Great video, I went there last year for a scientific research trip for a senior marine science class. I spent one night there and I think I might be able to give a little bit of advice for people who would like to visit!
    1. Ornithophobia: if you are afraid of birds, or can not cope with large amounts of birds, specifically: the Common Noddy, the White Capped Noddy, Shearwaters, Frigatebirds, Rails, and Tropicbirds just to name a few more of the common ones you see on the island regularly for breeding and nesting season, I would not recommend visiting. Unfortunately, the more common birds on the island such as the Noddy, at certain sites, they are known to breed all throughout the year, but peak seasons for breeding occur in Spring and other times in Autumn. So if you are going there, Summer and Winter would be the better times of the year to visit.
    2. Sleeping, when I stayed on the island for the night I stayed in the eco-cabin, which for a school trip for a class of 30, is the most economical choice for accommodation, but I wouldn't recommend it for people wishing to stay on the island for more than a night, or just for traveling in groups. But it is fairly cheap for sleeping and is reasonably comfortable if you can put up with bunkbed living and effectively living in a glorified 4-man tent, though it is still quite pleasant.
    3. Also, more on the sleeping accommodations, if you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs or noise-canceling devices, especially if you're going between September to April as it is breeding season for a bird called the shearwater, which produces a loud haunting cry at night, and can be quite hard to compete with when trying to fall asleep.
As you could guess from a combination of all of those birds, you can expect to see and smell a considerable amount of bird feces on the island.
Keep in mind that the electricity and water on the island are self-sufficient, so if you're the kind of person who takes 10 minute long showers... don't as you would be wasting freshwater that the island can't produce a lot of at the one time. As for electricity, all of it is generated through solar panels which also doesn't produce as much power as some would think to live up to the demands of an entire resort for people that use an abusive amount of electricity and water.
Remember that the island is a 'green-zone' by the Queensland Government which is the highest level of government protection that a marine environment can receive without being made completely inaccessible to those without a scientific permit (a "pink zone"). So please treat the reef and policies regarding the island seriously to keep the island safe.
It is a lovely place and it is an enjoyable experience for everyone coming to the island from student researchers to people on vacation. I would highly recommend it.

You could try the smaller airport from Redcliffe, north of Brisbane to fly to Lady Elliott Island. 😊

Hey Vicky, that was a reef shark, they're harmless, they're not interested in humans :) I used a GoPro to film this :)

If you want to avoid shark attacks do not go in the water where sharks are at dawn and dusk, as the visibility is low then and the sharks could mistake you for something they are looking to eat. The same thing with murky water. If it is beautiful, clear conditions though, the shark will recognise that you are a human and not yummy

Hi thanks for the vlog 😊 I'm trying to decide on the best place to do snorkeling in the great barrier reef. And how was the snorkeling?was it difficult? It looks like you don't need to go deep under the water?

My pleasure 😇 No you don’t have to go very deep at all at Lady Elliot Island. This is the southern most tip of the Great Barrier Reef. You can see a lot more further north from Cairns.
