, there was a song by the character who played The Artful Dodger in the show Oliver! He was overshadowed by The Beatles, as that was who everyone in the crowd was there too see. That young chap making his TV debut was Davy Jones, later to become lead singer of the Monkees.
Now go watch a couple of Guns N Roses videos from back in the day - I was always amused by how Axl seemed to have "borrowed" Davy Jones' dancing style. LOL. I do love The Monkees, I was never a Beatles fan but when I discovered these guys as a teenager in the 80s, I fell in love!

Thank you for loving The Monkees! I felt so vindicated when you said you thought you might like them better than the Beatles! You made my day❤
If I was ever forced to choose just three, they would be numbers 2, 3, and 4 on your list, though I'd swap Pleasant Valley and What Am I Doing. The opening riff on Pleasant Valley is so good
Fun Fact: The Monkees was a TV show. The 4 actors had little background in music and played a band in the show. At the beginning, but as the show got bigger, The 4 actor's started to play music better and became a true band. Another fun fact: At a party, were members from The Monkees and other bands, including The Beatles, got together with other people in Hollywood. At one point, John Lennon was over heard talking to Peter and Davie Jones, saying that, "The Monkees at the Marks Brothers of The Beatles".
My mum's teenage crush was Davy Jones, when she passed we played this at her funeral. My friends who were there to support me were confused af when everyone started happily singing along drenched in tears. To this day I can't hear this song without happy crying.
few fun facts about the monkees the Monkees were originally a fictional band created for the NBC sitcom The Monkees, which aired from 1966 to 1968. The band members were cast to play the parts of a band, and the group's music was featured on the show and released on singles and LPs. The Monkees went on to become a real band, writing, recording, and performing. They became one of the best-selling acts in popular music history. Here are some things to know about the Monkees: Producer Bob Rafelson created the concept for the band based on his own experiences as a musician. The band members were chosen through a casting call and had to learn to work together as a band. Their early music Before 1967, the band's songs were mostly written by outside producers and played by studio musicians, with the band members mainly providing vocals. Their live performances The Monkees' live shows were innovative for the time, using film clips and images to accompany their performances. Their relationship with The Beatles The Beatles liked The Monkees and let them participate in some of their sessions
I remember watching the Monkees TV show, they were hilarious. Davy Jones the singer, Mickey Dolenz on the Tamborini, Mike Nesmith on the Guitar, and Peter Tork on the piano, and they were always monkeeing around.
One of my favorite bands back when I was a teeny-bopper! Along with the Herman Hermits, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Dave Clark Five, Beatles, Turtles, and many others!
I had the biggest crush on Davy Jones in the early 70's. He appeared, as himself on a Brady Bunch episode and sang the song, "Girl". My heart melted. I've love the Monkees ever since.
The Monkees are icons. They have so many more song. Love them so much. The lead singer is Davey Jones, the piano player is Peter Tork, the guitar player is Michael Nesmith and the one with the tambourine is Mickey Dolenz. Love your reaction!
The Monkees were "invented" by a TV studio and so when their show was canceled all of the songs were owned by the studio. It took years before they could go back to performing as the Monkees. Micky Dolenz did a lot of voice over work. I recognized him as the voice of Arthur in The Tick cartoon.
Have seen them in concert at least 4 times. They are a big part of my youth. I’m Not Your Stepping Stone is a good one. Their songs just make you smile. ❤😊
The Beatles & The Animals were basically groups of mates who got together & formed bands, in respectively Liverpool & Newcastle. The Monkees were a purely fictional band, put together by a TV company, through adverts, for a programme series; pretty much the first 'boy band'. Peter Tork [ the blonde ] was an accomplished folk musician, & Mike Nesmith [ with the guitar ] wasn't bad either. Mickey Dolenz [ tambourine ] had a child acting career, as did English Davey Jones, the singer. After being 'put together', they became quite serious about being a proper band of musicians, and it irked them that for their early material, they were given songs to sing straight out of the Brill building, and had to mime & lip synch, while session musicians recorded the tracks. Eventually, they started to break free, but the franchise was running out, & perhaps the TV company didn't like the monster they had created. Mike Nesmith went on to a long & quite successful solo career, & Peter Tork ended up in Laurel Canyon, where the real LA musicians were. Currently, only Mickey Dolenz survives.
The Beatles song that would trump this one is "Come Together". You will love it as it is your vibe for sure. With that said i absolutely love Daydream Believer and The Monkees in general... absolute legends!
A fun TV show from the 60s. They were put together for the TV show but did all their performing. They toured for yrs after the show ended. Fun story. Jimi Hendrix's first tour was with the Monkees.
Don't forget, Michael Nesmith was also a songwriter. He wrote "Different Drum" a big hit for Linda Ronstadt.
And Mickey is still touring
We need to put him in bubble wrap.
I saw the Monkees in concert the year Davy passed. They said the song belongs to the fans now, the entire theater sung in unison while they played, not a dry eye in the place. It was a beautiful moment.
I did too! My son took me to the one they did at the Greek outdoor theater in LA. I smiled and cried through the whole concert! Truly memorable!❤️
I saw that concert at the Greek. Weird Al was the opener. He did the last song with them with his accordion and wearing Mike’s iconic beanie.
The world's first industry manufactured boy band.
"Pre-Fab Four"!
You just offended the Tavistock Institute (Beatles reference there.)
Yes, but they were all talented musicians, song writers before they got this "gig" Mrs. Thiel
You said you didn’t know how this song is making you feel,
What it’s making you feel is:
HAPPY!!
The feeling you get from listening to the Monkees is joy, relaxation, happiness, peace, etc..
People will most likely recommend "Last Train to Clarksville" or "I'm not your Steppin Stone" as songs to check out, but my favorite Monkees songs were "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "The Girl I Knew Somewhere", "Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You"
and Shades of Grey
@@MP-od1zz "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" was also written by Neal Diamond.
The Monkees, not shabby for a put together band for TV! Love them
They had a LOT of huge hits!
Me 2 as a 60s child my self born in 196o
@@theodoreritola7641me too 😀
Thanks for playing the monkees, they were so loved.
Neil wrote 8 songs that the Monkees sang
He also wrote Last Train to Clarksville among others,
Beat me to that.
I'm a Believer" was covered by Smash Mouth at the end of the movie Shrek. There are probably a lot of people who love that version and never heard the Monkees do it.
Love love the monkeys thanks for reminding me, to be a daydream Believer ❤❤❤
Yes when I was younger I loved watching the Monkees television show and Davy Jones was a crush of mine. He also had a stint on the Brady Bunch.
I remember that when MARSHA had a crush on Davy Jones 😂
I used to watch them growing up too.
"I'll never wash my cheek again "😅
@@TeresaOverholt-ky1ct Oh, yeah! And she got to meet him after she lost her diary - oh, the tragedies endured by the Brady's!!!🤣 (am I remembering correctly?)
But I think she dumped Davy for Desi Arnaz, Jr. ( I don't remember which one came first) 😂❤
This is the type of music that just makes you happy. It’s infectious. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Last train to Clarksville, from their first album. Yeah I had a crush on Davy too.
Finally The Monkees!!!!!! Wahoo!!!!! 😊
The Herman’s Hermits sang Mrs. Brown. You have a lovely daughter.!
Hi, you are correct! Davy Jones voice does remind me of Peter Noones' vocals with Herman's Hermits, also.
Maybe because they're both English?
@@RandomPau Both from Manchester!
@@RandomPau Both from the same City:Manchester:)
Peter Noone from Herman’s Hermits and Davey Jones were both from Manchester England so the accents are similar.
Peter Noone and Davy Jones were the voices of Tiny Cowboy in Phineas and Ferb.
Exactly right !
Love Peter's Mrs Brown you've got a lovely daughter!
.........and I thought that I was the first to write that:)
Davy was on Coronation Street before he went to the US.
Thanks!
I use to watch The Monkees on TV as a preteen. Davey Jones was one of my 1st crushes and loved when Davey was on The Brady Bunch. Such good and wholesome time!
Then the Partridge Family show and songs also.....
They play the Monkees TV show on AXS channel. I still enjoy it ❤❤❤
Oh yes I had a crush on him as well. So sad when he died hardly got a mention in the UK 😢
You couldn't miss a show, every show had a new song. Love the Monkeys always will. Enjoy
This is another reminder of how talented that era was. Tons of incredible art aging really, really well. As silly as they could be, they were a power house and still sound incredible.
As a kid, loved the Monkees t.v. shows so fantastic.
Fact!
I love these guys, this song always make me smile, what a sign of a piece of music treasure..
Davy Jones was one of my first crushes. ❤ I love this song.
For a complete 180 try Randy Scouse Git

Yesssssssss!
Same ❤
Same and Bobby Sherman too 😊
I loved Davy with every fiber of my little 9-year-old being 😂❤
I was so crazy about the Monkees when I was 11 years old🥰 They’ve all passed on now except for Mickey Dolenz . The Monkees were a manufactured band. Great reaction. ❤️✌🏻🎶
Mike is the Father of Music Videos, MTV. In High School then. TV, the Monkees show was the rage. Their albums got worn out.
Mike Nesmith's Mom invented whiteout and left her fortune to Mike when she passed away ❤
When they aired the show on MTV, I recorded them all. Except one. I found out I had missed that one episode when I bought the box set. VHS LOL
There was also a cartoon called "the Archies"
My favorite Monkees song was I’m a Believer. I was in 6th grade when it was a hit. (I had a huge crush on Davey Jones.) Every Friday night we would go to the ice skating rink and they would play this song for a “couples only” skate. I’d get to hold hands with my boyfriend while we skated around the rink. There’s something about the way young love feels at age 12 that you can never recreate. “I’m a Believer”always brings me back there. Good memories.
Michael Nesmith, the guitarist in this vid, created what became Mtv
No way what?
@@fu6817 Michael Nesmith pitched a music video TV show called Pop Clips to network TV execs in 1979. A pilot was made, and one of the Nickelodeon execs liked it and picked it up. They shopped it around and wanted to expand it to an entire channel and approached Nesmith to be the creative director, but he didn't like the people involved, so he sold the idea instead. That was what became MTV.
@@fu6817It’s true
Yup, I read that, too. He was my favorite Monkee and definitely had the "smarts"!
Didn't know that. His mother invented liquid paper (correction fluid, Tipp-Ex, whatever you want to call it!), so talented family
I’m 68 and this has brought back so many memories. Used to love the antics of the Monkees in their TV show. The singer is David Jones, is the only Englishman in group. ❤️
Davey Jones
68 here too. I really liked the part when they flew off of the balcony. I think it was in the closing part. One of my favourites is, 'Shades Of Gray'.
It makes my soul smile to see someone loving The Monkees. I discovered them back in the 80's in middle school and my Mama surprised me and my BFF with tickets to their reunion concert. This song never fails to make me happy. Glad to see their legacy living on! Awesome reaction!
That was also my first concert! I went with my bestie & her parents. We had so much fun!
The Monkees was a TV show. These guys were actors auditioned for the roles. Two were also musicians. They didn't write any songs. All improved their musicianship and went on to tour together for years.
Songs of my childhood. So fun to revisit them.
I saw them in concert several times, the last in Clearwater, FL a few years ago. It was a superb concert. Their TV show in the 60's was fire. This is just good old fashion music of happy days. My favorite Monkee song, Last Train To Clarksville
Thanks Pegasus....Have a Monkee filled day. Monkees forever....at least on Saturday mornings!!!
It used to be on around tea time so we used to rush home from school to watch.🇬🇧
I absolutely fell for Davey back in the day 😂 Daydream Believer is one of my favorite 😍
The singer is from England in an American band.
And Chrissy Hynde is an American sing in an English band. The Pretenders lol
Peter and Davy both from Manchester:)
Love the Monkees!!!! Seen several concerts back in the day!!! Put on a show for sure!!😊
Im not your steppin stone
That's Davey Jones❤ Peter Tork on the piano, Mike Nesmith with guitar and Mickey Dolenz with tambourine he played the drums too ❤️💕💖💖 LOVE MY MONKEES!!!!!!!!!
"I'm a Believer" was made famous by the Monkees, but it was written by Neal Diamond.
I grew up loving the Monkees and their TV show. They knock spots the modern groups and they didn't even start off as a group. Thanks for videos like this it not only brings back memories, they're so young and typified the spirit of the decade. Oh how I wish I had a time machine.
"The shaving razor's cold, and it stings"
One of my most favorite bars of all-time!!! 😃
A simple song that makes you smile and think.
I was in love with the Monkees back in the 70s!! Used to watch their tv show on a black and white tv too, lmao! Those were the days!! ❤
I'm 63 now, but boy this brings back memories. I can't believe you are even listening to this
Now go watch a couple of Guns N Roses videos from back in the day - I was always amused by how Axl seemed to have "borrowed" Davy Jones' dancing style. LOL. I do love The Monkees, I was never a Beatles fan but when I discovered these guys as a teenager in the 80s, I fell in love!
Funny you should say that!😊Davy Jones said that Axl Rose stole his dance and Justin Beiber stole his haircut 😂

Fun Fact:
The Monkees was a TV show. The 4 actors had little background in music and played a band in the show. At the beginning, but as the show got bigger, The 4 actor's started to play music better and became a true band.
Another fun fact:
At a party, were members from The Monkees and other bands, including The Beatles, got together with other people in Hollywood.
At one point, John Lennon was over heard talking to Peter and Davie Jones, saying that, "The Monkees at the Marks Brothers of The Beatles".
Pretty sure Peter and Michael were musicians
My mum's teenage crush was Davy Jones, when she passed we played this at her funeral. My friends who were there to support me were confused af when everyone started happily singing along drenched in tears. To this day I can't hear this song without happy crying.
few fun facts about the monkees
the Monkees were originally a fictional band created for the NBC sitcom The Monkees, which aired from 1966 to 1968. The band members were cast to play the parts of a band, and the group's music was featured on the show and released on singles and LPs.
The Monkees went on to become a real band, writing, recording, and performing. They became one of the best-selling acts in popular music history. Here are some things to know about the Monkees:
Producer Bob Rafelson created the concept for the band based on his own experiences as a musician. The band members were chosen through a casting call and had to learn to work together as a band.
Their early music
Before 1967, the band's songs were mostly written by outside producers and played by studio musicians, with the band members mainly providing vocals.
Their live performances
The Monkees' live shows were innovative for the time, using film clips and images to accompany their performances.
Their relationship with The Beatles
The Beatles liked The Monkees and let them participate in some of their sessions
Jack Nicholson had a hand in writing and producing the Monkees feature film, “Head.”
I watched every episode of their show, more than once. Loved it!!
this show was part of my childhood in the 60s
Me too! Brings a lot of memories back❤
I remember watching the Monkees TV show, they were hilarious. Davy Jones the singer, Mickey Dolenz on the Tamborini, Mike Nesmith on the Guitar, and Peter Tork on the piano, and they were always monkeeing around.
LOVED THIS SONG SINCE I WAS A KID IN THE 70'S ...CLASSIC.
Remember in1972 Davey J was Marshas date on the Brady Bunch and he sang this song?
One of my favorite bands back when I was a teeny-bopper! Along with the Herman Hermits, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Dave Clark Five, Beatles, Turtles, and many others!
I had the biggest crush on Davy Jones in the early 70's. He appeared, as himself on a Brady Bunch episode and sang the song, "Girl". My heart melted. I've love the Monkees ever since.
I am right there with you!
Me too!!!!❤
The Monkees are icons.
You cannot listen to this and not become happy! This really made me smile.
OMG. What a throw back! Thank you for your reactions. Brings me back to youthful memories.
This would be one of my favourite songs from the 60s! Just SO GOOD!!!
The Beatles song that would trump this one is "Come Together". You will love it as it is your vibe for sure. With that said i absolutely love Daydream Believer and The Monkees in general... absolute legends!
My aunt bought me that record when it was released in the 60ies. I still have it ... I love that song!
This might be the happiest song ever written. If you're listening to this and you're not happy and tapping along, then you're really down.

I remember watching the reruns! As a child then when I was older during the MTV Monkees marathon in 1986 during their 20th anniversary.
one of mine too - with MJ being my very first TV crush I even wrote the Monkees and got so upset when I found my cousin didn’t send it
Simple happy hopeful songs and yes, a unique voice which you instantly recognise.
A fun TV show from the 60s. They were put together for the TV show but did all their performing. They toured for yrs after the show ended. Fun story. Jimi Hendrix's first tour was with the Monkees. They had to let him go because he was scaring the kids who went to see the Monkees. They have several more hits to choose from
More than several! I got a best of cd and knew about 20 songs×
