That thumb info is a gamechanger.
Very nice
Absolutely loved this video!!!! I'm sure I'll be watching it a lot more in the coming weeks/months
Good job. I really liked this!
Great video, can't wait to get back out on the practice range and work on these points.
Thank you very much
wow ok. mistake two might also be the reason for my thumb knuckle beeing damaged (healed more or less completely now) tried this in one training and it already helped holding more steady into gold. red button pressed!
This is very helpful
This is exactly what I have been looking for... I've been searching the internet on information about thumb pressure to no avail .
That's awesome, I'm glad it could help :)
Thank you man. You'll help me with my hand sliding when I hold the bow. Hello from Kazakhstan. You'll a best coach what I see

Thanks a lot :) Thanks for watching too!
Excellent video, thanks.
Thanks man, I appreciate it :)
This is what I am looking for thank you for sharing
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Sling too short can also interfere the clearance. When I tried wrsit sling I set it too short, I noticed the sling can exaggerate the side jerk if the release is not perfect
I come back to the video perodically as issues with my grip creep back in. Right now 1. is my problem.
my index finger knuckle is painful after practice, my thumb knuckle is normal. Is this normal, or am i putting unnecessary pressure on my pivot point? Thank you
Hi Tom, I have just reshaped my bow grip to push my hand into the right p9sition!👍👍👍👍👍😊
Needed this tidbit ( has a big bite)
Is there a video where you talk about where to rest your pinky on your drawback hand? I'm new and a few people have mentioned anchor points and where I rest my pinky is very good. Since they've mentioned it to me, my shooting has been more off/worse as I'm now consciously thinking about where it is and what it's doing whereas before I wasn't aware and doing something naturally correct. I hope this makes sense lol
No, I have no idea what a finger sling is or what it’s for. But otherwise, being totally new to archery and thirsty to learn, this is interesting and helpful.
I'll do a video in the future :)
@@OnlineArcheryAcademy THANKS!! And great channel, by the way. Very informative.
This makes so much sense...thanks for the video this was alot of help!
I have a very long fingersling, and I always thought that was a good thing. This is very useful. I'll chat about it with my coach. Thanks!
Oh! Awesome, glad it helped out!
@@OnlineArcheryAcademy - Just a quick update: I've shortened the sling and also moved the loop from my middle finger to my index finger. I'm getting a really consistent bow reaction, with the bottom limb tip consistently hitting the same spot on my leg during followthrough.
Incidentally, what do you think about that? My bow used to roll in front of me, but this summer at a 70m round the limb suddenly started hitting my leg instead. Very weird, but it seems to work!
@@jk1440 after 2 years I am facing with exact problem did u fix it mate . My bow is constantly hitting my leg and didnt roll that much. Is this a problem with my grip ?
@@efeozanunal Nothing wrong with the bottom limb hitting your leg as I understand it. As I remember, I was just wondering what Ashe's opinion was :)
Mine carried on doing that while I shot target recurve, but now I shoot barebow and the bow reaction is different.
Sorry I can't be of more help!
@@jk1440 thx for everything
I switched from a finger sling to a wrist sling, which is more comfortable for me. Do you have any thoughts about wrist slings compared to finger slings?
Generally you can maintain a better direction of the bow on release with a finger sling across the index finger and thumb, but this would be a minor technical point :) The key parts of the shot will have the biggest impact on your performance so focussing on these is where the biggest improvements will come!
Question. Is this where the tendency to miss right comes from?
I could not understand very well how to fix the 3rd mistake
Could you explain again in another way?
This is so accurate. I have had a lose sling for a while and my shooting has gotten worse over time
Who riser?
I am draw the bow automaticaaly chest is front
Give me suction
When I angle my hand backwards to drive the spot I want the bow on forward to avoid torque it slides up the bow and its driving me crazy...
Your hand should be fully to the top still so that it can't slide up - as shown in the video. If you're able to slide up it sounds like you haven't filled the grip fully at the top. Check out this page for more info:

@@OnlineArcheryAcademy right i get you, that's the thing when i angle my hand back it is kinda sliding up against the bottom of the shelf so hard then im creating torque, not just feathering/ angling the bow on my index/ thumb. I would try and preemptively start with my hand lower and try to give it alittle space to allow for it to slide up.. but it just keeps going as I try to stick it to that ball in thumb pad you know... so then im questioning all these little issues about the grip because it's screwing me...I was thinking my only solution was to try epoxy putty to change the handle or some super sticky badminton handle grip tape? Thanks very much for the input I should mention this is on compound with wandw arion x39 and elite victory x37.. same with both... I keep hitting left and low.. both bows. However im splitting Xs when im extremely careful and methodical (and still fresh strong not fatigued halfway through) and the shot goes just right. The arion x has tape on grip and does do much better but that was my last wrap.. before I bother wrapping other bows or trying different wrap I wanted to figure some of this out. Thanks again so much for your time. I'll be looking into that link you sent.
@@OnlineArcheryAcademy maybe I should try a finger sling to help control that position/ movement? Right now using wrist
So the string is actually suppose to line up with and touch the nose, really?... 7:20 I've been anchoring more by the cheek bone, like right under the outside edge of my eye, totally keeps the string away from touching my nose, in comparison, i suppose i would say that it feels a bit like i'm holding the bow off to the side of me ( more deltoid?), instead of in front of me (yeah, trying to get the string to touch my nose felt like i was holding the bow more in front of me), haven't had any lessons, so trying to figure it out myself with traditional bow. Maybe my being a bit kyphotic has something to do with this?
Glad I’ve found this but it’s funny I’m here to get my grip correct, and he says “you need the right length finger sling, everyone knows what that is..” I’m thinking I can’t even hold the bow right! Pretty sure we dont ALL know what a finger a finger sling is! Lol
This is a great point! I've been shooting for too long that I take some things for granted - I'll do a future video on this definitely as you're right, I'm sure more archers would find this helpful too!
Online Archery Academy awesome thank you!
Not everybody knows what finger sling is.
Always wondered if my finger sling is to tight. Turns out it is... 🙈
We've all done it :P
Good video but man, the way you say precision is so damn nasal
