Think it's a mix of people who always hated Bethesda games letting us know they still hate Bethesda games, PlayStation fans who are salty about Microsoft, and people who genuinely tried the game and didn't click with it. The first two groups making the last group seem larger than they actually are.
I will say the game didn't click with me at first because the intro is admittedly a bit weak and I was playing it more like how I would Skyrim or Fallout 3 with exploring around and looking at things. Once I got the beginning parts out of the way and started playing more like how I would Oblivion (focusing more on missions and questing than exploration) it was a lot more enjoyable, and now I'm hooked. Also took a bit to get used to the UI. The starmap in particular feels really clunky to navigate. I go to missions and jump to location as much as I can.

The overwhelming hate against this game is Bizarre. I'm such a sci fi nerd I've always said that if Starfield was just Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout re-skinned in space I'd be happy. And it basically is with more complexity. I think it's a case of expectations going out of control like with Cyberpunk (which is a great game now btw).

Thats reductive. Your describing a minority of criticism with a extremist group on one side of the argument for starfield. You have extreme sides, "game is 10/10 amzing" and "game is horrible and dogshit". It would be the same as me saying all the praise for the game is coming from BGS shills and people who blindly support the game and devs, thats dumb.
The only sensible place I have noticed where fans of BGS can discuss the faults and issues they have with Starfield without being met with complete disregard, is discord and sometimes reddit. People are actual able to have healthy discussions about what is wrong with the game, what is bad about the game, and what bethesda needs to improve on for their future games.
Starfield is a good enough game, I can shut my brain off and enjoy mindlessly shooting enemies and just running around. Sadly I couldnt keep playing mainly bc the gameplay for me is immersion breaking bc of all the load sequences and breaking of character control and gameplay, another thing was the amount of time I ended up wasting doing meaningless generic busywork quests that amount to nothing, i will wait for a mod that removes all planets that do not have a unique quest or character associated with them.
Lack of build diversity, lack of player choice and writing/dialogue is painful as well. Put all of those things together and unfortunately the game was just not fun to play moment to moment. This is also all fine criticism and not just blind hate because I like sony (I own a PS4 and Xbox 360, Play everything on PC).
Usually when this criticism gets brought up its met by people claiming your a sony fanboy, you expected a space sim, or that i expected something other than a bethesda rpg. If you even compare BGS games from the past to starfield it is a huge departure from a traditional Bethesda RPG. Anyway, the game is fine, its nothing exceptional, people can enjoy it well enough, it just bothers me when people refuse to discuss criticism about the game to encourage bethesda to do better, especially with ES6.

I hate it because it is so painfully safe and generic and risk adverse. The simple fact that it’s so “decent” is what makes it so awful imo. I’d much rather Bethesda have actually taken big risks with their new IP that ended up with very flawed results then just do the most cookie cutter possible “new” universe of a video game they could come up with. Starfield is basically the spaghetti and marinara sauce of video games: it’ll satiate your hunger and be rather tasty, but it’s totally devoid of spice or any other interesting ingredients.

I think it takes people 12 or more hours to get into the game because that's how long it takes to actually learn the game and it's mechanics. The gameplay loop and what it is you actually enjoy doing. There's so much to do and see, you are just trying to take it all in and figure it out. Once you are comfortable with all the systems. Maybe a few planet surveys, a small outpost, a bigger ship with more cargo space, a few skills for your build, a few side quests and an understanding of the large cities you then find your place and your role in the universe

Boom! ur thrown into a fight. 😅 (depending on the mission)
When the mission is over, you don't even have to enter your ship.. just open your map and fast travel to the next quest giver instantly. Which is terrible. It makes you feel like ur just going through quests from top to bottom. Therefore you don't run into many random events like skyrim 😕

Every planet, even the totally barren ones, have things to discover and find once you drop in. And many space areas have stray ships to scavenge, and dead space stations to explore and loot.
Just because the game gives you the massive convenience to quickly go all over the game (as an outpost builder i teleport around a ton) doesn't mean the only content is DIRECTLY at the fast travel location.

It’s either 2.5-3 second loading screens, or constantly squeezing through tight crevices or crawlspaces for the same amount of time hiding loading screens so I’m not upset the game loads often its massive as hell. And I hate shimmying through small spaces as like Kratos and shit so it’s really no different in my eyes.

False equivalency. Even with Bethesda's previous games, because of the structure, you don't encounter loading screens nearly as often. And there are lots of other modern games with massive areas with very little loading. This games loading zones and constantly having to jump into (poorly made) menus really are a bummer.

I wish it had better futuristic armor and weapons. Felt like just advanced NASA armor. Instead of a futuristic sci-fi. But it had a couple decent ones.
The story had an intriguing concept, but maybe fell a bit flat in practice. If the new game plus changed the story itself to a completely different ending with the "creators" they referenced that would have been a hell of a lot cooler. Or completely different game worlds in each new game.

How many spacecraft do you see flying around in our atmosphere? Spaceships are not designed for aerodynamics because there is no atmosphere in space, but for a plane, aerodynamics literally defines how it works. Spaceships are designed to get you from the ground to space and navigate space.

I'm going to say the "skybox" part of the game when you are in "orbit" is going to have to require you to suspend disbelief.
For example if you go into orbit around the moon, you will literally see an asteroid field, and there is none around Earth, in fact there is none anywhere near Earth. The asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter is actually not all that populated (how do you think they're able to send space probes at all??) and when you're in the middle of it, it will look like nothing but a black sky with nothing but a couple of dots here and there (the rocks are essentially thousands to millions of km apart).
But if they modeled space and orbital mechanics for real in any space opera game, well they are not going to be selling games, because space is boring, for real. They have a web cam on the ISS for everyone to see by the way... except there isn't much to see.

I now many disliked Nate and Nora's voices. I rather liked it, albeit that I too want to know what I'm about to say. That said, the Oblivion-Convo-Zoom like it is, is just terrible to me. It even cuts to center the next person speaking when they're right next to each other. Also, in a roleplaying game where my character is the protagonist, it is currently the only character that you will never see a close up of.
Then, I kind of like the empty planets and the feel of dead, empty loneliness on a planet. But once I see that, I don't want to see it again for ten hours. I certainly don't want to run around scanning a bunch of random things. As in: Find TEN different plants at eight scans per plant? Not counting the animals and the rocks? You mean, as a third of my survey mission I need to first find, then walk up to a plant and press E eighty times? On that one generic planet? And then find the same plants on the next planet? No, nooooo, no. no. Honestly? For a veteran developer like they are, they ought to be ashamed that made it in, and someone there approved it as entertainment. They could have kept this whole thing to a single solar system with various biomes and you wouldn't have missed a damned thing about it.

The modding with how much empty space they've provided is kind of a hard argument. On one hand, yeah, it can be said that they shouldn't leave that much just for the modding side to take it over. However, on the other hand, you could argue that the amount of content could have been relatively the same with a tenth of the planets, making the game feel less empty. That would technically fix, or at least help the issue, but it would give modders less space to work with. Is that, then, a bad game decision or is it just kind of in-advance preparation for side-content via mods?

  • @lucifer0247
    @lucifer0247 Год назад

I think I have to correct you in the meaning of Space travel/exploration. Its not true that it is a little skybox.
The Starsystems are actually there and you can actually travel between planets!
But, now the big Butt, your spaceship is really slow, there are people who already traveled from moons to planets or from one planets to another, both in vanilla time and with console commands to speed up the process. Planets are actual Spheres that also move according to the planetary cyclus! But Those Spheres have no real hitbox and you gonna glitch into them if you reach their surface lol.
Even the sun/Stars of the systems are there.
There is even a first mod that enables you to have higher speed with your ship (several times speed of light, etc.) without messing up the ingametime (if you did it via console and didnt extra set the speed of planets, they would have been faster too.)
That is only the first mod that tackles that issue, it is in the engine, the possibility is ib the game, your ship exists inside the Starsystem when you are in space. What we now need is creation kit and fine tuning for travel between planets (with existing mod u have to save and load when arriving at new planet, to have the game register ur actual position)

One small point I wanted to amend here-though this is a fantastic video-is that, when you’re in space, you’re not in a contained little area. You can, in fact, fly up close to the planets or fly out into space. The catch? It takes hours. I flew up close to the moon before hitting the “barrier,” and the moon became low res when up that close. It was amazing though to realize that the space is actual technically traversable space, and that the sense of scale is justifiably palpable.
