I think pudding did that so Sanji wouldn’t have any feelings towards her and be totally fine leaving her behind.

I believe Pudding did that, so that Sanji can leave. If Sanji remembers the kiss, he would've either "kidnapped" Pudding together with her, which will increase the difficulty of escaping exponentially; or he would've stoned right there, unable to come back to his senses.
Pudding's character arc is insanity, we literally started the arc by loving her, then hating her to our guts, then most dropped tears for this moment.

You're correct on the motive, it was so that Sanji would not be hung up on her and it would make it easier for him to leave Big Mom's Area without any reason to come back.

I had forgotten how much Pudding just devolves into 'ugly crying' after taking the memory from Sanji. That scene made for two people 'ugly crying'.

the main theme of whole cake island was family. the family you are born into, the family you marry into and the family you choose.
chiffon and praline were put into marriages they originally didn't want, just to make their mom happy but in the end, they sided with their new families because they got the love they wanted and deserved.
katakuri has this image of the perfect brother but threw that image away for his pride as a pirate and his sister totally turned on him. it was his "ugly" sister who knew him best and loved him the most.
sanji was draw back into this because of his blood family but rejected it for his chosen one: the straw-hat pirates.
the big mom pirates maybe a family by blood but they aren't a true family. probably because big mom herself has no clue as to what a family is suppose to be. which, makes her something of a tragic figure. she yearns for something she doesn't understand.

This is true, big mom on WCI could be next to doffy for being the best antagonist for me.
I think you make an interesting point about Big Mom's children betraying her once she matches them up with someone. By marrying her children off she exposes them to love and kindness that they could never have experienced from her or her family, and of course when the time comes to choose between the two they're gonna choose love over loyalty to the woman who has done them so much harm.
To be fair thats mostly Streußens fault because he was the one who teached her all the wrong morals in the first place
That last shot of Sanji and Zeff is my favorite panel in the manga. Such a great way to end the arc.
What a great scene, It really shows who is Sanji's real father!
Flampe mentioned earlier that 40 out of 41 big brothers voted for her as the favorite little sister.
The only one that didn't was Katakuri, since his favorite is Brulee.
I wanna believe in my headcanon, that sanji and zeff got Seafood Risotto as their first meal after they were rescued, and now it's the one meal they make whenever someone is close to starving. It's their comfort meal.

Man, Sanji and Zeff at finals it was so amazing, they are so equal.. so good to undestands what all about this scene really represents
People said that Sanji here had no development, and that was exactly the point. Sanji in this arc had to get out of it unchanged, not get affected by the evil in his family, but he even turned the tables and probably made his family a bit more human. That's why Zeff and Sanji are compared at the end, it shows that Sanji kept being himself despite the odds.
100% this. Beautifully put. In fact we actually see more of who he *already* is (kind, compassionate, sincere), and that HE was the one who possibly changed THEM (his family)💖

The long Arc about a human kindness that affecting everyone else closed by such a beautiful moment of Pudding and Sanji, a wholesome friendship between Pedro,Carrot and Sanji, plus the truth about undefeated Katakuri's record just a cover for his love to protect his family 👏👏👏 Masterpiece
There's a perfect japanese music that i found really fit with this situation, sung by famous singer Kenshi Yonezu who sing Kick Back for Chainsaw Man, and that song called "Melancholy Kitchen"
I’m sure other people have mentioned this, but most of big mom’s son see flambé as their favorite little sister. The only one who doesn’t for sure vote for her is Katakuri, whose favorite is brûlée for the backstory reasons shown.
Pudding took sanji’s memories of the kiss because, as I see it, she didn’t want to hold the one person to truly care for her as she is back.
I cried over this purin thing. I think about how difficult her life was being treated like a monster, then out of nowhere the man she needs to kill becomes the first person to see her in a good way...
One of the best endings to an arc in the entirety of One Piece. The anime did such a great job.

pudding stealing the memories of their kiss is such a shock and hits deep
I believe the reason Pudding took the memory is so that Sanji won't risk his life trying to safe her. She knows that his captain is important and that he needs to go back to the crew but she also knows that he would make anything happen to take her with him after that kiss. It's too risky but she is in love with him so she can't just leave it at that. She wanted to steal a kiss from the only person that complimented her third eye but not compromise the whole mission for him nor make him try to come back to a place that brought so much pain to him.
Oda: not a fan with romance
Also Oda: creates a more tragic love story then other romance anime/manga
THISSSSS. I don’t usually put shipping people as one of my priorities but damn when Oda writes romance, he blows us all away…and Sanji and pudding are the exception in regards to me shipping characters
I also love how you could see Pudding as "the Character being made so that the other one has a love interest" because obviously Sanjis happy end would be to have a loving wife thats how we know him
But instead of making a 1 dimensional perfect fit like she seemed to be at the beginning of the arc he pulls a full 180 on us
Pudding is so so full of flaws, problems and drama. Yet thats what makes her her own character and in such a One Piece typical strange way its exactly those flaws that make her such a perfect fit for Sanji in the end
I like to think the reason pudding remove the memories was because after everything she said and did to Sanji
Sanji was still kind to her and possibly the only person who was kind to her not even her family was nice to her so in a way for her she just probably thinks to herself I don't deserve to have sweet moments in his memories
Also, i do think sanji would probably want to deliver his heart entirely to her and take her with him and such... Well, as things are in the manga right now, i hope to see something else until the end of one piece
This is a beautiful closing in every aspect Oda just making masterpieces. RIP Pedro, Pekoms, and Kingbuam they all sacrificed themselves helping us.

Zeff and the rest of the chefs at baratie extended theirs business. Main ship is larger. Also they have one that is underwater restaurant and the other inspired by Sanji's first wanted poster.
This episode is so cinematic dude really love One Piece cause it brings a lot more emotion then other anime
Katakuri may not show it directly but he cares deeply for his family.
With a parent like Big Mom and how she discards the fathers of her children when they are no longer needed, the kids pretty much grow up without a proper parent figure, a role that inevitable katakuri took as the second eldest.
In order to protect and make sure no one would dare hurt his family, he became this perfect man so that no one would dare mess with him or his siblings.
He pretty much sacrificed his life in order to make sure his family would live good ones, forced to keep up this facade in front of everyone, with very few moments when he can just kick back, eat a donut and just be himself without worrying about what people would think.
Its both inspiring as it is sad.
wonder what will happen with Whole cake now that BM was defeated. Katakuri deserves better.
@@Madheim777 I mean looking at logically, I'd assume the thing that happened when Whitebeard died will repeat. A ton of pirates will take this opportunity and try to steal their Territory and get their hands on whatever treasures and valuables a Yonko like Big Mom had.
There are a ton of Islands under Big Moms flag so there are a lot of targets and the Charlotte siblings would probably try to spread out and protect their turf.
This will probably start to wear them off in time, and they might come to the realization that this will keep repeating over and over again now that they aren't under a Yonkos banner.
Katakuri who is most likely to be the new captain now that mommy dearest is gone, will without a doubt try to find a solution that will ensure the safety of his family.
The best solution he could think off is to get back the protection they had before.
That meant two options, either become a Yonko himself or become allied to one and their protection.
The first options drops since by this point they are not in a position to start a war, let alone win one.
So the only option is to ally themselves with another Yonko.
As much as his siblings will be against it, he would make Luffy this offer. The one who earned his respect.
Plus, since Blackbeard captured Pudding, he will need all the help he can get to get her back, and I'm pretty sure Sanji would instantly jump in to rescue her once he learns about what happened to her.
All in all, I do hope Katakuri becomes a ally to the straw hats in one shape or form.

Big kids aren't bad people they became bad people because of her and the environment they grew up in. Katakuri is example of I am tuff on the outside but a softie on the inside. He truly is a great brother.
5:30 to be exact he didn’t hide his face for brûlée. He did it either for himself to never show weakness or vulnerability again or he did it for his family to be a pillar of unwavering strength.

We cannot end Whole Cake Island any other way, a musical crescendo of Soul Pocus, with the brutal view of the Big Mom pirates regaining control as Luffy and co escape, Pudding's last wish that she keeps as a memory only for herself, Katakuri showing how all along Brulee was his favourite sister and it was harm to her that bore his 'perfect' facade but also that he's happy to hear of Luffy's escape, Carrot having to tell Sanji about Pedro, and of course the song itself
all to achieve the one mission, Sanji is back with his Nakama to cook for them again. Technically that is the end of Whole Cake Island, the next episode is more the aftermath of it

Bruh this episode is like the best closing. The direction make it feels like a show rather than anime episode
I was watching a TheDrawkShow stream the other day and he was saying how people's haiki is a reflection of who the person is and what's important to them, then he broke down what he meant. He couldn't mention Katakuri yet because his mom hasn't read WCI yet, but what he said really made me reevaluate Katakuri's observation haiki letting him see the future. He was so upset by his sister being attacked in his place that he developed the ability to protect them before anything happens. During the fight with Luffy we just see him as a cool bad guy with an unreal power that pushes Luffy past his limit, but in reality, he's just like that to keep his siblings safe. It's so wild.

Sanji's relationship with his biological father vs his relationship with his true father can be described with a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 quote "he may have been your father boy but he wasn't your daddy"

In the prison-book, Luffy said that they would have the last laugh. It's genius how the last scene of Whole Cake is Big Mom herself having the final laugh. She may have taken casualties, but Luffy lost a lot more (Pedro) while she ate the best cake of her life.
I always thought pudding did that so that she can always have that memory of her kissing the men she loved
Our Brulee first impression is her going to slash Nami face, eat Carrot, and such. She is scary and creepy allright.

The best "little" sister competition, was rigged as a lot of sisters are older so Flampe (36th daughter) had an edge over her older sisters like Brulee (8th daughter) in the competition.

Still my favorite arc. The only one who has the potential to surpass it is the final war arc

I personally think that Pudding removed Sanji's memory of the kiss because she didn't want to hold him back, despite how much she's grown to love him, especially since he's shown her empathy and genuine, unconditional kindness when no one else had in her life. The kiss, I think, was important because given they'd almost completed the ceremony, without the kiss the bride, which would make the marriage. This is probably something she desperately wanted once Sanji offered her friendship, so it meant a lot to her to kiss someone who has become very important to her, but she also knows that due to the circumstances of her family and his duty to his crew, she had to let him go, but not without having the one thing she'd wanted more than anything else while also knowing that it would keep him from leaving if he remembered it.
Pudding did something very admirable, but the bittersweet truth is that he wouldn't remember it; only she will and it's heartbreaking that the one person you love would never remember the most important and meaningful moment in your life and even them not remembering was a choice you made for them, so that they can move forward without having to look back.
remember when mondor said "even gold Roger can't escape from them" dealing with Luffy with some of his crew they can't even deal with gold Roger 🤭
We are finally done with Whole Cake island arc and it was great.
I know this is months behind but Big Moms family are rubbishes, but they still family that looks after each other

Only Oda can make me hate a character so much in the beginning and then feeling super bad for her in the end to the point where my eyes water. Pudding chan has it rough.
lots of characters in whole cake had that amazing duality. Katakuri started being edgy and serious but actually is a fan of doughnuts who hid his supposed "defects" to keep an image for their family and also to protect his siblings. Brulee looks like the evil witch of the fables but is a lovely sister for Katakuri. Pudding as well, even Big Mom somehow (however she lost a lot of her innocence and good traits a long time ago)
This is THE best One Piece episode in my opinion!
Being specified, it’s the best dramatic and cinematic episode that held so much emotions along with that opera song.. meh what else can I say
I do not know why but I suspect that Pudding felt those memories would either restrict or oppress Sanji (whatever word you'd use) and prevent him from being able to leave WCI without her.
So to avoid being a burden she took those memories.
I think Oda has some plan with those memories and who gets them if anyone.
This episode was what solidified my liking Pudding in the end.
The head pat Nami told Luffy to use on Carrot when she stowed away before Whole Cake started, being used by Carrot to cheer up Sanji is so heartbreakingly sweet. The Pudding scene is depressingly sweet too.
I hope Wano lives up to your expectations, it's a bit controversial among the readers. Basically the highs are really good, the lows are really low.
I believe I understand why Pudding took Sanji's memories. Here's my theory:
She wants this moment to hold on to for when he's gone, but she fears that if she kisses him, he'll feel guilty about leaving her behind, or worse, that he'll chose to stay wit her instead of following his heart and be with hos friends. By doing this, she can get her moment and hold on to it(litterally), while still setting him free.
Im glad this arc is over, only because it make me Hungry just by watching it

I feel like I’m the only person who was literally torn apart by the part when Sanji and pudding kissed it was just really sad how she had to erase his memory. It will always be one of the most sad moments for me. It’s not that sad, but still tears me apart every time.

this episode is why i love Pudding. she's annoying, yes. she has tons of problems, yes (who in this show doesnt??).
but despite her bipolar nature and warring personalities, she still lets herself be true to her feelings and kiss Sanji. i wont be going into how weird that is because the age gaps in One Piece are WHACKY and a story for another day, but that kiss was incredibly well done.
As much as it hurts that she took the memory away from Sanji, it makes sense. if she let Sanji remember it, she had no way of knowing if he would actually escape with his crew even after all the help she gave him, and she didn't want that.
she put his desire to return to the Sunny over her own desire to be with him. that shit is HARD to do, especially when she 100% could have just given away their hiding spot and get the Big Mom Pirates to force him into marriage with her.
in a way, Pudding emotionally matured like 10 years over this arc, and i'm really proud of her.

Exactly!!!! I wrote in my comment too that if she matured this way in a couple of hours- so much so that she selflessly did this all because she knew how much it meant to Sanji to escape and be with his nakama again-imagine how much more mature she’ll be when they inevitably reunite again 🥹

I have said it before, but you really should watch a video by GrandLine Review called the true victor between Katakuri and Luffy. It is amazing at all the small details he explains. Best fight out of any show
I havent watched that, but in MY opinion Luffy's final answer determined the victor.
If Luffy said he wouldnt come back to beat her, or some variation, Kata wouldve finished him right there. But Luffy said he's going to be the Pirate King, of course he'd beat her. I think in Kata's mind right there he realized Luffy will never give up and he'd be unable to win.
Luffy's answer showed that he'd never back down, which I think Katakuri accepted as both a "I wont be able to stop this guy" and a "I can accept losing to this guy"

Blaming brulee for wanting to save and protect her family is weird I wouldn't say she sucks tbh
Pudding showed her true self with her act of selfish selflessness at the end. From her perspective, everything that happened to Sanji was against his will and consent. You can interpret her act in two ways, either she managed to understand Sanji to such an extent that she knew her love would get in the way of his freedom, or she actually doesn't think that he loves her like she loves him, (which he doesn't).
Either way, the kiss was her being "selfish" and wanting that from him and to show him how she really felt. Her taking the memories was to not burden him with any more stuff that's against his will.
Either way, Oda may say he's not good at writing romance, but I really love how he wrote this.
Plus, I'm still holding out hope that Sanji and Pudding will get together in the end.

Question: Shouldn't Sea stone or the sea in general bring back Sanji's lost memories since a devil fruit caused it?
It's possible that you would need to knock her out or put her in the sea instead in a similar way to Sugar. Then again there was Moriahs zombies🤷🏽♂️
I don't think it's gonna work like that bro, for example sea stone and the sea itself can neutralize the power of devil fruit user but can't neutralize the damages that the devil fruit caused,
so his lost memories have an equal like someone lost their limbs after fight the devil fruit user, the sea stone or sea in general can't bring back what they've lost
If Ace burns someone and they go in sea water the burn wont go away.

So if Pudding by some chance accidentally gets her powers neutralized by the sea shouldn't that return the memories of those she took since she's constantly holding onto them? Similar to Gecko and Hobby devil fruit
