In is very difficult for South Asian LGBTQ community to be who they are most of the time. I came out to my parents 5 years ago and they still haven’t accepted it, they don’t acknowledge it. I secretly married the love of my life and we both moved away from home which is Toronto to live our lives a little bit openly. We both are Pakistani. When we visit home, we have to pretend to be single and straight. It sucks. I think a major player in all of this is the lack of awareness and that fact that homosexuality exists and is normal. My biggest fear is my parents feeling ashamed of me in front of extended family/friends. I love my family and can’t see them go through it, hence I stay closeted for the most part.
I really appreciate you guys raising awareness on this matter by being out and about. I envy your confidence and the ability to be who you are without any fear. Good luck :))

Religion plays a big role and is almost always the major or sole driving force behind the non acceptance of the LGBTIQ community...it's sad, but that's the harsh truth...more power to you!! Hope your parents one day see beyond their beliefs and accept you as who you are!! Good luck! 😊
