  • As a follow on from the bi fold door installation video we are now fitting a window with opening sash.
Aluminium as this is all we fit.
Same procedure, fit the cill correctly and the rest will be easy.
Water runs down so make sure you damn it properly.
    Many thanks

This guy is not a window fitter ( loudest gasp noise ever ) lol, but take it from someone with 23 years experience as a carpenter, you genuinely wont find a better more geniune or realistic video on how to fit a window on the web. Liam covers every aspect needed and the fact he shows how to do it in the real world when temperatures are near freezing and it honestly feels like your fingers belong to your neighbour is refreshing. (To many videos on here with premeditated perfect conditions and really teach us nothing other than (our tools are inadequate)
His mitre saw could of been any mitre saw with correct blade and other than a few packers and a drill , job done to as good (in fact better) than most fitters I've seen. The laser level trick for plumbing the windows is so simple but effective especially when working alone.great work keep them coming.

Very detailed video, enjoyed watching this. On white frame I pencil in T,B, R, L on the glazing bars so I now which way they go back in. Masking tape is useful as well. I would put the top beading in first, that way the glass has some security until the others are fitted. Fitted a lot of aluminium windows last year in my own house, but they came ready glazed, so don't need to mess around with all the locking system. I've started to used the impact driver less now and just prefer using a drill driver which gives more control and over tightening.

Love the channel mate, and this is a great video/tutorial. You have framed the windows the same way I do, and I have a quick question (if you've got the time!). In the US it's common practice to put flexible flashing barriers (basically rubber sticky tape!) Around the window reveals and corners. I've almost never seen this done in the UK. Is it something you think is unnecessary or just that we haven't caught up yet?

I ordered my DTD171 from Tokyo, Japan on Ebay before they came out in the UK (for half the price they now cost in UK). Got mine in a "Brown" colour rather than Makita "Teal" that way I can easily identify mine out on site. Also bought a couple of thinner Makita 2 amp/hr batteries (BL1820B .... really difficult to get hold of), to make it even more compact & fitted a Makita 12v Impact Driver Belt Clip as original one stuck out below thinner battery ;-) Hope that helps :-)

Look for a reasonable priced one and mostly it's "free postage", & I don't mind waiting a few weeks for it to arrive. AvE ( I think based in Canada), did a comparison of a Japanese market .vs. Everywhere else same impact drivers & he concluded that the Japanese market ones were far superior in attention to detail (better solder joints, build quality, machined .vs. powder metal parts etc.). Also, currently you can get a "Yellow" Makita DT172 Impact Driver that looks at first glance, like a Dewalt 😉 Not too bothered who in Japan I order them from (my last two came from Tokyo), as I find the Japanese super reliable and trustworthy 😃 Hope that helps 😉
