Translating Guitar to Piano

  • I started learning music on the guitar and it took me forever before I really tried to understand how my instrument fit into the broader spectrum of music theory. Once I DID everything opened up for me.
    If you're a guitar player thinking about diving into the keyboard - know this: It's more important to UNDERSTAND the piano roll than to actually be good at playing it.
    In this video I translate where the fretboard and piano roll overlap :)

    As a pianist, learning the fretboard on the guitar is like a lybirint

      I know! I'm trying to get better at guitar but it's so confusing, and the only videos (except this one), are piano for guitar players, like they gave up all hopes for piano players to learn guitar 😂

    • @Felipe..Vieira
      @Felipe..Vieira Месяц назад

      believe me, as a guitarist, its a lybirint for me too
      but you get used to it if you start seeing the fretbort vertically instead of horizontally as a piano
      you can reach like, 3 octaves, by staying in the same range of 4 or 5 frets going vertically

    I teach guitar a little and always recommend that my students sit down at a keyboard at some point to get some theory fundamentals, especially when it comes to chords. It’s much easier to visualise triads, extended chords, inversions and chord-scale relationships on a piano,

      It’s actually pretty transparent. As long as you know basic theory it’ll translate. I play guitar but I’ve been using piano to see things I guess more flat out and less redundant. If it’s root third fifth on guitar it’s the same to get a chord on a piano. Keep going, hope this helped some what

    This is great but what if your keyboard player is writing guitar parts like keyboard player and you have to figure out how to make what he wrote work on guitar? A chart going the other way (Piano to Guitar as opposed to Guitar to piano) would be great E.G. we know that C3 can be played on guitar at 6/8 and 5/3. So I'm looking for a chart that shows me where each key on the piano (in the range of the guitar) can be played on guitar. C3 can be played here, here, here and here. D3 is played here, here and here. and so on and so forth. Capish? Anyone know when I can find one of those? And don't say google because I've looked.

    I appreciate the video, but there are things that not everyone knows about the guitar, for example the range, in the standard E tuning, the range goes from E2 to C # 6 (22 fret) but with the harmonics you extend the guitar up (> C # 6) example, the harmonica at the fifth fret on the string of the E cantino ... (E6) while for the bass you can essentially choose 3 ways, drop tuning, a guitar with more lower strings (B, F # ...) or just use the powerchords (play an octave below the root) ...

    I wish I was taught piano before playing guitar. Since I’ve learned the piano all the chords seem intentional and the relationship between them is obvious. If you have a CMaj chord, just drop down the central note flat to make it minor. The guitar has seemed much more arbitrary the longer I play piano. Absolutely incredible and intuitive instrument.

    In some references, like intro of "Hell's Bells" (ACDC) www.tabs4acoustic.com/en/free-riffs/ac-dc-hell-s-bells-54.html, it looks like G4 note is located on the open string N3 of 6-string guitar. However, in other references, like here in the video, as well as in accordance with piano the G4 note is located on 3rd fret of 1st string. What's right?
