THANK YOU for creating this educational and simple video. My bank offers this virtual card as a benefit. But, the bank failed to explain exactly how to use it. The bank failed to explain the definition. Thanks for helping me to learn about this.
i did not know you could put something else for big bank to see if you want to keep your purchase private thank you for the knowledge. miss Naomi is always so well put together.
NO! if you cancel a virtual card because you cannot efficiently cancel a subscription then SOME providers will build up a debt for you to pay - even if you don't USE the service. Then a year later you get a HUGE menacing bill for your debt AND the services of a debt collection agency. That is where it is handy that the provider does not have your real details.
A long time ago a door to door salesman questioned why I was reluctant to give his "company" my credit card details over the phone. He said nobody can misuse the information. Oh really, I said. Should I put out all my savings on the front doorstep before bedtime and just hope it will be there the next day? He claimed it was not like that, but he couldn't explain why not. I still maintain that it is. I once went abroad and a checkout operator asked for my card. She said I didn't need to enter my PIN and they didn't even give a receipt. So they only needed the card number which they then had on record. Should that make me feel secure?
As a PCI QSA I can say this is the best way to use CC or a Bank provided Payment Card from Customer standpoint to defend against Card Not Present Transactions.
Leonardo DiCaprio (Frank Abernathy) cameo @ 2:38 LOL. NB, I'm one who avoids rewards programs to the point of cancelling my Visa Classic when it changed to a rewards card fully aware of the credit history hit. That's one thing about one-time or limited use virutal cards that should be mentioned is that they will not gain you credit history.
If you use a credit card, the bank and the government already have an overview of all your transactions, and you're also spreading your personal information across countless websites. If you use a virtual credit card, you limit that risk. This is not a tool for anonymity from the government, if you want that then privacy coins and cash are the only options.
Like your video as always. However, I hoped you would give us some details about different providers. Maybe next time ;) I never understood/never going to understand the creditcard obsession in US. I wasn't aware of it when I visited the states more than ten years ago. Those two month were quite a journey without creditcard. The only reason for me getting one a year ago was for buying things outside my country online. Therefore, I am glad for having such possibilities like online prepaid creditcards. Still not as good as cash, but it hides my information and does brake the surveillance chain of my bank. Creating onetime cards is also a neat feature.
For sure, I didn't want to dive into products that I hadn't personally used, and I didn't want to make it seem like an ad for the one I did use, but doing a video that compares them is definitely a great idea and I'll add it to the list!
You need to bank online to get a virtual cc #. I never bank online, because if my account is accessed online, I know it's not me. Research who you are buying from. learn about "who is" searches
this ability to use virtual credit cards needs to be adapted in some way to gas station pumps in the US. my card has been skimmed a few times at gas stations, and had to change card numbers because of that. how would this work?
