    Several times by coincidence at long shots I noticed she was in the same posture I was while watching (mostly hearing) DP. She was one of the best compere I can name in recent times (for Algebra) deftly shifting conversation fro one aspect to another without being intrusive. DP's pronunciation of sanskrit words is like a southerner's accent though his does not suggest so. His mention of Andaall and Thiruppaavai (again his pronuncation is as good as a Tamilian -Thamizhan - I bet he could pronounce this well too) shows how wide and deep he has gone about collected his "data-base". - In short 'impressed'

    Many of us criticize Devdutt Patnaik as anti hindu or mixing impurities in hindu. But we all know it is ones individual choice to follow Devdutt Patnaik or doesn't follow. So it is our choice. In indian constitution every individual have equal rights to express their thoughts. But for me his understanding of Hinduism and spirituality is far more depper, better than many of the audience present here and commenting.

      Devdutt is master in distorting Hindu Scriptures.... Superficially he sounds great...But in depth analysis shows that he is taking people away from Dharma... His book "My Gita" is full of such distortions.

    • @hrishikeshsen1141
      @hrishikeshsen1141 5 лет назад +3

      Personally I found My Gita quite boring, and that was before Rajiv Malhotra’s video. But that doesn’t mean all of his other works are also crap. He is a mythologist, who interprets Mythology from an academic POV as opposed to a spiritual one, which sometimes displeases readers as many only pick up books of this genre expecting the latter. So it’s understandable why people think he distorts myths, as he holds them up against an index of historical relevancy which contradicts the beliefs of people who carry these gods In their hearts. He measures the gods and their stories and practices which irritates some readers as they cannot accept the fact that these gods are nothing short of being immeasurable and infinite. He is allowed to interpret the myths as he wants. Lord Krishna told Arjuna that he was free to accept or reject his version of the Gita after pondering upon it. So it’s also up to the reader to decide if he wants to or doesn’t want to read Devdutt’s interpretations. But that doesn’t make it any less relevant for someone who chooses to accept it.

      @@hrishikeshsen1141 When it is already known that Devdutta is NOT the authentic source , then why waste reading his fiction? His POV is really so important? Why not directly learn from the authentic source?

    • @hrishikeshsen1141
      @hrishikeshsen1141 5 лет назад +3

      @@shaileshpkem80 Hello,
      1) To me it's important to learn the historical relevancy of these myths, because it gives us a glimpse into our ancestors' thoughts. Devdutt is the only source for that because as I said, he writes his books against the index of historical relevancy. He doesn't mask his stories with Bhakti as is seen with so many authors who write these kinds of books, but he tells the tales as they are. This makes him an AUTHENTIC *HISTORICAL* SOURCE, not a spiritual one.
      2) I am not looking for spiritual relevancy in his books, so I don't expect his books to be able to uplift me into higher states of consciousness, as HE IS NOT A SPIRITUAL LEADER, HE IS AN ACADEMICIAN/MYTHOLOGIST so his books are basically a collection of various myths and they are used to explain the socio-cultural evolution of Ancient India.
      3) Hinduism is Sanatan - it is eternal. Which also means that different people are free to interpret different things according to their understanding. That's why we have so many sampradayas (Vaishnava, Shaiva, Shakteya, Smarta, Ganapatya, Vedanti etc..) and no one can agree amongst each other because my truth may not be the next person's truth. How can one decided who is the authentic source in this context? To me, Devi is God. To someone else, Vishnu is God, or it could be Shiva. And they all have enough sources and scriptures to back their claims. Who is right? WHO is authentic? Who can tell?
      4) You and I can also write books on Hindu Mythology but that doesn't mean our ideas should be the same. If it were the same, it WOULDN'T BE FLEXIBLE, and when we begin to claim exclusivity to our truths like people of Abrahamic faiths, OUR TRUTH WILL NOT BE SANATAN/ETERNAL. So it would no longer be Hinduism.

Overall, this was a solo performance of Devdutt about Hinduism and how Hinduism is great. We should also learn to face the hard questions such as Cast system in previous interview.

    There is no judgement in indogenic religions, because it believes that the SELF is atman, the mind and body is the baggage of hardware and software as a result of past experiences and emotional reactions to those experiences through several lives which we call Karma and sanskar. You cannot judge a rabid dog, who bites (because of catching rabies ),as evil. He cannot help behaving like he does because he has caught a disease. In the same way, humans behaviour is determined by his past experiences ( in this life and past lives), therefore you cannot judge . However, just as you will not keep a rabid dog loose in your house( it will be foolish), you cannot let people with bad sanskar
    loose in your territory, because they wud infect others, cause trouble etc. Therefore you have to protect your territory ,but without hatred towards the other
