I adore the use of incense notes in fragrance.
I am drawn to vanilla, woody, creamy, incense, spicy notes above all. I find them, at once, alluring and comforting.
I enjoy a loud projector, as I am a Leo.
However, the best thing about wearing a fragrance for me is being able to smell it and enjoy it on myself, for myself.
That is what intrigues me about Vanagloria.

Thank you for the excellent review. I esp liked how excited you were that Vanagloria is not the usual vanilla and you described it as something of an uncommon combo of vanilla and incense. I absolutely love incense and I have some incense perfumes, and I also love vanilla. Most of the vanillas I love are woody and spicy, and I think I would truly enjoy an incense and vanilla perfume, and I don't have one that would be similar to how you described Vanagloria. What I liked about the review: the classic Sebastian diplomacy was on display; not that I anticipated anything negative, some reviewers are quick to pan a fragrance to stand out, which isn’t often a good characteristic.
Why I want to win this sample: selfishly, the mandarin scent!
What would I do if I purchased a bottle: wait until the temps get cooler and wear it; too humid and warm for heavy fragrances in New Orleans

I love how informative you are in every videos. Vanilla is my all time favorite, and incense is something I like but hesitate to wear. This combination might be a great opportunity for me to own an incense fragrance. I'm from TX and would love to win this.
Growing up catholic in nyc, i have definitely been around incense on a weekly basis. Its definitely a calming and relaxing smell to me. Would be interesting to see what effect a vanilla note will add to the experience. I've never heard of this brand before since im new to the fragrance world. It's been fun to discover new scents especially the ones that are a bit more rare. Great reviews!

I really liked that you put a spotlight on the perfumer, Dominic Ropion. He's one of the great talents, even the perfumes he's made that I don't wear personally are magnificent. I'm always looking for perfume books, thank you for the recommendationn! I didn't realize that Tigerlily has an online store, so I will be looking into that and also Nez.
I've never tried the house of Laboratorio Olfattivo, so a sample kit would be a fun way to take an olfactory tour. I would be interested in Vanagloria, because I find the pairing of vanilla and incense to be beautiful. I own Lalique Le Parfum, which is an herbal vanilla creation by Ropion, and I'm also a fan of another one, Happy Spirit by Chopard which doesn't list an incense note but comes off incensey on my skin.
Other vanilla incenses I've been unhappy with, I didn't like the addition of an Ambroxan-like note in Atelier's Vanille Insensee. However, I feel like done right, the combination could be sublime.

I want it!!! I want the book too. All the perfumers are my favorite...but since i love Vetiver Extraordinare and have it on today, he’s one of my favorite favorites! His Frederic Malle compositions are so so good.

I'd like to read that book about Dominique Ropion. Carnal Flower is one of my favorite perfumes and I'm sure I like some of his other creations. A incense vanilla is right up my alley! Would love to sample Vanagloria!

It sounds like it would be a great vanilla scent. You got to be in my top three fragrance you tubers. I would probably get the scent you are talking about if I was to buy one. Favorite part of the video was about the book. Keep it up your great.
The book is amazingly interesting , your video as always excellent, Vanagloria a worthy purchase and I do already own Bois d'orange. My latest acquisitions are ( because of the book) are Arabian Oud Madaawi and luxury Gardenia the latter pricey and difficult to find. I am also fortunate enough to have the discontinued Jaeger London, who could not admire this amazing creator. Dominique is indeed a genius and I would be so proud to have entire collection, unfortunately I have to go home and gather the ones I left in London which has not been possible due to state of the world.
I love dark vanillas in general and am in the Bay Area so I might have to visit SF to go to Tiger Lily. I love this review because there is not enough coverage of this house on RUclips. If only Tiger Lily were open during the week! I'd go today.

The mention of “incensy” ... got me with the vanilla. Madagascar vanilla at that as I read on Tiger Lily website. Hate to say this but as a child when I went to Catholic funerals ...I looked so forward to the processional of priests as they fanned their incense.

I bought a bottle of it after having used up a decant sample. It's very very good, smokey, leathery, prickly, fruity and mostly vanillary.

I had read about Mandarine and when I looked up the brand saw this one and was very interested. Id love to sample it as I love vanilla especially and usually saffron as well I don't have as much with incense but what I do have I enjoy. When I had looked it didn't include Mandarine or Vanagloria in the Masters discovery set but the fact that they're sending it as well is awesome. Hello from Michigan! I've never heard of this brand, but I have heard of Tigerlilly before. I mist frankincense w/myrrh in the summer months & that combination alone has gotten me the most compliments than any other perfume I've ever purchased. I absolutely love saffron & incense...to me it sometimes gives an impression of oud (depending on the strength), but saffron frankincense & vanilla sounds out of this world! I'm impatiently waiting on my Mancera Velvet Vanilla to arrive - I have their Vanille Exclusif, Roses Vanille & Pearl which to me smells similar to Roses. I'm obsessed with vanilla, but can't seem to find anything intriguing out there; so this vid is right on time!
Btw...Ropion has one helluva resume.

They have put out some really remarkable fragrances lately with incense, vanilla and tonka. All worth a try if you like that direction.

How does this compare to babycat?
Please tell me it's not smelling like Jean Paul Gaultier's 'Le male'! I love vanilla essence but I'm extremely cautious in buying these kind of perfumes because they all have a very strong smell which have nothing to do with vanilla!
Not sure what to make of Vanagloria. My daughter says she can pick up vanilla. I get barely a hint of it until very late into the dry-down. On my skin Vanagloria smells like I've taken a bath in very peaty single-malt scotch. I like it, but was wholly unprepared for the experience. Rather than reminding me of Babycat, I would say it calls to mind Xerjoff's LUXOR minus the cinnamon accord. Very, very smokey i would describe it as a predominantly birch tar scent. I love the dry vanilla of Babycat, but was hoping to find something similar for a more reasonable price. This does not appear to be it. Paris Corner's RIFAAQAT is the closest thing I've smelled to Babycat, and it's a comparative bargain, but the performance leaves something to be desired. I'd be thrilled if Paris Corner would double or triple the price of Rifaaqat, and beef-up the performance. Even then, it would still be less than half the price those robbers at L'Orreal are charging for Babycat.

I get that they're very different, but to me Eau Duelle EDP comes across as heavily church insense with vanilla, more so than any of its other notes on my skin.

My theory is the weird handling of Babycat by YSL has to do with some legal dispute with Laboratorio Olfattivo because the two fragrances are too similar. I'm probably spreading rumours 😀

I need your help here. YSL Babycat has been discontinued. I love it for its deep resinous vanilla and new rubber tyres 'vibe' I get from suede. Insence can be too much for me, but it is more prominent on skin than on clothes.
Does vangaloria have the same type of vanilla as Babycat?
Is insence stronger than in Babycat, or less noticeable?
Does it have this 'new tyres' smell by any chance?

Who is spreading the rumor that Babycat is discontinued? So many people have messaged me asking me that if I heard it was discontinued. It's not discontinued. It's only discontinued in CANADA. It's selling like hotcakes in EU and UK. UK YSL associates confirmed with me it's not discontinued they would never discontinue it because it's so popular.
But Vanagloria and Babycat are quite similar and created by the same perfumer. I would suggest you get samples of both and compare side by side to see which is best to you. But overall to me it's a vanilla, incense combo with leather or suede leather and yes a bit like rubber or vinyl touch there.

It is out of stock everywhere in the UK, in the Netherlands you can only find online Bijenkorf sells 125ml for €297, all other places no more stock. I've seen several emails from people who contacted YSL directly and their response was 'discontinued'. A little too soon to discontinue a fragrance which was released not even a year ago, I'm puzzled. Even eBay in the UK had big bottle sales for £350 with the title 'discontinued'. Who knows! Rumours or not, YSL should change their attitude in gatekeeping their private line, because to be fair it is ridiculous, Bijenkorf had testers, but they never have stock, they need to go through the ordering process.
I was told by the UK YSL Associates it's so so popular it's sold out at most places but they assured me it's not discontinued. I spoke to YSL Associates at Selfridges and Harrods.
@@ThePerfumeGuy I contacted YSL directly asking just to confirm if it's discontinued, or not, because rumours are it is. Got their email response today, which is quite vague: 'we were unable to confirm the availability of this product. Unfortunately, we currently do not have any information regarding the replenishment of out-of-stock products'
They didn't confirm anything with their response, nor gave hopes. Strange.
