Hi Jasper, I am from US and raced in the Netherlands back in the late 1980s. Your video brought back many memories of the insanity of Dutch criterium racing! Great video!
Jasper, I was born in Hi Ambacht about 59 years ago and lived there for 18 years, still visit family over there. I didn't know there was a regular race there. Fun to watch the familiair route and houses. This lap is not long at all, crazy making corners again and again. Very nice explanation again.
Don't think I could be a crit rider. Don't have the top end in wattage needed to sprint. I'm going to do a 6-hour race in three months where holding a constant level of wattage is the key and better fits me. Hats off to you for doing these races. You know a lot already and pick up interesting tidbits along the way.
Love the narration, Jasper. Your commentary on tactics and how you moved about in the pack is really helpful. I'm older than you, so my racing days are over.....but my cycling days won't be until I am 🤣 I've been subbed to your channel, but somehow missed that you are a pilot. Good stuff. My son flies jets, too.......F/A-18s. I love to see anyone who flies. Would have loved to have piloted a plane - even a Cessna would've been cool. Anyway, love the channel. Keep it up.
fantastic video...seems like we are actually in the race.good explanatory voice over.tht camera might be disturbing your aero dynamic..hahaha.just kidding.keep it up.
Great job bro....sometimes it's better to go back to the basics for a while and learn what u must, then go back to road racing when you're ready. Remember the reason why u love cycling and let that carry u...see ya 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Wow, sick race! Moar! Frantic and more exciting than the US crits not to say that those are bad, big fan of Jeff Linder's North Cal videos as well. Subscribed :) Do you Zwift as well?
Intense racing, you guys are right on each other, the course is very technical and the pace is really high. Even if I had your fitness (which I don't), this would be far too terrifying for me, no thanks. Also, I don't recognize many of the bike brands out there, must be a lot of local Dutch stuff!
That was super interesting about the cornering technique when you’re hanging back. Shame it doesn’t work at the front or you could save a lot of energy!
move up Speedplays have the best corner clearance. what kind of pressure did you run in your tires? The guy in the blue Alecto shorts keeps opening a gap. Is this the Dutch equivalent of Cat 1? You are at the front, Yea
Its; quite something to ride a several days race, then have to sprint in the end. but also something to ride at your top end, then still have to sprint at the end.
Hey Jasper and Cycling Fanatics! 🤙 Recently I started training on my sprints. I have a problem with finding the right rhythm/momentum when I'm out of the saddle. Do you have any tips on how to improve? 🚲
greeting! consider moving to Holand (Amsterdam probably) and live there for a few year, is it easy to find cycling clubs to ride with on daily/weekly basis? :)
ive got 175 but actaully thinking about getting shorter cranks, i"m hitting pedals on the ground a lot lately..... but its an expensive thing to just replace
@@jasperverkuijl I was just wondering mate. It is expensive, but I'm guessing might help...at the very least it might allay a bit of that trepidation that comes in the corners after you smack your pedals against the ground once or twice.
What camera do you use here? and what tires you recommend for crits? race was ultra fast. dam. whouldn´t be suprised if you had to change tires after that. :D nice effort, i whould be dead after 3 laps or so. best thing i ever pushed on a spinning-bike was 1100 Watts for a few secounds.
I rode for Dutch Team in 91. 80km of pain.... BUT..... not as intense as crits in UK. Come over and have a go with our Elite crits....shorter 40km but average speed generally around 45- 50kph.
Our avarage speed is about that over 80-100km haha. but I know what you mean, I've races the Rapha Nocturne in Copenhagen, that was only 1hour crit. There was a Pro team from UK that was drilling it at the front the entire hour! it was crazy fast! But I don't think one or the other is harder or easier.... its both very tough
Jasper, of course it is easy to say for me sitting at the computer and being a big mouth but I don`t ever remember you trying actually and start a move or an attack yourself. Wouldn`t be fun to see if you could make a break with the help of someone? That I would like to see. You don`t feel strong enough or maybe just don`t trust in your abilities enough but there is something to learn in failure too. Anyway congratulations on the race and thanks for another "Video Analysis"
yup. I'm not assertive enough. Usually try to let others close gaps and been holding off a lot. but its not really working haha. I have a race video from usa coming in a bit with a big bridge from myself to a strong breakaway.
@@jasperverkuijl yes most crits eg D grade could be 30mins + 2 laps , C grade 40mins + 2 laps, B grade 50mins+ 2 laps, A grade ( or elite) 60mins + 2 laps. and on most courses there are multiple grades racing at the same time, so on a 2km lap could have 3 grades racing
Hey Jasper, great job! However, get the saddle problem fixed, because it not only is uncomfortable, you're also tiring yourself out. You really have great potential as a crit racer. Have a nice Sunday!
Jasper what would you do if you go for a prime and then you notice an open gap? Do you wait for one of the riders to attack while you recover or keep tempo pace after the sprint effort?
lot of times there will be an attack after the prime. because there will be a few riders in need for recovery and they are vulnerable at that time. so don't sprint 100%, have something left to get on a wheel!
Ik wil ook meedoen aan wedstrijden maar de dichtstbijzijnde wielervereniging is 25 kilometer verderop hoe kan ik zonder club meedoen? Ik ben wel pas 16.
All I wanna know is the name of the 6 people who disliked this. Why?! What to dislike in this video. I am curious! Great race, crazy paste, sharp turns and freaky high speed! 👊🏼😉
The headbutting makes me sad. I can understand the use of shoulders and maybe a little elbow action but headbutting should be an instant DQ. Probably not a popular opinion but it is the way I feel. Thanks for the video

yeah was a super short lap! 850m or something!
The potential to crash on courses like this is so high.......people are going millimetres next to other peoples wheels. crazy
great video.
Gives the observer a bit of reality of what the speed and reaction time is like. Thank you for sharing.
Love all the explanations you give, fun to watch and motivational too!
nice video from Dutch ground..i think it's always relaxing to watch your video's keep it up i think crit's are your thing too
Great Video. I love the way you analyze your race and what to improve. I'm sure you will find your success if you keep trying. Keep it up!
thanks

Awesome man!! I'd love to fly a fighter jet one day 🤗🤗🤗
Tell your son to take you out on a spin on that Cessna, will be fun 👍
LOL the guy with the clonking sounds from his bike had a bibshort with TU delft. That makes me smile Jasper, again a nice in depht video.
maybe they can scientifically check out his bike at the TU ;)
Great footage and commentary Jasper - I'd just like to say that every race has a learning CURVE in it! lol

Love it! Such good racing, sounds like you're due for a trip to Australia for some of their crits!!
haha yeah cool!!
Great video Jasper! Be safe out there... a lot of risky moves happening in those Dutch crits! 😳
Nice, I grew up there, you were doing laps around my old primary school, and rode on the road I lived on until I was 8.
Praat dan Nederlands
want dan kan iedereen het begrijpen? engels is prima!
Man you can put out watts! Im amazed there weren't more crashes. It's a bummer about the recurring seat post problem.
nice one bro. try not to be so bummed about the road races, you're the man at both.
👍👍👍 great footage Jasper , keep posting crit race 😍
Better luck next time jasper !!!...we also learned a couple things 🤙👍🤙
Lekker dude! Keep it up!! Vette video as always
That was a great video! live and learn. Check to see if your right crank arm is longer ha ha ha
hahaha

Your either crazy or just looking for danger!! (both obviously awesome!). Damn! Super crazy these crits!

you need to dance on the bike ✌

There is a few clubs but not so many grouprides I think
These races look mental :)
You're a tall guy. Do you shorten your crank arms for crits or roll with, I'm assuming, 175s?

Nice videos thanks.
thats alot of laps!!!!!! most crits here in Australia are 30-50km so maybe 1 hour racing. 2 hours of surging like that, super strong
what category is that?? our lower catergory is about 60km and elite is always 80,90 or 100km
@@jasperverkuijl any category. Crits are short and sharp in Australia (e.g. 30, 45 or 60 minutes +3 laps).

Wow nobody keeps his line
i can never get the software to get the gps correct in crits
its the worst!....
Not to sound too cliche, but I’m not a big fan of the background music. Just some feedback from me, but maybe others disagree
heyyoooo
I think you shouldn't have sprinted for 7th place in the preme.Maybe save your legs for the finish maybe you could of gotten 10th place?
Heftig man. Je moet goed kunnen sturen en veel lef hebben
I guess Slag in Dutch doesn't mean the same as Slag in English haha
haha, no it means "Battle of Ambacht" What the Australian took literally
It means 'battle' lol
Theres like no lean riders
