    I like how Britta has this image of coolness she have created in season 1 but it quickly came to shambles as an act she was giving to world, people say she lacks depth but this is the depth we were talking about in her character, she then becomes self aware of her charade and later tries to grow more while still having bits of her pro anti belief, that really is realistic as a human being.

      The pilot is genius, you get this impression of Troy and Britta being these stereotypes. Troy the too cool for school brash jock, who opens up his more creative and imaginative side with Abed. And Britta. She's set up to be the hot sassy love interest of Jeff that's going to play too hard to get. But ends up as a down on her luck, social justice warrior, still getting with the program slowly

      I feel like there's someone for everyone to latch onto, that the characters (for the most part) do show show a lot of diversity and variety in backgrounds and personality. Both Britta and Abed ive found to be the most relatable, but of course, which characters you relate to change based on your personality of course

    • @user-ck9lm6xi1o
      @user-ck9lm6xi1o 3 года назад +10

      Well put! I'm also in the minority of fans that like her change. Not simply because it's hilarious (she sometimes plays the role of Pierce, which is hilarious), but because she's so real. Many of the other characters (like Annie) evolve so much that their quirks shed all of the cons they had before. But Britta remains a flawed individual even as she grows. In real life, rarely do we flawed individuals change so much that you might call us "fixed". We retain our peccadilloes even through growth.

    • @jamescopland2649
      @jamescopland2649 3 года назад +13

      @@user-ck9lm6xi1o Agreed! For me I found Britta to actually be the most relatable character in the show. She allowed herself to be vulnerable and stand up for herself and I respected that even if she didn't always have the conviction to follow through. Britta always means well and pretends that she has all the answers (as we all do at times) but is honest and reflective enough with herself to acknowledge that she doesn't really know what she's doing. Also, just because a period of time has gone past doesn't mean that you have to dramatically change. Sometimes in life you try to change and improve but all you end up doing is amplifying your existing qualities and flaws and that's okay. Maybe you've not changed, you've just used that time to understand who you are a bit more. Anyway, she's the realest character that there is and I love her.

    I remember on my first watch of community I was absorbed with Allison Brie's beauty, but on my recent re-watch I was repeatedly thinking of how pretty Gillian Jacobs is. I wish her character was written to be more clever at times. I wanted her to outsmart Jeff more, but the writers leaned too hard into her being a stupid pseudo-intellectual. I really liked the way she looked at Troy; it seemed like it was really only reserved for his character.

      I think Britta in season 2 and 3 is the best written character in the show imo. Season 4 she was basically a side character more than chang, then when Harmon came back, it got a lot funnier again. But man, they made Britta unbelievably stupid in those last 2 seasons... They made her more reasonable with the mustard on her face joke for Meow Meow Beanz, but thats how she should have been for the last 2 season, not just one episode.

    She is the best. Despite they made her more of an exaggerated version of herself later on, her care, drive for her friends even if they ignore her, is very relatable and inspiring. And, she is actually a good psychiatrist. If you notice, she is eventually right at many occasions. I don’t see many actors maintain her fresh other than Gill tbh. She and Joel also had a great chemistry. Flow of the conversations were so smooth and fast. I am happy Britta was somewhat happy in the finale but I think she still deserves much better. I hope the movie will do her more justice.

She went from uncomfortable to be vulnerable with a massive wall up to the vulnerable but a person with good intentions but no proper direction to carry those intentions out. I never thought her character was funny but looking back at her scenes now u know u need her coz she is ridiculously funny- a humanitarian who is ridiculously funny.

      in what world are you living in that you think Britta 'wasnt funny'??? You just said you understand her neccessity to the show, which literally means you think she was funny... Also Gillian Jacobs was fucking hilarious, and the writing for Britta in season 2 and 3(and half of 5) was fantastic. Thats like saying Shirley isnt funny and you dont think shes funny because of the character flaws that make her interesting and make the story more interesting.

    I was rooting for Britta during this episode (14:14) . Abed has shown over and over again that he's sometimes way too obsessed and can't make rational decisions. Of course he's got Asperger so you can't be mad at him, but Britta was a good friend to Abed and I don't think she ever got the recognition she deserved.
    I'm also glad that Cinemameta cared to put emotional scenes showing Britta's worth.

    S:1, E:2 - Britta & Abed were my favorites throughout all 6 seasons. Even though we saw glimpes of her growth, we also see her backslide with poor choices we all can relate too. I like that she is an imperfect character trying to figure things out. I still love her because I know she has good intentions and cares deeply for the group, even though her passion & style of communication comes out a bit harsh sometimes. Overall, I think it is her & Abed that are the glue & heart of the group. I still wanted her character to be treated better by the male characters. I didn't like how she was ridiculed. I love that she connected with Shirley and found real female friendship she needed to help softing her edges. " She has always Pee'd alone."
    I love how Britta could always see right thru Jeff's intentions & his bull from the very beginning. His charming jibber-jabber & rhetoric had gotten him so far in life but wasn't working for Britta. He was attracted to her beauty at first but her total disinterest & rejection, was now a challenge for him to pursue. " Look Jeff, your harmless to me, but a life of up's & downs has given me Douche~ray vision, but those are good people in there, and they trust & respect you and watching you exploit them kinda bums me out.- Your cute, but selfish & Narcistic to the point of near delusion." I think Jeff liked that she actually saw who he was and he could stop pretending & begin to have honest friendships. If she had been easy in his pursuit, he would have been bored soon after getting what he wanted and would be an underdeveloped character. Britta helped Jeff start to grow from the first episode & he felt the need to prove her wrong & show her that he can care. Overall, every character on Community brought out the worst & best in everyone. They are looking in the mirror of life, & realization that shows who they truely are. They are able to see the faults, insecurities and facade that they had gone thru in life pretending to be. As a Community, they found true friendship & acceptance in each other, regardless of all the rejections that life dealt them. Throughout the 6 seasons they each always wanted the best for each other, and in that, they found the friendship & family they needed all along. I will be waiting to see how they have each evolved in "The Community Movie."
    *side note - I will never like the Annie/Jeff thing. It's just too icky seeing the older guy with the fantasy of getting the younger girl. This makes Jeff's character very gross & unattractive. I don't like that he can easily manipulate Annie's gullible, inexperienced youth, but it is so relatable in today's world, with the Me Too Movement brought to light. I think he only likes that Annie sees him better than he really is & feeds his EGO. Annie's immaturity is seen with her crush on Troy first & then later with Jeff. I don't like that her crushes seem to debilitate her true intelligence & decisions.
    You can tell this direction between Jeff & Annie's relationship was written from the male perspective. I really don't know why so many people want them together. It would be bad. Relationship growth would only be one sided. Annie feeding Jeff's Narcistic EGO would eventually make her bored of him. He could never could reciprocate the love she would need. I hope that they would grow more as friends and not in what would be a toxic & boring relationship. I just want all the characters friendships to endure.

    I’ve just finished the show for the first time and…I’ll be honest, I don’t understand all the hate Britta gets in the later seasons. Yes she’s a bit ditzy, erratic, impulsive, and needlessly political (sometimes more than a bit 🤣)… but she was ALWAYS like that, especially starting in the second half of S1 when she stopped being primarily focused on improving Jeff and keeping him at arm’s length and started opening up and being herself. I’d even argue that S2 Britta was the worst in this regard of being the caricature everyone hates. Even in S5 and 6 there are plenty of moments when the old Britta, the smart, common-sense, altruistic idealist, comes through. Britta is definitely my favorite character and the one I relate to the most.
