  • Nearly 75 percent of Leona’s stomach was pushing against her lungs and esophagus, making it hard for her to breathe or swallow. For 20 years, Leona had been told about her hiatal hernia. When she made the decision to take action, Dr. Adrian Park, chair of the Department of Surgery at Anne Arundel Medical Center, directed her to follow a rigorous diet and lifestyle change before going into surgery. Over 30 pounds lighter, and on the same year she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary, hear how surgery changed Leona’s life.

    I had the hiatal hernia surgery repair on 08/26/2021. For years I dealt with avid reflux, difficult swallowing, difficult breathing, feeling full after eating a small amount of food, trouble breathing, heart palpitations, no energy and the list goes on. Day two after the surgery and I can feel a huge difference in my ability to breath, and the feeling bloating and a surge of energy. I’m on bed rest and light duty activities for the next few weeks. But, I feel absolutely wonderful..

    I was diagnosed with a Hiatus hernia 2 years ago which I had from birth but it got worse overtime due to heavy lifting at my previous job.I am awaiting Laproscopy surgery.About 70 per cent of my stomach has pushed through and the chest pain (mimicking a heart attack which I have been rushed into hospital for on numerous occasions with the chest pain/ left arm radiating pain etc..), belching, bloating, acid reflux & food regurgitating is unbearable. I also get breathless very easy and I feel like I am choking in my sleep which wakes me up!. Oh and my ears get blocked also.I have been on 80mg of Omeprazole per day and Gaviscon Advance every day ever since for this issue and Gerd. I need to take this medication to stop heartburn and indigestion which gives me the pain I have mentioned, but if I stop taking it then the pain will come back. Its a catch 22!! I feel so depressed with it😢

    • @hammersmikey1739
      @hammersmikey1739 Год назад

      Hi there , I too have shortness of breath with a large hiatus hernia. I have posted a comment in the comment section so you can see all symptons. I get out of breath easy if i walk a few yards or if i do a basic chore around the house. Even if i bend down. Its a strange breathlessness because it doesn't feel like it's coming from my chest but coming from my belly instead. Just a deep breathing strange feeling. Can I ask if you have a bloated belly or do you get bloated easy??? As this is a majority contributer to the breathing struggles because when the belly expands it puts pressure on the stomach to move further up intonthe eusophagaus and that presses against your lungs

    I'm told my hiatal hernia is to small for surgery. I'm choking on liquid, puking if I bend over, major heartburn not controlled by meds, bloating so bad I feel like I can't get air,at least twice a week my chest feels so tight I wonder if I'm going to have a heart attack. Recently my upper stomach muscles feel sore, like I worked out to hard, I can no longer sit up normally. I roll sideways to get in a sitting or standing position. If the hernia is to small for surgery I shouldn't be experiencing these symptoms I would think. I suffered for a few years before going to a doctor. Now they know the cause but can't do anything about it. I'm doing a stomach empty test next month because of the bloating and acute pain attacks that last usually half a day but I'm guessing they won't be able to do anything about that either since it has nothing to do with a full or empty stomach. I'm 52 and can't work or enjoy retirement because I can't plan anything around my pain attacks, puking episodes or heartburn. I spend hours in the bath because it's the only way I can tolerate the pain. I feel like I'm missing out on my life!! Nothing to be done I guess

    I have a Hiatal hernia. I had TIF surgery & the Nissen fundoplication on Nov 18th 2021. It is now 4 months since the surgery. Sometimes if I eat pieces that are to big I will throw up. Because of this I had another swallow test. Nothing seems to be blocked & the radiologist said he didnt see any reflux so I wonder why I still have constant burning in my throat. What has been your experience with how long it takes for this burning to go away. I wonder if something else could be the issue? Thank you.
