i was angry how short the gameplay was compared to their original first game - final fantasy tactics - ultima's was very disturbing to look at - i enjoyed the young clive

I like how he just coincidentally has a one-winged form, not because he was made that way, but because his physical vessel is damaged and that's the only wing it has left.

Although what I’m about to say might not be the intention of the writers…
From my understanding the number of wings signifies the strength of an Angel, with Metatron being the Angel with most wings and therefore most powerful.
So it’s because of this that I find it funny when we fight the first Ultima and Sephiroth on FF7.
Sephiroth only gained 1 wing in the end, meaning he did reach power akin to a god… but only the first step.
Meanwhile Ultima had 1 wing on his “weak form” but did gain his full set in the end symbolizing his position as a true God of Creation.
Just some food for thought with this comment.

The real reason is that in religion one wing is meant to symbolize a “fallen angel”. Which is what Sephiroth and Ultima are. Angles/Gods/or powerful beings that are supposed to and often used to symbolize something good but went astray for whatever reason. Pretty much a malfunctioning god.
In their heads they are still serving their purpose and doing what they’re supposed to do, but somewhere along the lines their logic got twisted and conflicted. Kinda like if a god was supposed to protect all humans and does so for a while but eventually realizes humans are a danger to themselves so they come to the crazy conclusion that in order to protect all humans, they have to kill all humans in order to protect them from themselves, but in their heads they’re still doing what’s good, for example.
It quite literally is a “malfunctioning god”
@@terellkid1 This is what happened in Guilty Gear. A being was created to protect humanity, but massive logical errors occurred that it couldn't overcome because humanity is in many ways self-defeating. So the conclusion was to DESTROY humanity and create a humanity that wasn't self-destructive.
The whole final battle was a f'n LIGHTSHOW AND A GRAND SPECTACLE OF GAMING. Every developer should take note, this is how you do a final battle
Only thing that would've made it cooler was the boss having their own QTEs that they started fucking up towards the end

I only watched the game movie but man was this story BIG. the scale of the Eikons was so epic. To me it seemed like a love letter to the series. Especially when they mentioned a "Final Fantasy

Ben fucking KILLED it as Clive in this game! The amount of emotion he puts in when he's sad, pissed off or even just normal is flawless! I'm not trying to put him on a high horse, but fucking hell, his voice acting is legendary!

I love watching combat from this game and realizing everyone else had COMPLETELY different load-outs to me by the end and yet all our builds felt powerful and balanced.
Love that the music is having a power clash. Ultima theme starting off, then becoming dominant, then fighting againsts clives theme, then ultimatly getting completely overpowered.

Took me about 3 months to finish and now I’m going back for the platinum. Honestly despite it’s flaws it is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. I don’t think I’ve ever cried fighting a final boss before but facing Ultima at the end had me in tears. Clive is up there with Cloud as one of my favourite protagonists in gaming. The support cast were incredible too and by the end of the game I felt so close with all the characters I genuinely struggled leaving them behind. I really hope future DLC focuses on Leviathan and fleshes out Jill and Joshua more as characters. Ultima is also right up there with Sephiroth as one of my favourite ever villains. I’ll never forget this story.
The way the Prelude is woven into this soundtrack is so stunning. It's a whole new, other worldly level. This story broke my heart six ways to Sunday. Joshua's theme and sacrifice, in particular, absolutely drained me of emotion. I cried and cried... what an absolute masterpiece of a game & soundtrack. We are so lucky to have experienced this. 🔥🔥🔥
The music in XVI really elevates the whole gaming experience to next level ...
my gf cried her eyes out after the battle. she was with me thru all 350hrs across 3 runs and Echoes of The Fallen. What an epic game and my personal GOTY

Ultima fight was eclipsed by Titan and Bahamut fights though. They also got lazy with Ultima Prime looking like Ifrit with wings. Still a great game though.

Yes this theme is definitely the best one. The ethereal feeling. I just wish they let Clive stay semi primed during the final fights and make Ultima much tougher as you constantly heal.

Slight correction in your description "32:10 Phase 9 BGM Ultimalius Battle 2 (Find the Flame)" This track is actually not "Find the Flame". The correct version of this sequence is called "All as One". They sound similar but are in fact quite different.
Seeing Ultima completely lose his composure is awesome
The track that plays during Clive's flashback. Soken somehow managed to compose something that encapsulates the sad/proud/tragic/nostalgic feeling you'd get when having a flashback in the moments before death all in one track.
Also for those who don't play FF14, listen to "One Small Step." It's just Endwalker "zone music," but I've always told people this is the track I want to hear when that final DMT trip hits as I'm dying. Soken is a legend man.

Fuck i love this game. Top 3 ff all time for me personally. This game didnt need complex battle systems and in depth side quests. The story, voice acting and music were superb. An absolute wet dream for story-driven players

This game has to be a masterpiece, if it was fantastic for me to play FFVII and FVIII, I have it on my list of future games to play, I think it will be the most exciting experience of my life. I am grateful to all those professionals who gave life to this amazing game

Indeed. Every other QTE sequence in the game, you only ever got damaged if you messed up, despite the visuals making it look you got some HP lost. Here, even WHEN you succeed, you are at most blocking more damage.

Yes it is ! I noticed the same theme was used when barnabas gives his speech to Clive just after cutting the whole sea in half
It's kind of the 2nd Ultima motif, the first instance I think is called "Bloodlines" and it is very clearly the Final Fantasy 1 map theme.
Keep on coming back to this theme, so god damn incredible, might as well be called, “The Epic of Mythos”
Absolute favorite game of all time. Actually played through and beat it twice, second time on FF mode. Last ultima battle gives me chills every time. Best soundtrack ever also, cherry on top to an already badass story and game.

I just realized, when Clive unstraps his gauntlet to revive Joshua at the end, it's the first time you see his hand in the entire game.
Well we see his hands both in the night stay with Jill at Eastpool when he dresses down, as well as in the cell after the Garuda encounter and beach scene with Jill for obvious reasons :^) But when he's fully dressed? I can't think of another point in the game when his hands are bare, so I think the potential symbolism still stands tbh

I love this Final Fantasy 16 game and I'm a 75 year old woman. Clive is my favorite and I love seeing him kill the bosses almost like what Jesus will do at His second coming during Armageddon! Be sure to believe & accept Jesus Christ as your mighty Lord and Savior and follow Him daily in all you do!

This needs to be the future of Final Fantasy combat going forward. CBU3 already has the tech to make AI companions with FF14's trust system. Add in the functionality to switch between them during intense mechanics, or to debuff bosses. And you have the recipe for the best FF battle system ever created.
Well, what you're thinking of just seems to be a natural evolution of FF7R's combat, so it's not hard to imagine that being more of a thing.
Thank you for making this megamix of Ultima's theme variations! I loved this final boss, but the sound mixing is really off, the volume goes up and down numerous times so I hope this gets corrected!

This game is just amazing from start to finish. only downside pvp isnt on same level of quality.
Ultima Prime- Ultima's weakest form, demolishes Bahamut, Phoenix, and Ifrit with minimal effort
Ultima x3- three Ultimas merged together, gets demolished by Clive in human form
Ultima Risen- buffed Ultima Prime, gets demolished by the equivalent of Ifrit and Phoenix
Ultimalius- every single Ultima combined into one, with the powers of every Eikon, gets demolished by Clive
