Learning to make fire using primitive methods is fun if you know the basics. I was taught by two friends who worked in and continue to work in wilderness therapy, teaching kids primitive survival skills who had to gain fire making success to eat warm food on a daily basis for months at a time.
You really put it in perspective....simple instructions not hard to follow. Great video, I gotta give that a try.
I did it with the Stodoys plans.
Ive got bowdrill down for a few years now, I need to try the notchless one.
And thank you for sharing!
great instructional video!thanks Steve!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Nice
Thanks for watching Jason!

I’m a aspiring pyromaniac😅 lol ! Thanks for your knowledge. I have a question, what is the basic premise softer wood for spindle? Hard wood for the base ? What are the best woods to work with if you had your wish?
I'm told that Cottonwood is the best 👍😎
@@fireboxstove probably for spindle no? I also hear yucca but I just don’t see it. I mean it’s soft as heck but
This the best video by far I have seen on How to: Bow Drill Fire. I like the part about using the dust to help ignite the fire. Thanks.
Thank you for your complement Mr Walker!
I'mma push a little harder, go a little faster.
I've never attempted a bow drill fire, you certainly make it fun.
looked perfect to me.
Thanks Don! Give it a try, it really is a lot of fun and quite fulfilling on an instinctual or primitive level. I don't know how to say it, but it just feels good to make fire without technology
I'm doing one of these in Boy Scouts, is there anything I need to know?
Use the right woods. Non Resinous. Have someone who has experience confirm That the wood you are using will work. Then have the boys try. Using the wrong wood is the most common mistake.
I remember my Father starting a fire like that when I was a boy. I thought. how cool was that!
It is such a cool thing to learn and master. I am glad you have that memory, they are the best in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Steve! Just a thought---whenever its windy and I have to grind up material, or even when I'm using any fine tinder, I lay down 2 or 3 strips of duct tape, and put my fine tinder on that. Holds the tinder very well, and the tape burns as well!
Thanks for the tip Paul!
I will burn down my house for the insurance money now thanks 👍🏻
Lol don't do that.
Took long to blow that nest.... Too much d u s t... 😁 Good video thanks
Do you use soft or hard wood?
I wouldn't base it off soft or hard wood but whether the wood is resinous or not. Pine is full of resins so you won't be able to use it, you will want to use non resinous woods.
Amazing video!!!✨ Thank you!
Thank you for watching!!
What coal?
Noted.
That was fun. Great vid. Built everything but the hearth board yesterday so today is the big day! I've been meaning to do this for years...
Awesome! Thank you for watching!
How long does it take to make a fire this way ?
With some practice you could get a fire going this way in 5 or 10 minutes consistently.
@@fireboxstove thank you 👍
Hi Firefox stove, is it okay if I use your video for a speech that I have coming up?
Mainwarudo Kohna sure! Help yourself.
Firebox Stove Thank you. I appreciate it and I'm sure my audience will appreciate it too.

очень грамотный подход насчет пыли из сухой травы! класс!
Thank you!
How did you make your hand bearing Firebox?
I used a wooden knob from the hardware store and a thrust bearing special ordered from a bearing supplier 👌
@@fireboxstove very cool. That definitely gives me some ideas thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Very nice.
I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting!
I can't find the right wood haha
It can be a challenge. Do you have willow around?
FireboxStove willow trees?
I think willow trees or just the willows that grow near streams, cottonwood, juniper, sagebrush.
