I paint crankbaits for fun and profit .... A couple of weeks ago I traded 10 painted cranks for a dozen glide bait blanks. I need to get busy and paint up a few and try them out. I've never tried fishing one. Thanks for the tips !
Over here I have to fish My Glide baits with a thin steel leader because the big pike love them and routinely smash them.. don't catch many bass because of this but they still follow and give themselves away to be caught later ...the split screen was amazing thank you
With a Dremel cutter / blade you can cut the side angles more to a 90° angle and work the bait a lot quicker / more irratic . Did this mod to couple of my Swimbaits 😊
I appreciate this video Steve. Years ago I bought some of the S Wavers and tried to get bit on them. I have never caught a fish on a glide bait. I think this video gave me some insights on what I was doing wrong. I was using heavy gear and the bait probably didn't have the right action. I need to get them back out and start over now. I never got the retrieve right either. I have the right gear now for them and will try them out again. Thanks for the great underwater footage and the sync you did to show how your retrieved them.
I'm glad it was helpful. It is amazing how just the smallest difference in the amount of slack line makes a big impact on how the lure behaves. Good luck! Let me know how it goes for you.
As a casual/fun amateur fisher, I like watching others throw these, but I just can’t get myself to spend the money. Very interesting facts and video Steve. Thank you.
One of the best things I noticed about a glide bait is their ability to attract fish. Even if they don't bite, you know the bass are in the area and you can pick up another presentation to work that spot. It's a great way to locate bass, especially if you don't have any electronics.
My very first practice cast along the dock there had three 2 lb'ers follow it all the way back. Just like you said, they didn't smash it but I knew where they were hanging out. That lure had them so curious.
Love these larger baits in central Florida waters. They really bring the fish in for a look. If you learn to throw these baits youll be in the best fishing shape youve ever been in. They will wear the average angler out if they try to toss it all day by itself. I follow up with a damiki before i leave an area ive been working the glide through they hit the damiki so pissed off from the glide bait intruder
I always throw my glides in shallow clear water & play with them at first so I know what my rod & reel actions do to change the retrieves.. Their all different . I don't throw a lot of different baits. For hard baits I've been throwing klash 9's, baitsanity chimera shad, explorer gen2. Have been very successful with all 3 but the K9 is definitely most versatile with changing lips& tails. I mostly fish it in glide mode without a lip& tail pointed down. Caught me most of all my biggest largemouth. Couple 7's an 8.05 - 8.6 & a 11.4 not to mention all the 4-5-6 pounders I've lost count of??? Big swimbaits has become one my favorite techniques in last few years. Give me a big swimbait, texas rigged soft plastics & a frog & I'm good to go! Fishing big worms has also gotten me big bites, my biggest on that is a 9.3. looking forward to seeing what glide baits your throwing & their retrieves...
He ain't lying... me too... 10.34lb, 9.3lb, & 9.1lb in the last ten days and lost another one with a head that looked like a 12lb+ bass to me... no kidding... You get what you pay for usually... Fishing lures & women are the main one's that are so very true in that saying...
Some anglers widen the opening of a multi-piece swimbaits. Simply cutting the plastic away 😊 Im dreaming of big Northern Pike trashing an Islide, Slide swimmer or Dowz swimmer. Maybe bc i order them in Japan 😂 and save me some €€ 😎👍. Using a seven strand leader (Drennan, Fox or Spro) prevents a 3 headshake ~its gone~ hookup 😂😂 Thanks for the video and im looking forward to a follow ups during the summer. Happy fishing 😁👌🎣
i so want to catch a bass on glide and wake baits. i try it for like an hour here and there and give up. ive had one on at a pond while i was trolling behind my friends boat half asleep from fishing all night . lol. it got off though
Big baits, like glides/swimbaits/big rat wakebaits...it's a SERIOUS addiction! Once u catch your first bass on a big bait, it's over...i just cant quit buying big baits 😂 quite the lure junkie...Surprisingly enough, the Bass Pro Shops Swerve glidebait has great action..it's a big bait & for under $20...it's a no brainer...awesome colors, too....something special about catching fish on big baits...1-2 lb bass aren't afraid, either..caught a 2 lb. on a 10" Rat wakebait
I dont get some guys. Wont throw a 20$+ glide bait but theyre willing to lose 3 jackhammers in a day. Doesnt make.much sense. Of course if youve got a boat and a lute knocker it helps a lot but ive still lost baits from the boat. Lost a lot more from the bank. But i live throwing things where they shouldnt be because thats usually where i gind my biggest bites. This is one reason the swim jig is my usual go to bait its so versatile i can put it anywhere shallow deep grass wood fast slow lots of action or very subtle. But im trying to venture out of that comfort zone and try other things. Just picked up a new lews heavy moderate rod for throwing bigger baits like glides and big swimbaits.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors yessir couldn't agree more. It always seems to work anytime a horizontal presentation is working. And then you can always drag it on bottom like a dying bait fish.

Thanks! Those pike are so aggressive when they see stuff like this. Lol. They own a lot of my baits.

That is excellent! I will have to do some playing around with that. Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate it.

These videos are gold! Added a big stick and a bunch of these to my arsenal this year. Great video!
Awesome! Let me know how it goes for you this season. Would love to hear your thoughts on them.

I saw a soft-bodied one the other day for $1,100. I never in my life would have thought I would see that.

It would be cool if you did a series on this, using different baits with video footage of each.
Definitely working on it for this year. Looking forward to putting it together.

STOP IT…. I am still trying to do the Strike King Baby Z Too and Okashira Jig Head 🤷♂️ I cannot afford to buy EVERYTHING you demonstrate 🤷♂️ LOL
That jig minnow will catch you a ton of fish for sure. And definitely a lot easier on the wallet.
