@@levetamcclellan8551 Black Angus are a very large beefy breed, The bulls in less hand raised can be aggressive. The summers where the weather is 90+ degrees is hard on them. The south poles handle summer heat better, but are smaller. My neighbor hand raised his bull from a calf and was not aggressive. The combination of the two worked well. The calves tended to be larger, more heat tolerant. Decent hanging weight when finished. The meat was marbled like an Angus. I will tell you he kept a good watch on the cows and heifers when close to delivery as the larger calves could be a problem. He would sell off the female calves. He said a good bulls hard to come by. He had a strict breeding program that way he knew to keep the cows close when delivery time was near.
Congratulations!! And thankyou again for the introduction to the fantastic Squizzito folks!! I received my first order and already can't imagine my eating pleasure without their products! Voon - dee - bar!!! Loving all you share from North Idaho zone 6a 💚🌻🌿
Those new cow calf pairs look super gentle...that is a great way to go for safety sake too. All the new ones look great. I am sure I am the only one to notice this but when Ben unlocked the truck door for u while filming was so nice to me...let's just say I wish all hubbies would think like that 😁
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤ SOUTH POLLED CATTLE ❤❤ must be early spring they still have winter coats on❤❤ watch them who sheds off easier.. it’s a great trait to keep eye on❤❤
I like the red cows, myself, but then the ranch I worked on growing up had mostly red Herefords. The majority of which had a white face. Pretty much free range cattle, finished on grain at the stockyards, after we sold them. We always kept back a couple for our own freezer, and processed them ourselves. Meat house was kept at like 40 degrees, they were processed and aged in there. Had a big butcherblock that was made in the 1930's, that grandpa would occasionally take a plane to and flatten down. Think it weighed over 300 pounds. Everyone showed up for butchering day. From dispatch to hamburger meat, there was an assembly line thing. Meat to be aged was wrapped and hung, the rest went to either fresh steaks or hamburger meat or stew meat. Brains, tongue, heart and liver went to another area, where those that wanted it could package it up to take home. Several of the hands on the ranch wanted the tripe (Stomach muscle lining). The small intestine was cleaned for sausage casings. The hooves went into grandpa's buckets for making glue, and the hide was usually stretched, scraped and framed for the tanners. The bones and scrap meat left over (Not much scrap meat left, btw) was piled in a bin for the dogs, and pigs. Large intestine was usually cleaned and dried for use as twine on temporary projects. Usually gathered up a lot of tendons for sinew, for sewing patches on the leather saddles, or chaps. We tried to use as much of the animal as we could. Raised up in the "Waste not, want not" ideal.
Awesome! Laughing at Ben trying to talk. There should be a tshirt idea in there somewhere. 😄 That last outtake was pretty funny. Those new heifers/cows are so pretty. I'm excited to see how these new cows do for you and hoping they work out well. Speaking of pretty, I love that color on you Andrea.
Love seeing your farm grow! I really appreciate you showing the process of it all. There are a lot of people that are new to farming and raising cattle and I'm one of them! Thank you so much for sharing ❤
I think you are doing phenomenal choice by going reds and south polls!! Angus and baldy is what people like here too but I think your wise to go to south poll, red angus and Herefords! I think the market will move that way especially independent sellers like yourself! Y’all are rocking it!
Hi, Ben and Andrea. You are both looking so well. Ben, your gate-keeper is beautiful. She holds you up when you think you can't. She's a keeper! Congratulations on the cow swapping.
Beautiful new cows and I like their attitudes already! Could save you so much time in handeling. I am really glad your farm is part of the solution! Takes so much faith and courage to be different! Especially in farming. We get the craziest looks when we talk natural stock keeping and organic gardening and pastures with traditional growers. We planted a seed in that regard yesterday when picking up our new dairy goat buck. We suggested Pat Colebys books. It really works but takes guts to implement when it is so different than we what we did before.
Watching this reminds me of when we got Beefmasters, Same thing, in AZ everybody wanted the black. I sure liked the Beefmasters to work much calmer. In my experience anything with Angus in it and black will fight with a stick if it even thinks the stick MIGHT fight back. Good looking bunch of heifers'. God bless
I have the same problem if it is not black they don't sell for as much. I have a beautiful red steer I am butchering next month because it won't bring much at the sale.
I am trying to get my husband to understand the value of homesteading if I get him to come down there could I pay you to come out to dinner to dinner to discuss the homesteading lifestyle?
New sub here! What camera and editing program do y’all use? I’m just curious as were wanting to upgrade and start producing batter quality vids on our channel.
@@VWFamilyFarm you got an amazing deal on those girls!!! may i ask who you got them from? i drove to Missouri this weekend as well and picked up a load of yearling heifers. you defiantly wont be disappointed with the south polls!!
Why can’t you Sell your cattle off the Farm tho ???. And do you have Sell your Cattle at the Salebarn ??? . Love the South Poll cattle and Red Angus too. But not black Angus. We have heat tolerance breeds Like Red Angus and Limousin and Hereford
Just think when y'all are 80 and finally winding down the life you will pass on to the kiddos and great grandkids even. Such a blessing
before we moved we had a neighbor that we would buy beef from, South pole cows and black Angus bull.some of the best beef i ever eaten.
Is the black angus better or the South Pole? Please be honest

One of Greg Judy's cows is 20 y-o...hope you get that kind of longevity in your new cows.
They are so good even stopping in the squeeze shoot when the gates open for em. lol At Ben dropping his rattle paddle.

Great team work once again- cows seem to have a good attitude- no crazy ones. Cheers Denise
What a Great Idea about the South Poles and the Trade. Good Luck God Bless and Peace Be With You All
If I were to take on a challenge of working a small herd of Cattle.I would pick Randall Linebacks..Those Black Heifers are Beauty Peace from MN
You two look so healthy. Andrea, you look like a teenager. Seriously.💖
The cows were running circles around you. Lots of work in a day. 💖

💞Loved the out-take at the end..."You can do it" she says...💞
The new girls from Missouri are just beautiful.
So glad you are bringing that breed to Arkansas!

I was so excited for ya's. I didn't want the video to end.

Congrats on the South pole cows
Had to watch it twice. I fell asleep halfway through lol
Great team y’all
The black cattle brings more than others here in Alabama but reds are my favorite
Such great information.

Where are you located?
I just watched you on hidden heights farm and just subscribed.
Welcome
Were they Greg Judy's South poles? Congratulations!!!
No
❤❤❤
I think a resurgence of Heritage breed Livestock would be good for the country. I hope Y'All make a good profit off of them.
❤🙏
Did you get these wonderful cows from Greg Judy??
No, we didn’t.
Still doing what you wanted out of the South Polls?
What is a, "winged heifer"?
Weined, as in no longer nursing. And a heifer is a cow that hasn’t had a calf
Drove up where ?????
We drove to Sainte Genevieve Missouri to get our females and almost Kansas City Missouri to get our bull.
@@VWFamilyFarm thank u I’m in ks I’d drive there to get my start
New sub here! What camera and editing program do y’all use? I’m just curious as were wanting to upgrade and start producing batter quality vids on our channel.
We have a Panasonic LUMIX G7 and a GoPro hero 9. We edit with filmora 9
@@VWFamilyFarm thanks for the info! We are looking at several options.
How much did you guys pay for the south poll heifers and pairs? Are any of the south poll calves heifers?
We paid $800 a piece for the heifers. Both calves are heifers.
@@VWFamilyFarm you got an amazing deal on those girls!!! may i ask who you got them from? i drove to Missouri this weekend as well and picked up a load of yearling heifers. you defiantly wont be disappointed with the south polls!!
☺👍👍👍👌❤❤❤
Been trying to buy (1) female for 2 yrs …… I keep trying
My wish for you is that you can get away from using the sale barn at all and start exclusively doing direct sales
Why can’t you Sell your cattle off the Farm tho ???. And do you have Sell your Cattle at the Salebarn ??? . Love the South Poll cattle and Red Angus too. But not black Angus. We have heat tolerance breeds Like Red Angus and Limousin and Hereford
We plan to sell off the farm eventually
Just love what you are doing with your family . And just waiting for more .
