I also realized throughout the majority of the film, Mr. Krabs never acknowledges nor did he paid *ANY* attention to Plankton, along with the fact he never knew that Plankton framed him for "stealing Neptune’s Crown".
This movie is essentially the true ending to SpongeBob SquarePants!

I think seasons 4 and 5 are the silver age
Seasons 6-9 are the dark age
Seasons 10-11 are the bronce age
And seasons 12 onwards are just meh

Makes sense imo because there's never a Krusty Krab 2 after this and SpongeBob has never been seen as a manager after this either. This could be considered Plankton's "final defeat" too especially cause he was at his most evil here.

This is by far the greatest movie based on a TV show ever. The epic story, iconic characters, and banger songs, and especially the build up to "Goofy Goober Rock" are all just amazing. And I love the message that it's okay to let your inner kid out sometimes. If the show had ended here, as originally intended I would have no complaints.
This, The Simpsons Movie and South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut are the best.

This movie is him at his most evil and him being a giant threat since he briefly took over bikini bottom and enslaved nearly everyone in the city
So a fun fact, this movie was supposed to be the end of Spongebob. The creator of the show wanted to do 3 seasons and end it with the movie, hence, why Spongebob became manager at the end. Even though there are many seasons after this, many believe this movie still takes place at the end of the Spongebob timeline since the events of this movie are never brought up again (no Krusty Krab 2, Spongebob isn't manager, etc). I think it's pretty neat :)

Stephen Hillenburg actually confirmed in an interview that this actually is canonical ending of the series. Regardless of what episodes there are, the SpongeBob Movie will always take place after them.

This movie has such power man. Always makes me cry during the lamp scene and hyped during the goofy goober scene.
Doesn't matter how many times I see it, I still chuckle and sing along with it to this day. I am able to quote alongside nearly every scene of this movie too.
Fun Fact: the red fish monster that poses as the ice cream stand is actually a frogfish, a real life fish that lures its prey in using a worm-like appendage that acts as a fishing lure. Stephen Hillenburg said he saw one while scuba diving in Hawaii, which was hiding on a big, yellow sponge coincidentally, and decided to add it into the movie.

To this day, this is one of my favorite animated movies of all time.
This movie is actually supposed to be the end of the franchise. Every episode and movie that came after this takes places before this film.
Also, this movie is loosely inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. A group of adventurers travel across the ocean to save a loved one, encountering Neputun/Poseidon, crooks/killers (Dennis/Alex Baldwin & the Biker Bar), the underworld (the trench), Sirens (the frog fish), a cyclops, and travel home using a bag of winds

You'll need to watch his videis to get the full theory, but basically the theory is that there are hundreds of split personalities in his brain with varying levels of intelligence that he switches in between. This explains his random bursts of intelligence sometimes.

I like how this movie isn’t overly Hollywood-like cheesy. It just feels like an extra-long episode of the show.
I went to the SpongeBob Movie in theaters during its first few weeks of being out. One of the most fun and fond memories I have with my dad, who also loved the show.

All seasons have episodes people like and either dislike or just okay.
I don't know if this has changed in the years since Stephen Hillenburg passed, but according to him, even though SpongeBob has always had a pretty loose continuity that it usually doesn't particularly care about, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is considered the canonical ending of the series. No episode, special, or even OTHER MOVIE takes place after the events of this movie, even as the series continues to this day. As far as the "SpongeBob Timeline" is concerned, this is the end point. Which makes sense given how it pretty much wraps everything up in a way that would break the dynamics of the original show if it continued (Plankton successfully stealing AND using the secret formula, SpongeBob the manager of his own Krusty Krab, basically all of Bikini Bottom recognizing him as their hero, heck, even Squidward happily acknowledging that SpongeBob deserves the promotion to manager over himself).
Also fun fact: Scarlet Johansson is the voice of Mindy, and she was a huge fan of the series. So much so that she even reprises her role in the video game adaptation of this movie.
I believe the original Creator of SpongeBob(RIP) said he wanted to end the series with the movie,which is why it seemed like a true finale,until season 4

I just realized the foreshadowing with this movie cause, Patrick legit asks twice if they’re dead and then when they get to shell city, they end up dying for real. It’s so sad but such genius writing at the same time.
Plankton was hands-down at his most brutal and peak evilness here because he wanted to KILL Krabs, SpongeBob and Patrick rather than just straight-up get rid of them and he ACTUALLY succeeded in taking over Bikini Bottom

Now that I’m older I won’t be ashamed to admit I get teary eyed at them feeling like they failed and when they realized they made it they felt it wasn’t all in vain in their last moments.
fun fact, the creator, Stephen Hillenburg rip, said that this was supposed to be the series finale and Spongebob was supposed to end here. but people loved it so much, it ended up gaining more seasons, which leads to the pros of the good episodes of each season being gold and the other movies and holiday special episodes as well as half hour or longer special episodes that're really good, but the con of the show being milked out and becoming stale and dry in over 80 percent of it's episodes after this movie

Love this movie so much. The music goes hard. The visuals were awesome. The story was so heartwarming. And most of all, Patrick slayed in those heels.
This is where spongebob peaked. You guys should continue with at least seasons 4 5 and 6, and if u guys go that far, the second SpongeBob movie is actually really solid.

It’s all come to this! One of the most popular animated movies in 2004. Which was supposed to be the ending of the show, but the show was so popular they decided to keep it going.
This movie was so successful that it put Spondgebob on the world map regardless of all the years he's been on TV. The second movie with Antonio Banderas was awesome too. You will like the soundtrack.
Really hoping ya'll at least check out a few episodes of season 4 before ending this series 🙏🏿

I can’t imagine what it was like experiencing this masterpiece in the big screen as a child when it first came out. Would have been the best day of my life. Unfortunately it was before I had cable, so I didn’t know about SpongeBob until season 4 came in the tv!

Ever since I was 7 years old my brother and I always watch this movie from March 7th - 14th, We made it a tradition every year it just makes the movie more special.
What we do is...
Watch the movie while eating Burgers for ether Lunch or Dinner.
Then eating Ice cream with bananas, candy, and chocolate or strawberry syrup with one cherry on top when we get to the "Goofy Goobers" scene.
Blow bubbles when it gets too the Thug Tug scene.
Put a big piece of lettuce on our upper lip and if NOT lettuce then pieces of green paper with tape stuck to our upper lip when we get to the "Trench scene".
Wake up early on March 14th and say "WE'RE LATE! thinking that krabs was going to be fried.
After watching the movie we are always playing...

A few nice points:
1. Patrick’s obsession with mermaids ended up being a semi-recurring joke.
2. The Goofy Goober Ice Cream may as we’ll be alcoholic. This is the only time we’ve seen these characters flat-out wasted.
3. It’s heavily theorized that Mr. Puff (Mrs. Puff's late ex-husband) is in Shell City.
4. The frog fish is a real creature, luring fish in before CHOMPING down.
5. Despite being a major character in the show, Sandy has a total of 2 lines in this movie.
6. The David Hasselhoff that SpongeBob and Patrick ride back home on is actually a big prop.
7. I love the bag of winds scene. Patrick has that immediate face of “Oh wait, I fucked up.”
8. I got no clue how Plankton got to Sandy, it’s never elaborated on. I’m assuming she was overwhelmed like Squidward.
9. You guys are right. The Neptune in this film and the Neptune in the show are different. No, the show never addresses this.
10. Thomas F. Wilson, the voice actor behind Patrick’s dad, Flatts, the Strangler, etc, is the head honcho of the Thug Tug.

Yes it was supposed to end after this but the show was and is the breadwinner of Nickelodeon. So they kept going , there was a big gap between season 3 and 4 because they actually had to create more content
King Neptune on movie is very different from Season 1. The real one is on Season 1 since he used a real magic power. In the movie, he used only the pitch fork.

The frogfish (icecream trap fish) is unironically the best idea for a sea monster. What's a threat to our colorful characters? A natural predator that can actually crawl along.
The creator added it to the movie just because he thought the little 2 armed fish creeping along the oceanfloor was so fascinating.

Somethinf he didnt even know is that frogfish can jump or gallop from danger FAST. Such a fascinating animal and unsirprisingly related to the deep sea angler, which is obvious if you've seen one.

Man, what a flash back to my childhood. I would have been 5 years old when this came out and my brother took me to watch it, and after we got the dvd I knew the film so well I would sit there and re-hearse the whole script to myself whenever I wanted to. It reminds me of simpler times in my life.
Couldn't have come on a more perfect time. In my opinion this film is absolutely perfect, beyond as a Spongebob film. So glad I could rewatch this journey with y'all. This was absolutely my childhood. Can't wait to stick by for some more beyond the film in season 4

This scene literally proves that unless bikini bottom has a different calendar, Spongebob is at LEAST 44 years old at the time of the movie (since he was apparently ~13-15 when he started at the krusty krab)
Edit: there's also another episode where squidward gets the award instead. prior to that, spongebob had another 44 awards... soo, he's 47-48 actually.
