- The new Marlin Model 1895 Dark Series in 45-70 Gov't is a tactical version of the classic lever action rifle. Modernizing the lever action rifle has a lot of advantages for hunting and self defense. The Dark Series gives you all the upgrades right out of the box.
Big thank you to Marlin for sending the Dark Series 45-70 for the review and to Fiocchi for supplying the ammo. @marlinfirearms @FiocchiUSA #Leveraction #4570 #Darkseries

Well, if Darth Vader ever decides he wants a Marlin...
Yes, it's why it make its the best model
There won't be a single one in stock, never. Darth has to make it work with traditional ways
@@kybbe112Why do they even release cool shit when they’re not gonna make any? Or maybe a handful of them and you find one, one time, in an overpriced fudd shop in the middle of boonefucknowhere
They're available on the website currently??? Other than .44 which I'm curious about.
I've got the Marlin 45-70 "guide gun" with a 19" barrel. This thing must be even more wild with a 16".
Like the "Trapper" series also. 1895 TSBL.
How much do you think that 3" affects ballistics? From what Im seeing its not much?
Just picked my 45-70 Marlin dark up today been looking for one for months. Never will let it go I know what I have and it’s a treasure.
I have a Marlin Dark “Remlin” in 45-70. Manufacture date 2020. Can’t fault it. Love it.
Those are gonna go up in value. Hold on to that 👍
It was difficult for me to get one in .357, since 45-70 is almost impossible to find and overly expensive in my country (Spain).
Only problem I see with mine is the stiffness of the loading gate, since I cannot use it enough to soften it.
I have one as well…I bought the new one yesterday and it feels like a toy compared to the original dark series….the new one doesn’t come with a sling like the og version…doesn’t have a large loop…mine came with a thread protector that didn’t even fit the damn gun, the muzzle brake wasn’t even screwed on right, the screw was missing for the hammer extension so I can’t even use it….you know you’ve got a paid off video when someone says Ruger put Marlin back on the map or pretty much anything positive about the new marlins….their junk compared to what we were getting just 5 years ago and before
damn, that's super disheartening to read... been hyping myself up to get a new 1895 dark, but now not so sure...@@Whispertactical
@@whitebuffalo4904 I just wanna be clear that I haven’t shot it yet…Im very disappointed with the gun compared to my old one but I will make a video on it soon because I need to make sure that people get an unpaid review of this gun since the cost is upwards of $2500 right now which is not worth it at all, that’s just absolutely absurd to me
I need something that can bring down a Sasquatch. Is this a good round?
Years ago I worked at Marlins when they were on Willow st, New Haven, CT. and then No. Haven, CT.
I like this modern touch on a classic!
Nice looking rifle. The one thing that has been lost that made the lever action Americas rifle is the fact they were once affordable. Many 30-30 lever actions hit the deer woods because you could buy them at your local department store or hardware store at a decent price. That has certainly been lost with the Ruger/Marlin era. This particular model even takes the route of the cheaper Cerakote finish and injection molded plastic furniture. Doesn't seem to transfer to the bottom line however. And I don't get the obsession with the 45-70 cartridge choice either. I had higher hopes with this rebirth but it doesn't look like the focus was really on making it an American icon again. I used to think Henry was the rich man's lever action. Ruger came along and said you ain't seen nothing yet.
Nothing is cheap anymore.
Sign of the times, unfortunately.
They haven't been $400 since Remington bought them out. I bought a 94 trapper before Ruger bought out Marlin, it was $1200.
Very nice Sootch, i love lever-action guns, since i was a little boy i was always fascinated by the Wild West legends, i am very proud to see that you keep this tradition alive. Your Channel will always have my like, you do an amazing work, glad to see that there a still an army of patriots ready to fight for freedom, cheers from Brazil.
Thanks Joao! I Always appreciate your comments. 👍
I herd word that now that Ruger has bought Marlin, I herd that Marlin will be making side by side shotguns using the L.C Smith brand. It makes since because Ruger is the main sponsor for CASS (Cowboy Action Sport Shotimg ). If it’s true, it will be a wise move on Ruger/ Marlin.
@@richardespinoza6243 very cool, i wish i could buy these guns, but i live in Brazil.
Great review, man!
Thank you for going into the details that you did with the bolt.
Thanks Ryan!
Glad people like it 😊
If it wasn't for ruger that great marlin name would have gone the way of Remington.
Pretty cool. I’ve got the trapper and want to keep it pristine. This dark series but in 30-30 is one I’m going to look into, sometime in 2024. $1300 is a bit pricey but decking out a SBL or Trapper with Ranger Point products will bring the total cost north of that $1300. Thank you for the review.
Look at the hole that put in the target, that would leave a mark! Love the lever actions, great video Sootch!
Thanks buddy good review.
Ruger really has preserved the name of Marlin with outstanding workmanship with the lever actions. I can’t wait to get the 30-30, but since quality takes time and they are in high demand, I understand why it’s taking a while to show up at the dealers.
I have the original Marlin Guide gun... Love it.
Remington started the Dark Series and made their butt and forearm stock out of Walnut. Painted with Black Spyder paint. The lever gun had heft and was tough as nails. Ruger makes theirs like the cheaper copy cat Henry made with plastic stocks just like this one made by Ruger!! The Remington Dark Series lever guns sold for around $730. This was only four years ago!!
Torx screws. Great idea. Unlike my Henry in 44 magnum, were the slot screws come loose after 18 shots and must be tightened up, or they will fall out and jam up the rifle.
Definitely going to trade up to a Marlin. Love that Ruger parent company.
Awesome marlin 1895 4570 rifle thanks for sharing sootch00
I have been looking for this beauty every where and I’m having no luck! Can’t wait till I finally find one
They hit it out of the park with this one! I want one bad but not paying gun broker prices right now.
Sootch, Love your videos brother. Keep them coming 👍🏼🔥🇺🇸
Thanks Mike!
Another great review !! Thanks
Love it! Great video once again! Thanks brother!
God bless all here.
Fantastic rifle and options ruger is awesome
Looks wicked with the ACOG
I’ve fired a few lever action rifles but never owned one. I’m really liking this one just based on majority of the reviews I’ve seen
Sooo jealous that you got the opportunity to shoot this. I will be looking for it.
Marlin needs to offer this in 357mag/38spl for the folks who want it to maximize suppressor efficacy
Oh that is a beautiful thumper! I've been looking to add a lever action to the safe, I absolutely love the manual action and, if I'm honest, the wild west nostalgia 🤠
Lever actions are so handy and fast. Wearing a cowboy hat makes it even better! lol! Thanks David~
There is something I like about the looks of this rifle but Just can't beat wood imo lol
I made mistake of selling my Ruger .44 magnum semi-auto carbine. I dont regret it, I sold it to buy a Benelli Super Nova, I didnt own a shotgun at the time, and I wasnt thrilled with the tube fed. It was gnarly truck gun but no magazine wouldnt make it very effective when seconds matter. I made a video on it like 15yrs ago and it still gets comments on the regular, people really like them. This Marlin looks like a winner, at least i thought so till I looked at the price. I think Id be happier with a used Spear lol.
Love it. Nice lever action
Beautiful and Powerful Rifle 💯
Looked on their website and didn’t see any planned releases for a .357/.38S model. That’s what I would like to have in the dark series
Love this rifle!
Ruger and Marlin, are both, part of firearms Americana! And these new rifles are awesome! Its hard not to run get one!
I thought i'd never want another lever action, until now!
Very Cool Gun
Thanks for the video ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Oh wow. That dog barks and bites.😊 Thanks for the video that is a fine rifle.😊
I need one of these. I’ll put a Ranger point Precision ammo quiver on the m-lock rail, probably upgrade the but stock too
Got a standard guide gun, she's a beast. Two bucks per trigger pull
Very cool rifle, still love the OG rifle though
Great way to start my day, hope yall are doing well 🙏 ❤
Thanks Willyjilly! Hope you do as well!
Beautiful rifle.
Carbine M1 semi Auto the best one rifle during Vietnam war …Thanks for sharing.( ARVN Veterans) 👍🇺🇸🇫🇷🇨🇦🇦🇺🇹🇼
This is one. 😎🤘 BAD ASS 🤘😎 rifle
Great vid. I think I just found my next purchase...in 44 mag.
Thanks
Great video!
This video make me want to watch Serenity again.😊
Great gun. If only they make .454 casull in the future than Marlin + Taurus Raging Hunter in .454 is my dream tactical cowboy set.
Looking forward to this in 30-30.
Thank you Don! Excellent content and knowledge as usual Sir.
Thanks Todd!
I love the cross bolt safety to remind me if its a live one in the chamber.
Picked mine up last Tuesday. Very first, brand new, I mean spitting brand new rifle, I've ever owned. Made a shirt video shooting it and so far, can't complain.
How much did you pay for it? I've seen them go for 2400
@@Jblandon162I paid 1240 for mine, but it's broken now. The front end points where screws go into to hold the handguard in BROKE!!!. waiting for marlin to respond
@@boredvetgood price but that’s nuts if it’s a defect
That is so nice setup, I have a cowboy, but 45-70 ammo is a killer in cost if you can find it.
Lotta good places to get it you just have to know where to look, a few places where I live carry 45-70 regularly.
Online shopping is easy breezy, PSA and SGAmmo are my usual go toos
Love action got the centennial 3030 Canada model ❤ etching
I like it. I still think I like the 1895 SBL better
Man I need to add one of these to go with my cowboy limited.
a real stopper
What is the best watch for SHTF, Grid down for multiple years, teotwawki preparedness?
I'd like to see a bullet velocity comparison between your 20" and 16" models.
Always enjoy your informative reviews. 🙂
Hey Sootch what kind of optic do you have on that Marlin? Nice setup!!!!
Had one in the store I work at, the day I decided to put it in layaway, someone had bought it. Can’t believe I let it slip through my hands.
Always great videos, I value your time. I have a question. You are doing a deliberate cock to fully engage the mid cock. Is this a part of the break in process, or is it the nature of the nature of the flat tipped ammo to jam if you are in Rifleman speed mode?
can we get these but in a dark wood stock, like the old Remlin Dark series.
love to see woox make a stock for this gun.
This 45-70 lever action rifle make me feel stronger.
The mini ACOG on that rifle looks sweet! It's a very unique vibe. I can't wait to pick up a modern 'tactical' version of one of these lever actions.
Waiting for this to come out in 30 30
I haven't experienced 45-70 yet. Those are some BIG holes! 14:16
Really nice rifle,,,,
New range? Nice berms!
Another great review! Do they have it in 357mag or 44 mag???
Got it finally.
Two months ago.
Not an easy one to find.
Great but cost off ammo is nuts)
I want this so bad. So hard to get in CA especially
Very nice, classic meets modern!
Just ordered one. Only 2 week wait time and under MSRP. Plan on reloading and looks like I can reload for about a buck a round
What optic did you have mounted? What other optics would you suggest for the .45-70
Oh no, enough with the 45-70 's!!!! We're not gonna hunt down Godzilla. Ruger, give us a Marlin SBL in .357 Mag. already. Not a 1894! A nice, ergonomic, stainless steel SBL in .357 Magnum. It can't be that hard.
Waiting for the Marlin Model 336 Dark Series 30 30.
I hope they do a Dark Series in 357/44 mag! Great video as always thanks!
They did in the Remington era. The painted wood stock is heavy, and loading gat is stiff, but mine works flawlessly, for now.
The recoil seemed pretty mild. What load are you firing? Cowboy action loads? Can’t blame you if they are. Just wondering. They don’t look full power.
Yeah, these load are easy on the shoulder but their field dynamic rounds are pretty stout. I have some Winchester Bear Claw 45-70 that will rock your world! 🤣
Now! to actually find one..
What is the bag/backpack in the thumbnail. Great video as always sootch!
I want hte 38 357 with all that... but I don't want it tactical black.
I'd take differnet colours. Gimm a purple one. or two tone black and silver.
realistically though, I thinki can take the back and fore and paint those separately maybe
Great channel and video, there's a couple videos that mention rust on these dark series rifles. Apparently they started to rust in the safe, what's your thoughts on this?
Use mineral oil
I like my gen. 1 Remington Dark series much better. A few Ranger Point Precision upgrades and I think it's a superior rifle to the new Ruger made ones. I do like the looks of the new Ruger / Marlin Trapper though.
Ruger’s customer service, at least in my experience, is exceptional. I hope they keep buying more gun companies.
I definitely love Ruger's guns, as the GP100 in .357 Magnum (which ol' Sootch had done a video of) is my favorite of theirs. so with that said i'm actually planning on buying this rifle for my 45th birthday (sooner if they get them in-stock and the price lowers somewhat)
Wish it was in stock
Hey sootch00 can you do a review on the century arms Draco 9s it’s the model that uses scorpion mags
Been enjoying the updates on lever action rifles! I'd be interested in a 44mag 👍
I want a Marlin Dark in 327 Federal Magnum
Damm i never get notification for your vids anymore
Well, mine broke. Handguard popped off. Front end where the two screws go to hold the handguard up completely broke off. Waiting on Marlins response.
What is the optic model and mount? great video!
Was that 30A a Marlin Glenfield? I've got one I've had for 35 years.
Can't believe how expensive these lever guns have gotten!
Better too expensive than not available; )
