- The Gifford Pinchot Wilderness is pretty much heaven on earth.
I'm excited to announce that Ali and I are riding across the USA! We're riding Trek's new gravel bikes, the Checkpoint, and the goal is to take the road less traveled in search of great people and inspiring stories. Besides profiling the wonderful people along the way, we'll be asking everyone for LOVE advice. Our route will take us from Oregon to New York and WE WANT YOU to help out. If you have any ideas of places to visit, friends to meet, or burritos to eat, find us on social media and point us in the right direction.

Thanks everyone for watching our series and sending good vibes. I typically respond to every comment on my channel, but I'm so busy pedaling, eating and editing. Just want you to know how much I appreciate it! Stay tuned for more...
Ryan Van Duzer i need this life and a nice off grid but have wifi
Can you share that route from Portland to White Salmon?
I love Ryan's childlike enthusiasm
Thanks
Beautiful touring video. The talk about love in the end was unexpected but very nice.
Thanks, we rode across america talking about love the entire way. Cheers!
Ali is such a trendsetter with the sandals and socks! The open road, bean burritos, and bikes. The best thing ever!
Much better than Netflix this channel!!!
That means a lot to me, thanks!!
Never seen two better matched people. Power to you both.
this is a surprisingly validating series. and thx for showing Ali in the lead so much, I can't think of many series where the female gets to lead the adventure when in mixed company!
My wife and I think is a way for him to provide some protection for her (as in traffic from behind). If we walk near a road I always walk between the traffic and her.
Freaking hill. What a place to have your house. That friend of yours has views for days! Very cool
It’s a sweet spot!
Such a wonderful series! Thank you for making your adventure OUR adventure too! I really enjoy how you engage the strangers and friends into conversation about love, fantastic! safe travels!
7:23 was that what I think it was hahahaha you guys are awesome bro.
i think it was !!!
Simply amaaaazing - everything that was captured in this video is beautiful and like a good book, beautifully unfolding....thanks U 2🌮👍
Beautiful
Good advice Skip.. Keepsafe...
Skips house looks stunning!!!
Ali, I am osteopath and keen cyclist and my tip for your knees is stretch. Quads, hams and calf muscles each stretch for 30 seconds (15 easy 15 a little harder) and this will help. My knees aren' t good (too much high intensity training when younger) and stretching still works for even though my knees reach 60 yoa next year. Good luck and enjoy. PS use small gears and "twiddle" up hills!
i hate having to ride on the road, or next to for extended periods, gets my good bike feeling going bad sometimes.. love Washington state. mount rainer, surrounding areas, so pretty. glad to see the videos, enjoy and stay safe.
Absolutely superb you two. Thank you for sharing.
WOW!!! Thank you for sharing. Glad you have found someone that shares your interest. Looks like your all having a great time.
This was so uplifting! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the message, I hope I can say thank you to the food truck for you and tell the owner of the food truck that we appreciate him and to make sure he knows that there are going to be more riders coming by and his truck, his business will make a big difference in this world and to keep selling his great food with passion because we all appreciate him. Thank you food truck guy
God bless the food truck guy!
I have been absolutely loving every video you have put out. I could ask a thousand questions. So just one. How? No matches no lighter?
Such joyfull videos, thanks. Every one makes me smile and inspires me to ride my bike more.
I got the feels watching this! Beautiful scenery, lovely company & your good friends are Alanis and Ryan Gosling 😄 My only hesitation about touring in the PNW would be encountering mountain lions & bears 🥺
Edit: Forgot to say thanks for sharing your adventures with us ☺️
Haha!! That’s kinda true, they do look like them ;)
You are now in the “evergreen state “ and we can tell that’s true!!
Loving it!!
Lmao, I can see my house in the background from Skip's.
sooooo nice
I absolutely loved this one, Ryan. You and Ali are cute. Your friends are awesome. And you brought back the happy dance!
Let me guess: You were fighting about beans.
No firestarter? Bold. I am always amazed you do not carry a small stove - even a Solo. Cold beans...
Can't wait to watch this video, so glad you posted this on my birtday😄😄😄
행복해 보입니다. 미국 자전거 횡단을 준비 중입니다. COVID-19 시국에도 말이죠 !!
I’m loving the videos and looking forward to seeing the next 3000 miles worth. Great amount of smiles 😊
My home state! You're going through Bigfoot Country out there. :) My cousin lives in Murdock, WA, just across the river from The Dalles, OR and near Lyle, WA.
yeah ...I wish ..beautiful !
Great series Ryan and Ali!! 🙂 I hope each and every day are blessed!!
What a wonderful video. Thank you guys!
Ali's brand new bike broke? Wow, how many miles on it? I love watching your videos..
not the bike, just the derailer. it just happens sometimes. Just like an alternator or battery going out on a car.
When you’re enjoying the ride sort of forgetting it’s a video and an ad pops up
Wow! That is such a beautiful route! Glad you guys are enjoying yourselves! Keep safe!
Glad Ali got her bike fixed! Beautiful forest! Wish I lived near your route, I would have loved to have hosted you guys! Keep on keeping on!
What were you guys doing at 7:23?
I love watching your videos and took some tipps as well.. Keep it up..
Nice videos, you have many good energy :) greetings from Poland
Thanks buddy! Greetings from Colorado
Man, I love this series! Thank you! Wishing you both tons of blessings and good vibes.
sometimes people just have too much time to waste by fighting on things that really not matter, no one is perfect so I suggest count to ten and stop wasting time, LIFE IS GOOD....AND SMILE MORE.
You guys are adorable!❤
Margie Cardoza awww, thanks.
Great ride! 🚴♀️🚴🌮🥰
So beautiful!
I loved this video. I mountain bike up there all the time! I am really enjoying watching the series. Great job!
Ryan, this is awesome!!! I’m about to take my first Bike tour to visit a friend in Potsdam, NY!! Thank you !!!
its nice when you are getting Love advice from Ryan gosling 😊😍
haha
Love the video guys. Awesome energy, loved the train bit!
Thanks! Trains are my fav...next to bikes
Nice tour clear view
Thanks!
That is a unwrapped buritto, RVD 😜👍 thats okay awesome video
haha
Fun video. What a great ride. What's a 1000 feet climb. Helps you get ready for the big climbs ahead. LOL. Enjoy.
Wonderful. Thanks a lot for the video!!!!
Wow u guys are such an awesome inspiration
Both of you are doing a great job with this video. Fun stuff!
Kinda feel like you need to FLEE! I know this feeling, biking can be so tranquil... and then you run into a bunch of traffic😬.
I would take love advice from this couple before I would from the last couple 🤷🏻♂️😎
Duz I’ve seen you jump bigger gaps than that road washout... just E.T. That shit !
It was a trip seeing you go over the 205 bridge as I ride that often. I’d be interested in the trail info as it looks beautiful to ride in the Gifford pinchot forest
If there any chance you can send me the route, I really want to bike in this area! Thanks guys, love the video
I would also like that rout info, for when i visit family in Portland.
Alon Knaan ya I’m hoping he will post his entire route as he goes and not just at the end
I'll post route into when I get a free second, currently riding and editing (and eating) takes up all my time! Thanks for watching Alon!
"Huge fight, brought the energy down" ??? Ryan, you be nice to Ali!
I will, I promise! We'll address all this in a later episode
NO VIOLENCE !! Hug it out !!!!
This hurts
Love this channel so much
So amazing! =)) Love to watch this now when we are going to honeymoon on tandem bike that's made for us. :D And socks in sandals is a thing in Finland. XD
This is so awesome! Way to live the dream!
Great video... keep on sharing thanks
nice vlog buddies... im love bike touring too
Dude the bridge you guys where on is I-205 connects from Portland to Vancouver off of mill plain I’ve hit that strip 1 time
Ps I-205 is always that noisy and you guys hit the light traffic
it was crazy!!
You guys should’ve hit I-5 during rush hour it’s crazier then 205 on smaller bridge but I’ve hit it a few times and it still connects from Vancouver to Portland but it’s on the west side of Portland
So proud of you two!
have you thought about getting Ally on some flat bars and a stem that gets her more upright. This will take the pressure of f of her neck.
Ryan an Ali, very excited to view your adventure as it progresses this summer. Without sounding too cheesey (I'm in Wisconsin) the two of you appear to have the "right stuff" to make it across the USA and remain on speaking terms when you reach the Atlantic, Do you intend to camp across the west and warm showers your way from the Mississippi east? You are more than welcome to park yourselves and bikes in Central WI anytime you want. awaiting episode 4
Great video Ryan/Ali...its a perfect trip! ☺️
James Leow thanks James! We think it’s perfect too!
Yea! another Trip!!
Hey Mr. Ryan Van Duzer... i’m just leaving Saint Helens now headed to White Salmon… Thinking of you and Ally… But we’re going to go down the gorge instead since the road you took wouldn’t work with my truck… LOL… thought of a great T-shirt for you… It says…Billy Idol says… It’s time to wake up!… I’d buy that shirt…! Have a great day bro!
I like that idea! Love me some Billy Idol
Nice video
Here's what route I *think* they took:
up route 503 from Vancouver up to Amboy and Chelatchie.
Crossed the Lewis River between Lake Merwin and Yale Lake.
Went upstream along Yale Lake to Cougar.
Continued upstream along Swift Reservoir to Northwood where you crossed the Lewis River to the south side again
Camped out in Curley Creek area next to the Lewis River
Next day, you went up Curley Creek Road
At the intersection of FS Road 30, you headed south to Carson, WA, up and over Oldman Pass.
You found a taco wagon at the lumber mill.
Pro tip: If you have more time, the Lewis River upstream on the Lewis River Trail from Curley Creek is simply beautiful to mountain bike on. There are also a wonderful set of waterfalls that are, well, beautiful.
That “Im a softy” at the end. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ new subscriber here!
Awesome!!
Komoot is nice for nav and allows downloading offline maps. Good luck!
hey ryan. what a beautiful area!! if you already know this then please ignore the following... how to make google maps available offline:
-drop a pin in the google maps app.
-look for the "download" button.
-center and scale the map
-select download.
-done
oh man. that's a great tip! I'll be using it myself. thx.
I think what happened was that they forgot to do that while they had internet access and realized their mistake when they were in the middle of nowhere.
Wish I had a bike shop like that near my area...
You guys look happy and all,
But you’ll be braking up sometime soon🌞
thanks for sharing. You both send your happiness all the way to germany :)
Good luck guys
Great video, for me its quite inspirational, but its rather impossible to do a bicycle tour that safe in my country, but I do love cycling and looking forward to being able to do a bicycle tour.
harrygustiana Panghegar where do you live? I hope you can do a tour someday
@@duzer I am from westJava, Indonesia, the density of traffic, even in the country side is horrifying, except in sumatra, kalimantan and sulawesi islands they arent as crowded as the java island
wow!! Traffic is a cyclists worst nightmare. be safe
@@duzer thanks ryan, always
I would say love has seasons so be prepared to fly that airplane through a snow storm.
Ryan take your phone alarm up a couple notches with the Real "Mony Mony" Tommy James and the Shondells circa 1969, a groove often copied but never duplicated. Slow dance with a hot number? "Crimson and Clover" will get you to second base in a hurry. I look forward to Episode 4 and keeping us in the know!
If your using google maps, just download the offline maps for your area before loosing signal.
G'day, Ryan and Ali! Sorry but I've only just 'found' you on yr great ride. I watched some of Ep. 13 and now 3. Have read some of the comments below; gee, there are some aggro people out there. We Aussies tend to be more easy-going than that. I would have been a little peeved re the front derailleur problem but, as you said, the bikes got knocked around on the plane, so no real surprise when the derailleur failed. Anyway, I look forward to catching up with more of your adventure and I hope to do some bike touring again before too long. (Last one was in '79, or was it '80?)
Awaiting next episode...
ryan, you eat to many suspect burritos, my wife would make me sleep far away from the tent. and pack a lighter or two or three or four.
I'm glad you're wearing helmets and sunscreen but those wire frame sunglasses will put an eye out if you crash. Sorry to be a downer but that's true.
You're such a great videographer!
you guys ROCK!
Love Steve!
So on the third day you have to replace the front derailleur on a new Trek bicycle? That's not so good but hopefully now all will be well. Lovin' the ride ;
The front derailleur was bent when we shipped the bikes to Oregon...
Doh ;
Hey Duzer, On this trip did you go up through Vancouver Camas and up the washougal river headed east to White Salmon?
I’m just on the other side of the Columbia River from Washougal.
From what I see of Ally's riding; her saddle is a too high by the position of her leg and foot when flush to the ground; she needs to bring her saddle down a tad.
omg yes!!!
I thought the same, makes me uncomfortable to watch her, but the videos are great.
no fires in evening and no cooking in evening on a log fire with a glass wine ..... just kills the vibe .... food is rank
Nice video......beautiful country; loaded with plenty of A.L.B's (Alien Landing Bases!!) hahahahah!
Aliens everywhere!!!
group Hug thats awesome
