Its not better. This is the worst way to rig one i have ever seen. You can skip the gill and just put the hook in the back. Use a circle hook if you thing theres too much hook…. Think of it like putting fish on a stringer. You put something through the gills, fish is dead. Dead bait isnt good at catching fish
The main thing is if u got big bluegill on u they can’t peck him off the hook. Like when u just hook them thru the head they either gotta take it or they can’t get it or peck it off this is a great way to target what ur after or u will get sownrhing decent sized of any species

I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)
Thanks for the help and video I been just hooking it through the gill and caught alot fish and lost a whole lot because I wasn't hooking the minnow right but thanks to you that's finna be over with
a good point was how good this works when sunnies are around. They'll pick at it and knock it off if its just dangling before the slabs have a chance! Great setup and you'll probably catch a few off one minnow!
@@903fishing Aye you bet! You know how those lil buggers get! Mouths are bigger than thier stomach! But great advice, hopefully everyone reads this also! Lol
I usually just go through the top halfway back since I found that they like to strike upward and head first. The minnow looks natural and the line goes straight up. The fish can feel the line if it is rigged forward.
Works awesome! Just started using your method. Works great. Minnow lasts longer, too. I will say, our minnows the last couple trips were super small...so harder to find their mouth. They clam up like a toddler at the dentist and can't get the hook in! 😄

I hook my greenbacks just behind the peck fin. Bait stays alive until something smacks it as long as your mindful to not hit it's vitals. Makes the bait flutter which gets your target fish attention and it makes the bait stick out from the other bait around
