Great vid from a Carlisle fan funny to see there reaction to the goals should come back next season definitely if paul simpson stays cause the atmosphere will be great
Good one, Sam, great wee stadium. You mentioned pitch conditions on the Dundee vlog, and, it’s a fair point. The disparity between English and Scottish football is massive in financial terms. Even back in the 80s, crowds were significantly higher. The product is perennially undersold by the Scottish football authorities, and, outside a handful of clubs, it’s a real struggle. The entire system needs an overhaul in my opinion.
I do find interesting how the significance of matches now thought of derbies has totally changed in the time I've been watching football, just because two teams sit within the same county (and in this case a modern county that didn't even exist when Barrow last played in the Football League) they are now thought of as rivals even if it practice they're nowhere near each other. The concept of "county derbies" wasn't really a thing when I started watching football, my team's biggest rivals came from over the border and were far more relevant than teams that were further away but came under the same County Council. Both teams nearest EFL neighbour is Morecambe and then beyond that Barrow's nearest EFL clubs are Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn and (via shortest route) Accrington, then Carlisle. Carlisle are also closer to Newcastle and Sunderland than Barrow. It took a very long time for Barrow AFC to ever consider themselves Cumbrian; they were still giving their address as Lancashire when I went there in the late 1990s. They are still members of the Lancashire FA even now. I have a Lancashire Soccer Annual from 1970 (it was my grandma's she was a Preston supporter) and Barrow feature in it. A certain sense of rivalry usually does form between the two biggest clubs in a county even if not the nearest neighbours; if someone hadn't decided to invent Cumbria in the 1970s I wonder how this game would be thought of. No doubt there would be a measure of interest as they're relatively near neighbours in the context of their overall remoteness, but not really a derby in the way I grew up thinking of it.
Barrows rival/derby is Morecambe & seeing as Carlisle is a goal kick away from being Scottish, They are nothing much to us except they try very very hard to create a rivalry 🤦♂️
Intended to do Barrow for an evening game last season when staying in Preston. Unfortunately had to abort it as last train back was about 10 minutes after expected finish.

Or even better - the Highland League Cup final on Sat 9th April at Station Park, Nairn. Buckie Thistle v Brora Rangers. Should be some match if the league match last week between Buckie and Brora is anything to go by. One of the best goals you will see anywhere all season was scored by Buckie.
You should try and get up for one of the Highland League midweek matches next week, either Forres Mechanics v Buckie Thistle, or Strathspey Thistle v Fraserburgh. Both of those matches could be crucial to deciding where the title goes this season.
I remember when Carlisle were top of the old first division in 1974. They got promoted with Luton and Jack Charlton's Middlesbrough but were relegated after just one season. There was a bit of a rivalry between Carlisle and Boro in those days but that's long gone.
