  • In addition to the items that in a pivot table's source data, you can create calculated items in a pivot table, by using formulas.
If you have two or more calculated items in a pivot table, there might be cells that are affected by multiple calculated items. This can cause problems, if the formulas are not solved in the order that you expected.
Watch this video to see how to create the calculated items, and change the solve order for them, so the results are what you expected.

When I use a calculated item for measuring growth percentage, it does so on the lowest level of rows and sums up the percentages. Is there any way to keep the calculated rows for only the top level rows?

You could turn off the subtotal rows, or use conditional formatting to hide those calculated numbers in the subtotals

So how would one force a solve order when you have a calculated item within a calculated field? The default is that it calculates the item before calculating the field (the stupidest way round, since it means that if the item calculation is based on other items within the field, then the values it is performing the calculation on are in a different field. It appears microsoft doesn't understand bracketing.)
