100% agree that this is all an investment with one of the best returns around. I would always say yes to investing in your garden. Great video as always.
I have some bad news for you, Alex; the easily distracted thing gets worse as you get older. I have an office in my basement, and our kitchen is up the stairs, BUT across the hall is the cursed laundry room, and down the hall another 8 steps in a bathroom. So I am out of coffee, and I leave my desk to go and fill my cup in the kitchen. As I approach the stairs, I can hear that the clothes drier has stopped running, so I grab the clothes out of the dryer and toss them on top, ready to be folded. I move the clothes from the washing machine into the dryer, and then I should be ready to get coffee. So I climbed the stairs to the kitchen and set my cup on the counter. My bladder reminded me it needed to be emptied an hour ago, so I headed to the bathroom. On my way back to the kitchen to get coffee, I notice that the postman has come, so I retrieve the mail and a small package, and I should be ready to grab my coffee and head back to my office. But I decided to open the package and its parts for my microwave. I sort the remainder of the mail into junk and keep piles, toss the junk into the recycle been and notice that it needs to be emptied. Off I go to dump the recycle bin, and after that, I can get my coffee and go back to my office; I come back into the house, grab the keep pile of mail, and head back to my desk. I sit down and reach for my coffee, but it's not there. I forgot it. In the meantime, 45 minutes have elapsed since I began my journey to have some coffee. Please keep doing what you're doing. Your videos help with my chaotic life and more bees, please.
Im a 25 year old guy from the otherside of the world, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for you for doing the things that you love and being so curious. Good on you Alex, hello from Australia
If you'd like a tip to keep the birds from eating a lot of your strawberries: paint some small stones to look like ripe strawberries and lay them in with the plants a little while before the real strawberries begin ripening. That way, the birds will peck at the stones first and basically think "oh these plants have really inedible strawberries", and leave them mostly alone once the actual strawberries grow in. Really love you sharing your gardening and beekeeping journeys with us, keep it up!
@@7sargun I tried it last year, it did work to a certain degree (I found several of the red stones had been moved out of the planters), but some berries were still pecked (should have added a water bowl for the birds, that is supposedly one of the main reason why they peck a tomatoes at least)
if you have a proper coffee drinker in the house, the coffee grinds are fantastic for Blueberry plants as they make the soil acidic, as well as fending off slugs cause of the abrasive grinds.
Alex, you need 2 blueberry plants of different varieties that flower at the same time to get fruit so they can cross pollinate because if you only have 1 you get alot less blueberries , Great video 🎉🎉 Also water them with rain water only ! Tap water is alkali
@@Moonlight_creations2 iirc, you can just leave tap water out for a week or so and it should be fine. So fill some watering cans with water and just keep them somewhere where the water won't evaporate as quickly.

You have one of the most interesting and relaxing channels out there. Really enjoying watching the journey of the bees, garden, and now an allotment! I'm so invested!
A year and a half ago I bought a blueberry bush that was smaller than yours. Last summer it grew massively, producing lots of new branches and it is now around a metre high. And it produced blueberries. You'll most likely have to repot that bush next spring! My bush is in a pot and one day, when I find my forever home, I hope to plant it in a garden and get a few more bushes. Blueberry bushes produce more fruit when there are other blueberry bushes around them.
I was checking the comments for this. I found out the hard way that one bush isnt enough. I figured oh, self pollinating, perfect! and barely get berries. 3 years later and I find out you should have at least 2.
Potatoes are really great to grow in planter fabric bags, it saves alot of time digging because you can just empty the bag into a wheelbarrow or on top of a garden bed
Agreed, it also lessens the pain emotionally and physically if you have a bad harvest - "at least I didn't break my back digging up grape sized potatoes! "😄
Around here, (USA) we're told blueberries need another cultivar of blueberry for pollination and to produce berries. I'm by far no expert, but it wouldn't hurt to have a second blueberry plant (of a different variety) if you can find the room for it. I adore the journey we've witnessed in your gardening different ways along with the beekeeping. Thank you for sharing these videos!
That is true but in the uk most of us live in city’s towns and villages and you can almost guarantee that one of you neighbours have one or you can buy a self fertile variety

Hi Alex, A cloth called tulle can be used to cover the plants to protect them from getting eaten by insects and animals. It comes in different colors. Enjoy all your strawberries. 😅
I'd been growing flowers a couple years before your videos, but it was you who inspired me to grow veg this year for the first time. I've got my first earlies, second earlies, sungold & supersteak tomatoes, corn, beans and pumpkins, strawberries, all growing now and will be growing onions, carrots, and more. Like you I got permission from my parents: if I feed them, I can grow anything I can pay for.
I love your gardening videos, they are very relaxing and educational. Gardening is so much fun and there is so much to learn. Hello from a 10 year novice on the east coast of Canada! 🇨🇦
I recommend you to read more about blueberry growing, the compost is good for 3 months or so but because you water the plant all the time the aciditi washes from the soil not like sweden, because in sweden they have alot of rain all year round so there soil stays acidic. In different from sweden, you need to acidify your soil 3 times a year, iam doing it in march june and september so i reccomend you to do it too... good luck in the garden alex !!!
Blueberry’s are a pain they need constant acidification. Raspberry’s are way easier and the yellow rasps are way better then any blue berry. Added bonus they flower almost whole summer
love your videos Alex. I am a gardener myself as i have been doing it for about 2 years now and their truly isn't anything more rewarding than growing your own food!
Hi Alex, When Plant matter rots away, the process always makes the Compost acidic. In the special Compost bags you can buy they most likely neutralize it again by adding calcium. Using Wood Ash is a nice way to DIY that
Hi! I’ve noticed your slug and snail problem. A simple, inexpensive solution is to sprinkle crumbled eggshells around your plants. This method works best on the ground. If the plants are in pots, they sometimes climb the rim and may eat protruding leaves but will spare the stem. Snails and slugs can’t cross eggshells as it’s painful for them when the jagged edges poke them. The eggshells will soon deteriorate and fertilize your garden while repeling the slugs and snails, and you can just sprinkle more on top of the soil when the eggshells break down.
I recently got a 60 sqm allotment patch near my place. It’s been a lot of work since it’s overgrown with weeds but the first things are growing now. I’m so proud of it and it’s so much fun. I also grow veggies on my balcony.

For your strawberries, once they’ve flowered and the start of a strawberry is there get some little organza drawstring bags and pop the flower/strawberry in the bag and pull the drawstrings. That’ll stop most bugs and birds getting to your strawberries while allowing them to still grow! Worked a treat for me last year

7:50 - 8:00 is a great lesson. Embrace the distraction and just do things as u r feeling it because chances r you'll get more done
Nice to see your growing updates, we planted some cherry tomato, plum tomato, basil, lettuce in the greenhouse over the Easter holiday, also some chilli seeds indoors. Looking forward to seeing how your planting goes.
I have really enjoyed watching your gardening videos. It is really fun to watch a passionate gardener be born!
So excited to watch this upload!!!
How cool will that be, to come back to the planting site and seeing the trees you helped plant grow into an orchard! You'll get to pick fruit from your very own work while working on your plot.
Alex i could listen to you all day! You crack me up!! Looking forward to your next update.
Hey Alex, just wanted to say your videos always put a smile on my face! , cant wait for the next video! Keep up the amazing work!
very nice and interesting! also about acidity in soil, my mom uses compost for acidity and ashes to reduce the acidity for plants that want less of it. i think i remember onions want reduced acidity, its realy simple once you find out what needs what. love your videos, keep it up!
Really looking forward to seeing more of the allotment and also the progress you are making with your garden. Really enjoying these laid back gardening videos Alex.
Love your videos mate! Largely thanks to your videos I have started growing some stuff in my little garden too. Some went fantastic, some disastrous but it was fun nevertheless! Lets see what this year will bring, shall we? Greetings from Mexico!

I was confsed at first when you started talking about allotments. As an American I had never heard of these, but the idea is really cool! Thank you for all of your videos. It always makes me laugh when you say certain words differently. Rooting for you! (get it?)
always enjoy the update and love the new uploads. PLEASE keep doing what your doing as it gives myself and im sure plenty others motivation to do the same!
Love the shades of thyme pot!
Chive flowers are delicious in a salad. Chives don't flower until the second year. I planted mine last year and hope they'll flower in the summer. Good luck with yours Alex :)
You should be able too plant sweet pea 's in your bedroom window and have the string for them to grow up that's what I do in Arizona 🇺🇸 because it's really to hot out side to grow them. Was so excited for this new video.❣️
For your strawberries, once they’ve flowered and the start of a strawberry is there get some little organza drawstring bags and pop the flower/strawberry in the bag and pull the drawstrings. That’ll stop most bugs and birds getting to your strawberries while allowing them to still grow! Worked a treat for me last year
I’m growing corn 🌽 for the first time this year. I can’t believe I’ve never tried to grow it before. I’ve been gardening for years, but it’s always good to try something new.
Love your enthusiasm.. Planting seeds here as well now , growing is a great hobby and i also started with 3 years ago when i bought a tiny farm in Vesterålen Northern Norway. my cucumbers sprouted 4 cm . and chocolate habanero getting fruit now because indoor light. no need for expensive grow light but some cheap strong normal led bulbs with ++5000K ish and popp off the plastic light cap on them ,not getting so warm then and last a long time .. worked great for 3 years
Hope your settling in well mate, Bristol is a great city…. I’m just over the bridge. Let me know if you fancy a crayfishing sesion (catch cook)
This video inspired me to turn some of my backyard into a garden
Thanks Alex this was beautiful, the man at the end gave me hope also what a great system with the allotments
