You get the script, you read it and get a feel for it then you can say yes or no to it. She said in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that she read the script and she didn’t even want it in her house, meaning it was just as intense and informative reading it than acting in it.

To be honest it seems like she is a good actress. Good at emoting and expressing but not intellectual enough for this conversation to be able to match Aronofsky's thoughts she looks like she feels off and probably insecure that way. Also they do not seem to have the best in sync relationship the way some actor director duos have but overall they are both good at their jobs.

I saw this movie as an ode to "being a woman". Which, in a terrible way, shines light on how hard this was for Jennifer Lawrence to make at the hands of Darren Aronofsky. He somehow managed to capture the plight of being a woman, while also pushing his lead actress to the point where she physically injured herself. Jennifer Lawrence did the most amazing acting in this movie I've seen out of any movie in a while. To be a woman in society is to build something so cherished and loved (the house as symbolism in the movie) and to have a (well meaning) partner allow people in to rip it down. I LOVE that in this move they made the husband so caring and well-meaning, while also making him aloof and slightly unsettling. I am sure a lot of people have wonderful partners, but this is such a beautiful depiction of what it is like being a "sitting duck". You think your life is fulfilled and then people are wanting more, and more, and more. And how could a man understand? The theme of the "man of the house" opening up the home while the wife (who actually tends to the home) is flabbergasted by this intrusion, is so prevalent. She is the one making sure no one sits on the sink, she's the one noticing the blood on the floorboards. The husbands means well, he just has no attention to detail or anything that the wife holds sacred (her baby). The stare-down at the end gave me chills. He was meant to be so loving, so caring, and at the end all he cared about was putting what his wife created on display (as an extension of him). I'm not a "I hate all men" feminist, but I DO think this piece of art points to how many men are complicit in the display of women and what they think it means to "be a woman". They love their partners, but disregard any true fear they have and think everything can be "fixed". And notice, in the movie, he always says "you don't need to do that", in regards to her cleaning up, but never comes up with a solution to who will. I think this movie can also speak to the male experience, of feeling they need to be "bigger than they are" in the sense of fame and putting out things that will keep them in power and I LOVE the fact that the husband is the one trying to "nurture" random people (which is a societal female quality). He is in the balance of being powerful by showcasing his writing and being nurturing by letting people into his home for whatever reason (ex: he is dying, their son died let's let them have a memorial, they just want to see our son, etc). He has no idea how much the people outside his bedroom door idolize him....or does he? I could literally write an essay on this movie, but here I am, drunk, at 3 in the morning and fuck Darren Aronofsky for EVER making her uncomfortable.

Jennifer Lawrence has always felt like a breath of fresh air in all Hollywoodness, and I keep bursting with laughter whenever I watch an interview with her or something -- but it's nice to see a bit more grounded side for once, too. This interview actually made me want to watch the movie.

She’s definitely traumatized. Directors really are detached and only care about themselves and the project. They just don’t acknowledge the human experience in the project unless it’s their own. That’s why he can push her and push her. As an actor. You must protect the project yes, but please protect yourself and set boundaries. As good as the movie may have been. To her it wasn’t worth it.
Yep I’ve noticed a lot of directors have a vision that is far from reality or the human experience but they have this genius idea in their head which is almost always political and using characters as plot drivers towards their thesis. Sadly some of these directors are put up the highest and most supported in the industry. The true passion and art of acting and film is telling a story that also has human elements .. that yes stirs emotion but isn’t just about making a statement while shocking and traumatizing others in the process. You can still create something profound without being disturbing imo but most directors have odd complex ideas over such trivial ideas and details.. it’s no wonder they resort to hurting the crew and actors to drive a performance because they become too focused on accomplishing their vision rather than letting the talent bring the script to life. However every set, film and director has its obstacles but it just seems like some of the most well known and praised directors behave this way.. tons of god complex fed to them by their industry and so many shameless tantrums smh

They way this director created an entire movie about the abuse of a woman as a metaphor for pointless destruction by a powerful man... while abusing his power as a director of his lead actress to injure and traumatize her for the sake of creation. She references it and he down plays it for the camera. The irony.

To me, the movie was about a narcissist and an empath, she restored his life. He benefits from her love and devotion and then allows the world to destroy everything she built for him. He allows her to be ravaged and her only child to be torn in pieces. As she lay dying, she confesses there is still love for him in her beating heart, so he rips it out of her as a trophy. A narcissist only craves love, adoration, and praise they have nothing to give back.
This movie was a modern day Rosemary's baby, that I throughly enjoyed. It made me very emotional with some of the characters. Wow, I was yelling at the people in this movie.

I have never had a movie leave me feeling shook the way this one did. I can't even say that I liked it, I'm not sure if I did or not, but it had me hooked and I'll never forget how it made me feel. Everyone misunderstanding the two references of Jane Ayre and The Wide Sargosso Sea, I'll summarize their connection and why Jennifer is correct in the premise of men draining the strength of women: Jane Ayre tells a story told by Mr. Rutherford about his "crazy" first wife Bertha, how he never loved her and why he was justified to lock her in a tower for ten years. The Wide Sargosso Sea tells the story through Bertha's, actually Antoinette, perspective that she was just like Jane but more fierce and less stable, and Mr. Rutherford indeed did squelch her spirit, tame the shrew with force, until she went mad. Jane Ayre doesn't tell this whole story but Wide Sargosso Sea does and they're connected.

I think it's funny that she said that the movie is feminist because as somebody who often finds myself on the opposite side of modern feminism, I very quickly realized how profoundly feminist this movie really is. Not in a pandering way but in an unflinchingly honest way. I learned a lot from this movie. It is showing feminism(as in what it means to be a female) in its purest form and how it is manipulated and taken advantage of Ed in many ways shows why modern feminism is bastardized as it has become in some respects was completely necessary and inevitable due to men's arrogance and apathy. At the same time it also shows how women can and will trample other women when given the chance. This movie is profoundly deep and has genuinely changed the way I see numerous aspects of existence. I also find it very disturbing and how the director who is the one who created this groundbreaking vision is doing the same thing to Jennifer Lawrence the husband did to her in the movie in this interview. I guess saying something about life imitating art would be fitting.

She’s definitely traumatized. Directors really are detached and only care about themselves and the project. They just don’t acknowledge the human experience in the project unless it’s their own. That’s why he can push her and push her. As an actor. You must protect the project yes, but please protect yourself and set boundaries. As good as the movie may have been. To her it wasn’t worth it.
Yep I’ve noticed a lot of directors have a vision that is far from reality or the human experience but they have this genius idea in their head which is almost always political and using characters as plot drivers towards their thesis.
Sadly some of these directors are put up the highest and most supported in the industry. The true passion and art of acting and film is telling a story that also has human elements .. that yes stirs emotion but isn’t just about making a statement while shocking and traumatizing others in the process. You can still create something profound without being disturbing imo but most directors have odd complex ideas over such trivial ideas and details.. it’s no wonder they resort to hurting the crew and actors to drive a performance because they become too focused on accomplishing their vision rather than letting the talent bring the script to life. However every set, film and director has its obstacles but it just seems like some of the most well known and praised directors behave this way.. tons of god complex fed to them by their industry and so many shameless tantrums smh

Its weird also how almost all her answers to the questions were in opposition to the Darren guy like she said she found it hard to snap out of her role more so than in other movies she has done but darren in another question said that she was good at snapping out of her role. She said it was too much about the intensity of the movie albeit in a laughing it off kind of manner. He didnt even deny that and said in order words quite brusquely intensity is needed to get desired results. He disregarded her experience completely and offhandedly . she talks about feminism and dark motives in life with reference to the victorian era, about a womens strength being slowly drained away by men who are seemingly innocent at first. something about that resonated with her enough for her to voice it and he natters on about the aesthetics of the movie and seems to relish the darkness of the movie with more pleasure the creepier the movie is than that the movie actually tells a moral or lesson behind it all. To me, the movie was about a narcissist and an empath, she restored his life. He benefits from her love and devotion and then allows the world to destroy everything she built for him. He allows her to be ravaged and her only child to be torn in pieces. As she lay dying, she confesses there is still love for him in her beating heart, so he rips it out of her as a trophy. A narcissist only craves love, adoration, and praise they have nothing to give back.

This movie was a modern day Rosemary's baby, that I throughly enjoyed. It made me very emotional with some of the characters. Wow, I was yelling at the people in this movie.

Everyone misunderstanding the two references of Jane Ayre and The Wide Sargosso Sea, I'll summarize their connection and why Jennifer is correct in the premise of men draining the strength of women:
Jane Ayre tells a story told by Mr. Rutherford about his "crazy" first wife Bertha, how he never loved her and why he was justified to lock her in a tower for ten years.
The Wide Sargosso Sea tells the story through Bertha's, actually Antoinette, perspective that she was just like Jane but more fierce and less stable, and Mr. Rutherford indeed did squelch her spirit, tame the shrew with force, until she went mad.
Jane Ayre doesn't tell this whole story but Wide Sargosso Sea does and they're connected.

I think it's funny that she said that the movie is feminist because as somebody who often finds myself on the opposite side of modern feminism, I very quickly realized how profoundly feminist this movie really is. Not in a pandering way but in an unflinchingly honest way.
I learned a lot from this movie.
It is showing feminism(as in what it means to be a female) in its purest form and how it is manipulated and taken advantage of Ed in many ways shows why modern feminism is bastardized as it has become in some respects was completely necessary and inevitable due to men's arrogance and apathy. At the same time it also shows how women can and will trample other women when given the chance.
This movie is profoundly deep and has genuinely changed the way I see numerous aspects of existence.
I also find it very disturbing and how the director who is the one who created this groundbreaking vision is doing the same thing to Jennifer Lawrence the husband did to her in the movie in this interview. I guess saying something about life imitating art would be fitting.
