I've been to the Rockford Surplus Store and it is amazing!! The people are OUTSTANDING!!! If you don't see what your looking for just ask you might be surprised!! I've been there 3 times, all the way from Michigan, they have NEVER disappointed.
I just got 2 large surplus German combat belts for $5 each. (I learned not to buy just one when something surplus is cheap.) The belt is fantastic, went to buy more and they are sold out. People really underestimate the quality and utility of surplus items.
Blackie, you rock!! I love a good surplus store have found some awesome items….we don’t have any in my neck of the woods (Eastern Oregon) Thank you so much!
Hi Blackie, tim from Florida, is in the Ozarks, scouting for Beaver, for spring trapping seasons. this trip has been delayed for 3 years. My doctors said i was OK for me to camp out for the summer, i am camping in a hotel, called the lake House Inn, jn a town where the population of 250 or so.
Ha! I lived in South Elgin IL. That Army Surplus store there was awesome. Never thought watching Blackie I’d get an old time reference to my youth. lol. Any videos from the gathering coming up?
spent almost $400.00 for licenses, Primative turkey 250.00, trapping, fishing, Found the largest beaver infestatiom, unfortunatly it is in my creek lost about 5 acres being built into a moskito pound.
We used to have a mom and pop surplus store where I live. Once or twice a year I would visit and explore. It wasn’t as big as some that you have shown. Unfortunately, it burnt down. Now there is nowhere in Brisbane Australia to find surplus. If I walked into the stores that you have shown, I would go bananas
I have a 2xl rothco od green slant pocket jungle fatigue shirt like Blackie has. Its a pretty good copy. I think it a little thinner than the original small my uncle gave me in 78 but its holding up well. I wouldnt hesitate to buy rothco for a "plus" size at all.
Hey Blackie, couple things. 1. Love the percussion revolver series. Learned a lot of information from that series that I have applied to my own 1860 army and other revolvers. 2. I know you reviewed some kaido conicals, but I will have some 255 grain conicals from my kaido mold soon if you feel like testing them let me know and I'll ship you some. 3. I believe that it was you who recommended this but I can't find the video now. Did you shave metal off your loading levers plunger to give a more consistent loading depth for your rounds? If so how did you go about finding that. I'd assume let the lever down and mark it and cut it long then file it down the rest of the way.
i use a punch i find a good seat depth then i use a pencil to draw a line along the chamber mouth to the rammer then i will take a small punch and punch one line dot above and one just below the line so it looks like this : that way when the bottom dot disappears into the chamber but the upper do is still there i know i am at a given depth
Last fall at a general surplus store (mostly new household items) I got a vintage Canadian Military Issue Extreme Cold Weather Parka for $10 Canadian or about $7.50 in real money. It's listed online for $124.95. Score! I wore it all winter. It's got a great big hood that extends far forward from your face and there is a soft thick wire inside the front seam so you can bend the hood opening into any shape and size you want. You could wear several hats or balaclavas or whatever inside it . When you put that up over, you instantly feel the cold just go away. That's what you want in a blizzard. I never saw any hood that functions like that, it's great. I wore the parka up to last week, without the liner.
Blackie, those "German" jackets are actually Belgian. Good kit though! Do they have any more of the single layer stainless arctic canteens with the matching cup?
Blackie: I really appreciate your tours through Kaufman's; I bought an MSS Bivvy Bag from them after you showed it. Do they have any Alice pack frame SHELVES? I'm looking for one.
Wish we were closer to that surplus store. Today we were just at a surplus store in Huntsville Alabama, he is going out of business. 40% off everything. Picked my wife up an ACU field jacket today with some other odds and ends. Blackie not sure of your route to NC but I am looking for MRE’s..
I have a Coat Cold Weather Field, Woodland Camouflage, John Ownbey Company, Inc. Is this a military jacket or a hunting jacket? It has buttons on the inside for some kind of liner.
If this is the one on Johnson Street in Samson,Alabama, I've been there. Bout 10 yrs ago I drove a semi and used to go from South Georgia to Opp,Alabama once a month.
There is nothing like the number of Army Surplus stores that there used to be so a bit of travel is usually involved however I have bought a lot of good stuff from them, I am not sure I go with the idea of used underwear however.
Blackie that place is a treasure trove been looking for medium regular size pants that match the original m65 in olive drab if you come across any in your treasure hunt please let me know thanks a million
