I drive a rolloff dumpster truck, and run over basketballs all the time (also soccer and volleyballs).. oddly, footballs dont wind up in trash piles very often

i used a push pump (an air pump that looks like a tnt detonator from the movies) on a soccer ball. i new it would explode but holy shit was it loud. not only did it fly all the way into someone else's yard, it also got the cops called on me because someone thought it was a gun shot. stay safe kids
THAT perception may be the most dangerous aspect of extreme inflation-to-POP. The interaction with law enforcement can be more unpleasant than the explosion itself, because anybody who does this will tend to exercise extreme caution.

The basket ball has the smaller volume, less stretch and the compressor only puts small squirts of air in at a time
