    F-Zero GX's music is interesting because it goes for more of an electronic/techno feel than the rock/metal music of the F-Zero games to come before it.

    2200km/ is 1367.017 miles per hour in "freedom units". It's also just a little over the speed of a F-16 Fighter Jet, and these man men are racing on deadly raceways and smacking into each other at that speed. Truly an unhinged bloodsport.

    GX/AX (Arcade version) is one of my favorite racing games of all time. F-zero is really the best at capturing the feeling of speed, even at the bonkers advertised numbers. The music helps, but the stages fly by at such insane pace that it really sells the movement.
    Edit - made this comment before I saw you did the SNES version, INSTANT nostalgia, holy crap hahaha. SNES F-Zero is a GOATed soundtrack. I do hope we see more of it on the channel.

    • @Thornbloom

      The reason why F-Zero FEELS fast is mostly down to the size of the tracks. It's a design philosophy that was there from the beginning. F-Zero courses have always been pretty narrow. Having the bumpers on the warning track whipping past you makes even 400km/h feel like you're blazing along.

  • @SirSlush_

    F-Zero music is truly special, these songs have stood the test of time across multiple console generations and creating a massive amount of covers on RUclips from various artists. Mute City especially is the one that everyone knows and some of the other versions of the song out there are absolutely incredible. F-Zero X, Melee, the OTHER version in GX which is a little closer to the original and the guitar arrange album version from F-Zero X to name a few.
    F-Zero can be described like this. Cars go entirely too fast on winding tracks, one wrong move and you're either dead or you drop 20 places. Each stage has its own theme song, so you'll see song titles like Mute City, Big Blue, Fire Field, White Land, Port Town etc, these are referring to the track you're racing on. Hope you get to hear some more in the future!

    I regret not requesting the version with the final version of the song, ah well.
    So its crazy how well you can tell a vibe of the game, to answer a few questions.
    1. F-Zero GX was released for the gamecube but there was an arcade version called F-Zero AX. I actually got to play it once and even had a memory card to unlock extra parts and racers for the GX version, it also had a moving seat and it was crazy.
    2. Wanna know what else is crazy? This version was made by Sega. That feel you had of this being sega was spot on. Sega stopped with dreamcast stuff at this point and went full 3rd party and they were honestly killing it on the gamecube with how good most of their games were.

    • @bug-deal

      Sega was also killing it on Xbox actually. Jet Set Radio Future, Gun Valkyrie, Crazy Taxi 3, Otogi (well FromSoft actually but Sega published this and it's Xbox exclusive), Outrun 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta and a few more and some ports. The Xbox was often referred to as a Dreamcast 2 for good reason.

    • @AREAlhero
      @AREAlhero 6 месяцев назад +2

      Not just was this made by Sega, but specifically it was the Amusement Vision studio within Sega. You may recognize them as the developers of the Super Monkey Ball series, but if you don't recognize them under that name you may recognize them under their new studio name: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Yes, this game was developed by the Like a Dragon team. It was produced by both Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo and Toshihiro Nagoshi (the former studio head at Ryu Ga Gotoku and director of most Yakuza games). F-Zero GX is a legendary game in the industry for being the biggest collaboration between former rivals Nintendo and Sega, and the resulting product is exceptional.

  • @porgy29

    Aeropolis is both one of my favorite music tracks in the game and also probably my favorite course (the first one mainly, although Dragon Slopes is also great). Still to this day the course is ingrained in my mind, all the drifts and places to boost, and the music actually part of how I synced in. Unfortunately this version cut off the transition on the final lap when you are hit with this big victorious swell as you are finishing the final track of the cup, which just felt great.

  • @SynysterFiction
    @SynysterFiction 6 месяцев назад +24

    So with Mute City for the GX reaction, when you reach the 3rd lap of the race the music changes. This applies to all the stages. For Aeropolis though the version you listened to didn't have the lap 3 change.

    • @dffagundo

      And all racing songs are programmed to change to the final stretch always on rhythm and without breaking the flow.
      If you cross the finish line at the exact moment the beat goes on, it still will change. Amazing attention to detail.
      Not expecting less from the team that would then be RGG Studio.

      All those had rock solid 60 fps, even if Daytona 2001's controls weren't as good as the original.
      If you check both Monkey Ball games on the Cube you can see the same-ish particle systems and graphical effects, as F-Zero ran on that engine.
      Side note: Banana Mania, which was a remaster of both Monkey Ball 1 and 2 runs on Unity, and it's visually downgraded. Physics also took a massive hit in comparison to the originals.

    F Zero was a great part of my childhood - I remember playing the original on my cousin's SNES and loving the music (especially Mute City and Big Blue). I remember GX absolutely blowing me away when it came out on Gamecube, especially hearing the new versions of classic tunes.
    As others have pointed out, GX had an arcade equivalent called F Zero AX which allowed you to plug in your Gamecube memory card with a GX save on it and use the vehicles you'd unlocked/upgraded - it was awesome!
    Glad you listened to the original Mute City as well, as that was a proper hit to the childhood!

    I was never into racing games, but a friend of mine had the original F-Zero on SNES, and the Mute City song really got me into the game. To this day, that's the one song I think of whenever F-Zero is mentioned. It's a really simple tune, but it makes you feel like you're completely unstoppable.

    "Late 90s Namco." Good ear, maybe. F-Zero GX was created primarily by Sega and Nintendo, but Namco was also involved somehow. All three companies worked together to create the "Triforce" arcade board/platform. I'm not sure who composed what, though. The game has a lot of music. In fact, every one of the 40 racers has their own short song.
    As for the music, they have a faster version of the song that kicks in on the last lap. I don't think you heard that with the Aeropolis track.
    F-Zero GX is absolutely amazing, though. I actually did play the original F-Zero on SNES at someone else's house, and I was infatuated with an article about it on Nintendo Power. I remember Hot Wheels came out with a like of products called "Streex" that seemed inspired by F-Zero. F-Zero was pretty big when it came out.

    - "Emperor Breath", from story mode.
    - "Phoenix", a character theme. (Daiki Kasho composed the character themes, IIRC).
    - "Wings For My Way", the title screen.
    - "As You Choose '3rd'", the main menu.
    - "One Ahead System", Cosmo Terminal course.
    - "Hurrah for the Champion", the grand prix results.

    The original F-Zero was a launch title for the SNES (along with Super Mario World and Pilotwings) so a lot of early adopters of the SNES played it. Mute City and Big Blue are the two most popular tracks from the series and appear in almost every entry, plus Smash and even Mario Kart 8.

  • @laggalot1012
    @laggalot1012 6 месяцев назад

    Almost every F-Zero has a racing track named "Mute City" as its first track. (There's often multiple tracks sharing a name, even in the same game, but they're supposed to be different sections of the same locale in-universe.) And the ~25 seconds following 11:25 is a constant in every instance of Mute City throughout the series. It's iconic, to say the least. Also, from 13:22 is what plays on the last lap of Mute City tracks in this game!
    Personally, though, my first exposure to Mute City (and F-Zero in general) was Super Smash Bros. Melee, also on the Gamecube. I think that's how it went for a lot of people. It's a common joke that Captain Falcon, the F-Zero protagonist, is actually a Smash Bros.-original character, and he's arguably more famous for his special attack, the "Falcon Punch" in that game than he is for anything in his actual franchise of origin. F-Zero's situation is a bit lamentable. Hasn't had a game in ages, until F-Zero 99 on Switch happened as a free sort of novelty release for NSO subscribers.
    But anyway, I concur with what you surmised, the music in this game backs up the speed and feel of F-Zero excellently when you play it. Really pumps you up!

    F-Zero has a really strong identity, I think. It's much more like comic books or pro wrestling than pretty much any other racer out there. If pro wrestling was so hardcore that an injury forced one guy to have his brain put in a robot so he could keep going for the belt. Or so hardcore that a racer from the predecessor death race 200 years before the F-Zero championship was revived via necromancy so he could compete once more. Or so hardcore that Captain Falcon beats a clone of himself, then a mass murderer, then a cyborg from Hell, then God in a race, and then he walks away talking shit about none of them standing a chance in the first place.
    That type of crazy hardcore glory-seeking is what defines F-Zero over other racers, and I think it's reflected well in the music. "For the Glory".
    It helps that mechanically your boost is also your HP, so the faster you go the fewer mistakes you can make before exploding. You have to burn bright and seek glory yourself to win the races. Or perish.

    Mario Kart is a very theme driven series in regards to its OST. If you're in an ice stage, you'll hear snowy music. If you're in a city, you'll hear "downtown" music. If you're surrounded by mushrooms, you'll hear "mushroom" music.
    It's kind of hard to narrow down just one song for you to listen to to get an idea of what Mario Kart sounds like. I did a search on the channel and it doesn't seem that you've listened to any original MK music yet (Big Blue from F-Zero doesn't count)
    Like, maybe one of the Rainbow Roads? Many of them are iconic in their own ways.
    I guess there's Coconut Mall, if you somehow managed to avoid that song on the internet. But that one's just incredibly memorable.
    As far as other racing games go, I don't know if it really counts as a racing game, but the hot wheels game Stunt Track Driver has an incredible OST that's too good for its own good. It's incredibly niche, a Windows 95 PC game, but it's a game I really enjoyed as a kid. I'd be surprised if anyone requested anything from the game given how few people know about it.

    Even though I played the original F-Zero game when it came out, I didn't really appreciate the soundtrack until I heard the remixes from Super Smash Bros. Melee and F-Zero X. Just last year, Nintendo released F-Zero 99, a battle royale remake of the original F-Zero, complete with the original soundtrack, introducing a new generation of players to the music. "For The Glory" is my second favourite version of Mute City, my most favourite would have to be the one in F-Zero X.
    As for the feeling of "blowing through a downtown" heard in the Mute City tracks, you're kind of on the right track (pun intended). Mute City is known as the "Metropolis in the Heart of the Space Federation" with a population of over a billion. In one game, it's said that it is the successor to New York City in the F-Zero universe. The race tracks are suspended high in the sky, which offer breathtaking views of the city below.
