"Sweet Caroline" was adopted by the Boston Red Sox baseball team about 20 years ago.

Neil Diamond transcends. Even as a teen in the 80s, I knew all his songs. I used to tease an older friend of mine gently for her crush on Neil Diamond, but I would always sing along when she'd put on an album. I never heard anyone ever diss Neil Diamond. Even the old punks, metal heads and new wavers knew all his songs and liked them.

Mom began listening to the pop/rock stations I would tune the radio onto, and she loved Neil Diamond, her name was Carol, and this became her song. One of my favorite singer songwriters spanning many decades. I had so many of his records. He had tons of hit songs. "Cherry, Cherry", "Kentucky Woman", "Red Red Wine", "Solitary Man", "Sweet Caroline", "Holly Holy", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Song Sung Blue", "Longfellow Serenade", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". One of my favorites is "I Am, I Said" which is almost an autobiography of his life & fame. He wrote the song "I'm A Believer" which became a big hit for the Monkees in 1966. I was privileged to see him in concert twice. He was a great showman & his live performances were memorable.

We would visit my grandparents every summer on their farm in the Midwest. As we drove away they would stand outside their home and wave goodbye until our station wagon was only a speck and I would be waving too outside the back window. My big grandpa who had carried a newly birthed calf from a back pasture likes small basket the day before had tears on his face as he waved to me. This song was playing on our car radio...WHO Does Moines. I tear up everytime I hear it, grandpa lived to 95 years. He was the wisest and gentlest man.
    Thanks for playing this.

Became Neil Diamond's signature song. H at one point. However as a musician, this is on the "most requested songs to the point where it becomes nauseating" list. Every one just wants to sing the Chorus, esp when drunk as hell. They sing "Sweet Caroline" on the third line of the Chorus because they don't even know the words, which is "I've been inclined." The original version here is fine, but not with the drunken crowds being idiots. They don't even know what their singing or what the song was originally about. It's like being in an musical insane asylum.
