This movie is the closest we get to an Blockbuster Warhammer Movie adaptation. Especially after he said these 2 lines, I was like "Yup, Ok. In the Grim Dark Future...."
After watching Part 2 this year, I realized-or at least considered-that some of these scenes are actually from what would be Part 3. There are hints, especially in the scene over Caladan with him and Chani. Part 3 visions.
Has anyone done "what if" type stuff for Dune? I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Paul went with Jessica's wish to use smugglers to escape Arrakis and get back to Caladan instead of staying with the Fremen.
@@eXcommunicate1979 I'm not sure that's the case. Geidi Prime has always been the Harkkonen homeworld, even when they were placed in charge of Arrakis. Just as the Emperor always has Salusa Secundus as his homeworld, but that's not the entirety of his "lands." The Atreides move to Arrakis only because they need to personally take command of the situation. That was the only way the Emperor and Baron Harkkonen could get everyone off Caladan and kill the whole family in one fell swoop. But don't take my word for it, I'm an internet stranger!
Considering the neo-feudal precedent of the setting, they would have escaped and lived as nobility in exile. (Caladan was no longer under their control after their move to Arrakis.) Without any meaningful power of their own they would drift between the courts of sympathetic houses, trying to curry favor and support while evading assassination. They would pose little threat without attaining military backing, which would be nigh-impossible thanks to the divided self-interests of the Lansraad, and the political and economic manuverings of the Harkonnens and Emperor.
@@nk3670 how would paul's destiny/abilities factor into all of that though? and his sister would still be born. it seems like even in that less than ideal setting, the galaxy would still end up as an Atreides playground or would none of that be possible without spice/fremen/etc.?
@@sharpnova2 Arrakis is critical to every aspect of Paul's rise. The sandworms fuel his precognitive abilities, and the Fremen are the galaxy's dark horse unstoppable warriors, utterly destroying the elite Sardaukar. On his own, Paul could be a thorn in the side of his foes, but never a real threat. With a House behind him, he could be dangerous. But with control of both sandworms and the Fremen, the Empire is at his mercy.

IIRC, Caladan wasn't even under the control of the Atreides anymore after they moved to Arrakis.
