- December 1989, Ko de Korte and Tom Haarsma from The Netherlands, went to Mississippi searching for blues musicians playing the old rural blues. The aim was to record their music on cassette tapes, but they also had a small Super-VHS camera. The registrations took place in the homes of the musicians, sometimes in their bedroom. After visiting 18 musicians in 2 weeks they came back with a lot of audio tapes and 14 hours of video. November 2013, Ko de Korte and Dutch J den Hollander decided to edit a documentary of the footage. Seventeen musicians have died now, among them are Rule Burnside and T-model Ford.
Fantastic record of the original delta blues artists . Beautifully and respectfully filmed and recorded
Those 50 minutes just flew by. Wow.
I was born and raised in Mississippi . I’m proud of my guitar heros
Same!
I forgot to say thank you artists and you documentarian for your preserverance for getting this footage recorded, and thank all the relatives of the artists- Just Thank you everyone !
Thank You!
I've watched this video countless times now. Plus, I've put it on and just listened to it. I believe this is one of the truest classic documentaries of the history of American culture. I haven't been moved like this in a long time.
Great to hear this, because this was the reason to start editing the footage after so many years ...😍
@dutchjdenhollander3232 I don't know if you've seen or heard of Penelope Sheeris' 1981 documentary Decline Of Western Civilization , wich documents the PUNK culture of early 80's America, but this video is as true and as raw as that. In fact, describing it to friends and other music enthusiasts I have called it "The Decline Of Western Civilization for Blues".
when you have nothing you have the blues and when you 're old you had the blues .
Mississippi still got em , they come from all around once a year at the blues fest at ground zero near tunica Mississippi
Ground Zero is in Clarksdale. A blues fan should be familiar with where Route 61 and 49 meet.
I recommend this to all blues fans!!!
The day is 28/july/2023, i am in New Zealand smoking a cigar at 10:35pm on a Cool calm Friday winters night witnessing these great musicians produce beautiful frequencies ❤❤❤❤❤
The people are so proud and so sweet.
so much talent out there while pop charts are boring
That's America right here.
The soul of a man, or woman , is the only thing, ---- worth a damn !
A modern Alan Lomax piece of work, thanks!!!
Nothing like old school blues. They forever have my respect
legends. the talent on display is unfathomable
That music at 25:45 is straight from their African ancestors - it’s not blues, but much, much older, and ancient. You can still hear traces of it in central Africa (Congo, Zambia), truly amazing that they have pretty much been separated for many generations, yet have remained very accurate to the old music - clearly very carefully passed down from the ancestors.
What a very moving and excellent film, thank you!
Thank you for your kind words after watching
This is one of the most genuine films Ive seen in a while! Jesse Mae in her old age here was still a beautiful woman!
Many many thanks for sharing God bless you all and all de viewers 🙋♂️❤️🙏
These guys were very fortunate to meet these original country southern bluesmen, most of them are gone, but not forgotten
+Professor Yancy
what are you talking about you complete tit. Blues has been a fusion of European and African music from the start. There was as many white blues singers as there was black but those guys were labeled as country and the black singers were labeled as race or blues. The British invasion helped to reboost the careers of many great blues performers which sadly previously white America wasn't interested in because of its racist policies. BB king Muddy Waters or any of the original blues greats will and have confirmed that.
Man the blues is everyting
I like how nobody tunes their guitars...real campfire rural! 😁 Great piece of Mississippi blues history you captured - Bravo!
Thank you for sharing, from NSW Australia❤️ ... So beautiful to see smiling faces & feel humanity & soulful music... it’s now nearly September 2023, what a different world, the demons have taken over & are executing humanities demise... Stay human, stay strong! May God keep and guide all truthseekers🙏🕊
amen, sister

This is priceless, makes me feel in an odd way sad happy and humble. All gone now, great people in this movie. I'm thankful that i got to see this. Mr. Wilburt Lee Reliford especially burned a hole in my soul, ---> There is a Wilburt Lee Reliford album being officially released this summer, called Seems Like A Dream. Thanks from Finland.
Met Aikei in Holly Springs 1 month ago, doing great, selling cigarettes by one, still very proud of his shop (which can not be be entered because the clutter inside is stopping the door:). Long live Hill Country Blues!
